As a result their complaint is that labor costs are higher than those of their competitors. The negotiation between the Saudi government and the pirates also hinges on money. The difference is the pirates can coerce the owners by threatening to kill the 25 hostages or blowing up the supertanker. The similarity between the two negotiations is money. The union is trying to coerce the airline to part with money and the pirates are trying to coerce the Saudi government to part with money. In both cases the position taken by one of the negotiation party is pay or else. For American Airline the threat is that the union may go on strike. To their advantage federal law makes it hard for airline workers to strike. They can walk off the job only if the National Mediation Board declares negotiations deadlocked and one side refuses binding arbitration. Even the, the president can block any strike. On the other hand the pirates have the upper hand. Not only do they have $110 million in crude they also have 25 crew members’ lives at stake. The pirates can literally coerce the owners to pay a large ransom for the safe return of their crew and cargo. As the human resources manager for a surgical hospital the integrative bargaining strategy is used when negotiating salaries of all employees. Gina Blair and Daniel Trent cooperate and collaborate to achieve a common objective throughout their negotiation. A cooperative negotiation style is demonstrated as they combine their points of view regarding their clients concerns with outcomes to effectively solve the issues raised. The main focus of the negotiation is to reach an agreement rather than a continuous dispute. Accordingly, the conflicting objectives were resolved by compromises and solutions but forward by both Gina and Daniel. The negotiation style used between Gina and Daniel is described as principled negotiation where both parties jointly attack the problems arising to achieve a compromise.
This paper presents my reflections on the Negotiations: Strategy and practice coursework in the MBA program at Said Business School, University of Oxford. My paper will present various reflections on different themes of negotiation simulation undertaken by me during the course. This course has allowed investigating and reflecting on key drivers of negotiation techniques for me. I have learned that transparency and coalition are the core tenet of negotiation for me. For the purpose of this reflective exercise, I will conduct a comparative analysis of the process, dynamics and outcomes based on the themes such as negotiation styles, bargaining zones, power, emotion, coalitions, value claiming vs value creation etc. for the below-mentioned simulations:

During our negotiation with D.G. Barnhouse (DGB), we intend to utilize an integrative bargaining strategy with management. Before coming to this conclusion, we weighed the advantages and disadvantages of a distributive approach, however, we eventually decided to take an integrative and predominantly interest based stance versus a position based stance in our negotiations after assessing internal and external environmental factors. In addition, we settled on this strategy because we ultimately believe that management and the union share at the very least, one fundamental common interest, which is the firm’s financial stability. That being said, even with our plans to use integrative bargaining, we still plan to negotiate assertively to achieve
In 2015, it showed in the record that the number of employees American Airline has was 110,300 employees within different departments such as flight attendants, and ground workers and pilots. With this huge number of workers, they need a representative to make their rights will be claimed. That why American Airline has a voice with a different labor unions such as Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA), Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), Transport Workers Union-International Association of Machinists alliance (TWU-IAM) and Allied Pilot Association (APA). Looking at the parties involved in the negotiation, it was clear that each party would have agendas that would be in conflict with each other. For instance, the other ports in the region would like the highest compensation possible while Harborco would like the lowest compensation. Additionally, each party would also have a minimum threshold score that they would need from each outcome before they would support the project. Therefore, it is clear that this is an integrative negotiation which requires joint problem solving to achieve
When the pirates climb aboard, the crew cannot shoot due to an international agreement. Usually, if the ransom is paid the pirates will leave. The ransoms vary on the size of the ship and number of passengers, they are usually around $1 million. The pirates try not to cause violence and only want money, the people on-board rarely try to stand up to the pirates due to the risk of danger. The Somali pirates rarely kill or injure people and usually keep them in good health, the people are worth more than the money. Only one captain has died due to natural causes. People are beginning to fight back and it usually works if they don’t

Give a brief summary of the current state of union relations in the airlines industry in the United States. Then answer the following in a well-organized 4- to 5-page paper: There are several different airlines that operate in the United States and the unions that represent the employees of these airlines seem to always be in the spotlight. There are several articles describing the affects these unions have on the employees, the employers, and the economy overall. I will discuss the current state of union relations in the airline industry. Additionally, I will give an update where we are currently with American’s situation and how the recent updates I’ve found affect American Airlines employees. Finally, I will give my opinion of the changes I believe are needed in labor laws in the United States to help stop unions from hurting business.

I played the role of L. Rigley, who was a representative of the International Union, New York., and was heading this negotiation process from the International Union side. The other two members were A. Jones (representative of the International

In December, the majority of British Airways employees decided on strike actions for 12 days, during Christmas time. It was a critical date, because

To do so you may need to do some of the following:
1. With what aspects of your preparation were you particularly pleased? Why? How might you have been better prepared?
