So we can manage shared files with the help of Network File System in our network. NFS Version 4.2 extends and improves some of the features which were not included in earlier versions. For example server side copy, space reservations and application data blocks. So NFSv4.2 provides protocol extensions in previous versions. NFSv4.2 focuses more on security aspect by introducing Firewalls and Access Control Lists (ACL). NETWORK FILE SYSTEM VERSION 4.2 5
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
Network File System is a Distributed File System protocol developed by Sun Microsystems in 1984. It allows a user on a client computer to access files over a computer network much like local storage space. Network File System builds on Open Network Computing Remote Procedure Call (ONC RPC) system.
Network File System is used to provide access of remotely located files across a network. So with the help of Network File System we can see and access remotely
Once one of the computers is properly configured as a file server, users can access the storage by mapping the drives on the respective computers. The file server will be mapped as a drive and users can store, edit and access files directly from the shared storage disk. The disk will be connected to each computer. For example, when a user needs to access any file from the file server, he/she can access the drive that will now be mapped on the every computer (Science - Opposing Views, 2014).
1)A network is when two or more computers are connected together and are able to share data and communication.
An operating system must support a wide variety of networking protocols in order to meet the needs of its users. The user will be able to identify and make sure that various systems and servers are running smoothly, also the user is will if the system is loaded or
The customer required that each workstation have at least 256 GB to 500 GB of local storage. They also wanted a file server on the network to protect data in case a workstation went down. This server will be networked into allow file sharing between devices and have available 40 GB to start. These network upgrades, the greater use of applications, and file sharing will require more protection; a new firewall programmed to filter packets and analyze external requests and direct requests and traffic to the right application.
SAMBA : Samba service is necessary to share files between Linux and Windows system. Also used to configure domain controller and wins server.
This allows you to share centrally stored files to all of your connected computers easily. It also makes sharing a printer much easier than transfering everything to one computer as a gateway.
i) Disk : file server, virtual disk server, feature on interest server and so on
Files are stored at server disk. Clients do read and write operations on the network.
It is generally limited to a geographic area such as a writing lab, school, or building. Rarely are LAN computers more than a mile apart. In a typical LAN configuration, one computer is designated as the file server. It stores all of the software that controls the network, as well as the software that can be shared by the computers attached to the network. Computers connected to the file server are called workstations. The workstations can be less powerful than the file server, and they may have additional software on their hard drives. On many LANs, cables are used to connect the network interface cards in each computer; other LANs may be wireless.
One way a filing system is created is by using the computers server on the network in which employees have access to the employees will create new folders for client files, this means that every time a new company partners up with the business i.e. for a potential deal, a new folder will be made in the company’s name under client files on the networks drive for the company’s relevant documents that will be stored here. By clicking into this it gives an A-Z list of folders of all the clients the business has worked with, we can the click into the folder and store or retrieve relevant information about the company such information might include documents based on whether the company is credit checked etc, this makes it easier to locate information in the future as it has been stored specifically in a file in which we will know where to retrieve this from when the relevant documents are needed in the
Workstation: A workstation is an area accessed by a user. There are many different types of workstations, but the network workstation makes sure that they are connected to an office LAN so they can access other workstations if needed. It can be used for any job, such as gaming designer, video editing, architect ect. The network workstation allows people to share their files to any other workstation as long as they are connected on the LAN.
A - File Management is where the user is able to not only create files but they can do the following – delete files, copy and paste files, cut, move files, rename files and form folders to store these files. By doing this it means it’s significantly quicker to find previously stored files, and being able to create separate folders and manage those means that all your data can be more organised, whereas if you don’t name files/organise them, you’re at risk of losing files and wasting time trying to find them. File management is an extremely important feature because allowing you to rename your files means that you know exactly what that document is, and if the user were having to upload an assignment they would know exactly which to upload, and not only that but it means that if other people need access to specific files and they’re named correctly it means all they have to do is type in my computer the file name. Having the
The world is changing daily and many companies are looking to develop ways to save on production and hardware. The idea of having a system that allows a company to store files away from the main server will help a company to store more and
When a CPU is composed of two or more processors, each one is referred to as a(n) ________.
This is one of the crucial advantages of networking computers. Everyibe can find and share data because of networking. This is beneficial for large organizations to maintain their information in an
