We become friends with people who are very similar to us and share quite identical traits as ours but in the novel Never Let Me Go, the two good friends Kathy and Ruth are not alike. Kathy is serious, kind hearted and caring whereas Ruth is mean at times and has bossy attitude. “what you’ve got to realize is that even though Tommy was at Hailsham, he isn’t like a real Hailsham student. He was left out of everything and people were always laughing at him” (155, Ruth). This quote supports the argument because it shows how mean Ruth is by saying that about Tommy, Kathy has always felt bad about how people at Hailsham tease Tommy, so this shows us that Kathy is kind and caring, this supports the argument by showing how Kathy and Ruth are very different.
The way the world is surrounded by technology, not being able to understand technology is difficult but not “death in life”. Today, almost anything on paper is easily accessed on a laptop or smartphone. However, if you're technologically illiterate, you still have access to everything on paper, you just may have to look harder for it. In the text, Carole says “Now I can read, I can read books, anything. I can write. In English and French.” When I read that quote, I think of Carole's troubles when learning to read on paper, now she has to learn all over again on a laptop. Personally, I find it very hard to read off of a smartboard or laptop and I can only think of the struggles coming Carole's way in the 21st century. Some challenges could be,
Friendship is one of the key character traits in the novella. For instance, friendship would be Lennie and George, their friendship is what holds them together and although Lennie is not smart, George still accompanies him as a friend. Continuously as George play more tricks on Lennie he began to see how Lennie didn't care for the tricks, he knew he had a friend. Another example would be Candy and his pet. How candy has had his dog for a while describing how he had his dog since he was a puppy; and how they had herded sheep together. Even though everyone else hated the
History is events that happened in the past to impact the world. Anyone can make history, but the events of that history have no impact unless one writes the history down. The quote “Any fool can make history, but it takes a genius to write it” explains how history is truly made. The quote means that any person, no matter how uneducated they are can make history, but it takes a highly educated person to make history and make the event known. Anyone can make history because history is the events that happened. For example, one can make history by eating an apple, but that won’t be known because eating an apple isn’t a significant event to the world. When one eats an apple, it’s an event that has happened, but it isn’t a very great event to other
I believe that the theme of The Outsiders is that: “Not everybody is like what you think they are”. This is proven to be true because of these next three paragraphs show how.
Ponder this thought…. A world where jobs are assigned to people, there are no colors, there is no weather, and rules after rules after rules. It would be impossible to live in a place like this. I would not want to live in the society from The Giver. The Giver society is a tough place to live, therefore I would not want to. In this society, people don’t have the freedom of choice, they don’t have normal, everyday objects, and there is extremely strict rules. Overall, this society is not the place for me.
Sometimes, things can be rough. In this fantastic book by S.E. Hinton- The Outsiders, the story starts off with a boy named Ponyboy. WHen his brother gets mad at him, he runs away, expecting to return the next morning. That is all turned upside down when his friend Johnny kills a boy. They run away to Windrixville together. Then, on their way back, they spot a burning church and run inside and save the children trapped in the back. Johnny is seriously injured by a piece of burning wood. Throughout the next chapters, the boys are preparing for the big fight against an enemy gang, the Socs. After the fight, which they win, Pony and his buddy Dallas WInston go and see JOhnny in the hospital one last time before he died. Dallas, who is overrun
Steinbeck wrote about many different characters who are full of dreams which sadly none of their dreams came true. Everyone has a big dream that would like to accomplish one day but sometimes , when we get lonely our dreams don’t come true. Through these characters John Steinbeck shows the effects about true loneliness.
“Being right is dangerous when the government is wrong”-Voltaire. Voltaire’s quote relates directly to the novel Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. The definition of a catch-22 is a dilemma or difficult circumstance from which there is no escape because of mutually conflicting or dependent conditions, essentially, the government uses the law of catch-22 to ensure that they are always right. This quote is proven to be truthful throughout the novel as well as in more realistic and personal experiences. Through small and defiant acts Yossarian makes his opinion clear, whether the government likes it or not.
In today’s world one of the most important things is education and they way citizens’ think. One example, of a control method in both society’s is to control citizens’ consciousness and education. In the society of “Those Who Walk Away From Omelas” citizens have happy consciousness, but are educated of the child who has to suffer. Which makes citizens’ of Omelas feel bad because of the suffering the child has to experience. As stated in “Those Who Walk Away From Omelas” “The know that if the wretched one were not there sniveling in the dark, the one one, the flute-player could make no joyful music…”(3) This quote shows that the suffering that child goes through is for the benefit of the others of Omelas. In contrast to the “Brave New World”
First off, I really liked your response due to the fact that I also addressed this question, and I was able to gain a different insight from your discussion board on things I did not include in my response. For instance, the way you explained how first point of view gave strength to the overall idea of history brining pride to many Chicanos not only showed great analysis, but also supported your argument regarding the character’s strong identification with his culture. You use a quote to support your answer and further analyze the quote and speak about the effect cultural heritage and history has on the person Joaquin is.
Jefferson controls his future because it up to one to make the choices they desire but also all of your choices will affect your future. Example if you make bad choices in life you get bad results in life. When you make choices for your future you always got to analyze and make a smart decision because a bad decision could lead you into a lot of trouble just like it did to Jefferson. However sometimes you may not have control over your future because sometimes things happen that you least expect.
In the novel The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton Explores the topic: Through hardships we can learn valuable lessons that will teach us so much in life. According to Hope Solo, ¨… overcome things, learn from them and become stronger, both personally and professionally. To be honest, I welcome those hardships.¨ This quote proves that if you keep going in life , even when it gets hard, then the hardships that you once thought were not possible to overcome, will help you grow stronger as a person. The advice given, relates to the the novel The Outsiders, because throughout the book, Ponyboy goes through several hard things. Not only does he try to keep going in life , but he also learns to welcome the hardships as Solo was able to do.
In chapter one in Of Mice and Men there is a lot that goes on. “Damn hot day” (4) which represent that it must be in the summer time and it is a hot afternoon near Soledad, California, sometime during the 1930s. Nearly everyone is poor and scrambling around desperately for work, food, and money. We meet Lennie and George, which are two guys who are bacisally the poorest and scrambling for new work. George is small and smart, “You never oughta drink water when it ain’t running” (3).
The reason I chose this quote is because O’Brien reflects on his own storytelling after Bowker sends him a letter asking for a story. The letter that Bowker sends inspires O’Brien to use his own storytelling to help cope with his own experiences. This quote helps in proving that sometimes telling the truth in a story is not as important as emotional truth. The whole key of the book.
Losing something or someone that you secretly always wanted to get rid of is a lot harder than you would think. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is about two lonely men by the names of Lennie and George. These men are traveling together to their new job because of the trouble that Lennie always seems to get in. They travel together because of Lennie’s mental incapabilities. Lennie doesn’t understand and is always getting himself and George into a lot of trouble. Of Mice and Men reveals that humanity is going to be upset if they lose something important to them even if they thought they wanted it gone the entire time.
