New Colombo Plan scholarship application
Academic Achievements
I am a committed student with high personal goals. As demonstrated through my excellent university grades, I am a passionate learner and always aim to reach my full potential. I have received a congratulatory letter of excellence in seven of eight units studied at university so far. I engage in all practical and tutorial classes for every unit. I study to ensure the full benefit of my learning. Group study is a very important part of my learning experience and I believe working with those you find difficult to engage with as well and fantastic study partners is equally important. I regularly study in groups and bounce ideas off other students to gain a fuller

I believe that the New Colombo scholarship would allow me to engage in more units which challenge my understanding of the world and further develop my critical thinking skills. I would plan to choose a cultural or language unit to gain a deeper understanding of the country and community that I would be living in. I believe that this would not only benefit my immediate experiences whilst in the host country but also develop my ability to communicate and interact with the science community in Australia and overseas in years to come. I am very interested in this scholarship program for the academic opportunities it provides and encourages to develop my learning and knowledge for the benefit of myself and the national and international community.
Leadership in the community
Throughout my life I have been committed to being a leader and role model in my community. I have been highly committed to the Duke of Edinburgh program completing all three award levels, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Through this program I have gained experience in communicating with people of similar and very different circumstances and life experiences. I have volunteered at a nursing home talking and listening to residents, preparing and serving food at a local soup kitchen and coaching and mentoring rowers at my old high
During my high school career, I have participated in a large majority of the clubs available to me, and held officer positions in most of them as well. In both the National Honor Society and Medical Connections Clubs I am a member of two and four years respectively, and was elected treasurer of both for the 2017-2018 school year. National Honor Society has also given me many community service opportunities, including helping with the Night to Shine organization and a volunteering at a local nursing home.
I am equipped with professional qualities, and can work collaboratively with other professionals, I have astute attention to details and I possess great communication qualities in my current workplace and as a student. I have passionate curiosity and ambition towards the ever-changing Surgical Technologies, with a passion to improve the quality of the human life. These are what I feel are the personal qualities I have that makes me a successful student the Surgical Technology program. I am currently in my second to last semester in the surgical technology program and have had a great experience learning in the operating rooms during my clinical times. I am applying for this scholarship to help assist me in my surgical technology program
Over the past two years (2014-2016) I have participated in the National Junior Honors Society. As a member, I commit to completing community service and to learning among my peers in order to develop into a superior leader. I have taken part in activities such as fundraisers, team building activities, and several forms of community services such as working in a soup kitchen, daycares and organizing social events. Recently, I volunteered for a week as a vendor at a temple in Tacoma, raising money for the establishment during the Cambodian New Year festival.
Contributing to my school and community is a true passion. I am involved in programs like the Red Cross, Angel Tree created by The Salvation Army, and Olive Garden’s Pasta For Pennies. My school hosted a Red Cross blood drive, and I was responsible for promoting the event to individuals within our school. We had a total of two hundred students donate blood. We helped save a total of six hundred lives! I also assisted the Program Angel Tree by promoting the program among the student organizations within my school. Our involvement has helped hundreds of less fortunate children and seniors receive necessities and gifts! As a team, the student council also collects spare change from students in our school. Our collaboration with Olive Garden has helped fund the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's School & Youth campaign. I am truly glad that my contributions have made an impact within my community and society! My strong involvement in extracurricular activities has helped me become knowledgeable, principled, and a risk-taker. I carry a strong sense of respect and righteousness, and I approach unfamiliar opportunities with a vision and great courage. I seek to set an example for members within my school, community, state, and
I am a graduating senior from high school who is truly interested in obtaining my education in a 2-year program. Throughout high school I learned a good variety of lessons, not only did they help me achieve my goals academically but they gave me life skills such as problem-solving skills and time management skills. By being involved in different school activities such as JROTC and NHS, it made me acknowledge that I’m a service oriented person. By devoting my time to many volunteer activities I felt proud to be involved in my community and found a great satisfaction helping those surrounded by me.
Throughout the past four years of high school, I have done my best to try and stay actively involved in the community. I have been presented with some amazing volunteer opportunities such as Huron Safety Town, STAR Leadership Camp, American Red Cross, and Huron High School Girl’s Basketball Biddy Program. I spent over 24 hours at Huron Safety Town where I was able to help young students, mainly those going into Kindergarten, learn how to stay safe while on the road. I was also able to spend over 24 hours at STAR Leadership Camp where I was a councilor to those going into the sixth grade. I made sure that each student understood the importance of being a leader in today's society and how important they are to Huron’s community. Through National Honor Society I have been able to maintain in constant contact, approximately 10 hours, with the American Red Cross by volunteering in monthly blood drives. I have also dedicated 16 hours of my time to those young girls interested in someday being a varsity basketball player through the Biddy Basketball Program.
I have taken A-100 last semester and currently taking A-202 and C-106 this semester. I found myself very passionate about these topics and want to share this enthusiasm with others. I understand that not everyone like those classes or good at them and need extra help outside of the classroom. Therefore, I want to offer help to my peers and to share my study tips with them. Coaching other people and helping them to achieve their academic goals makes me feel achieved and proud to be a Kelley student. Working with diverse groups of people can help me develop stronger communication skills. Learning to adapt to various learning styles and seeing the gratitude of students when they understand a difficult concept are things that I want to be a part of.
In volleyball and basketball, I have been selected as team captains and awarded all league 1st team honors. Also in basketball, I have led the state in 3-pointers, broken the school record for 3-pointers in a game, and received Honorable Mention all-state. I am Student Council Activities Chair, the class of 2018 treasurer, three-time yearbook editor and FBLA public relations officer. The past three years I have competed in District and State FBLA competitions where I received 3rd in Journalism, and 1st place in Word Processing my junior year at districts, as well as getting 5th at state in Publication Designs. By not only being involved in various organizations, but holding leadership positions in them has taught me leadership skills and
Combining certain passions with the power granted to me, I chose to make the most out of my leadership position. I organized both the Recycling Committee and the St. Baldrick's fundraiser. In the Recycling Committee, I created a script, filmed, and edited a video emphasizing the importance of recycling. That video was then circulated throughout the school and was a success-- it prompted my peers to correctly recycle materials. Similarly, I ran the social media and advertising campaigns for the St. Baldrick's Fundraiser, raising awareness for childhood cancer. I not only want to achieve leadership positions, such as my National Honors Society position, but I want to exercise them to positively influence the community around
Throughout my life, I have had many experiences that will help me accomplish this and any other goals I may set. I have learned many attributes such as hard work, determination, and responsibility. I have held many leadership positions in my high school career. Most recently, I have held the position of a District FFA officer. Through this position, I have had to make decisions that will affect not only myself, but also hundreds of other FFA members in our district.
However, I am grateful that I have been able to identify the weak points in my learning efforts so early in my academic career and also been able to implement changes to them. The way in which I study is drastically changing and I have already seen positive improvements because of that. I have reprioritized many times, focusing primarily on my studies, and finally arrived at a balance that works best with my schedule. I have learned to not be reserved and to expose myself to all that is available at this university because some of my best experiences have come from unexpected moments. Overall, I have assured myself that choosing a liberal arts education was the best decision I made because it offers me an infinite amount of opportunities, both intellectually and personally. My goals have been reevaluated after my learning thus far and I am enthusiastic to continue to pursue them throughout the remainder of my time here. Academically, I plan to graduate with a competitive skillset that will set me apart from others in the workforce and also graduate studies. The education I am receiving here is phenomenal and I wish to translate that into my future career. To do so, I strive to be involved inside and outside of the classroom to further my knowledge in all subjects. Through involvement in various organizations, I aim to become more diverse in my abilities. Along with that, I have ambition
My passion for service and leadership has grown through my involvement in FCCLA, Honor Society, and Spirit Club. I would love to expand my leadership skills by working with my fellow peers as a student body officer and grow my love for community service as the service representative.
The Dewitt Dunham Scholarship is a great match to my interest in the field of Social and Political History. I discovered my passion for History as recently
My aim in applying to the Fulbright Scholarships Program is to get a master`s degree in English Language and Linguistics. I have chosen this field of study for some reasons:First,it is relevant to my educational background which is Bachelor`s degree in English language and literature.Second,I have always wanted to travel and study in a foreign country that speaks a different language ,to practise the language with the native speakers and to more explore their culture .I have always seen myself a bookish, who reads and looks up into the origin and history of every word I read.I have always wanted to explore the way in which a particular language is formed and transformed.Third,I am a polylot, who is acquainted with more than
I understand that in order to achieve my goal, I will have to make many sacrifices such as continuing to balance a full time job with family responsibilities and numerous difficult classes. I will work hard and plan to put a lot of effort into my classes to assure success in each of them.
