This impacted online users by a large scale as many netizens posted their concerns about the victims of the attack. However, how often does the news publish articles regarding the Iraqi Civil War which is still ongoing? The fact that news publishers only occasionally circulate information regarding the situation in these Middle-Eastern countries shows that certain publishers believe that the event is unimportant. Getting intelligence reports is hardly an issue for reporters, as it is seen that news publishers in BBC and the United Kingdom releases articles concerning the Iraqi Civil War more frequently than the Straits Times. This discriminatory picking of news gives rise to ignorance amongst people about the various happenings in other countries, leading to twisted

The bottom line is no matter how significant (or insignificant) the news may be, or what the subject of the news may

Media does a fantastic job of manipulating people to believe certain things without the audience realizing it. The media provides constant information about politics, and in more times than not, political rather than professional. In this lesson, we learned about liberals and conservatives and how political parties can be affected through media bias and public opinion.
“Halloween is a liberal holiday because we’re teaching our children to beg for something for free...we’re teaching kids to knock on other people doors and ask for handouts.” Sean Hannity from Fox News said in October of 2007. Fox News has been the mainstream, go-to news station for years. The popular news station gained the trust of the public by its credibility and ability to spread news fast and efficiently. This falls under one of the three principles of the role of media, honest reporting. According to Windschuttle, the role of the media can be characterised by 3 principles: Honest reporting; Adhering to the ethical obligations that bound them to the listener, viewer and reader; Lastly, commitment to good writing (Windshuttle, 1997). The role of the media is extended to informing the public of what they need to know in order to make decisions. The guard dog theory is a common way to describe the way mass media and journalists support various political views and groups but can also criticise the same groups when they violate the values they promised to adhere to. The theory claims that the idea of the guard dog is found in the middle ground between the ‘lap dog’ and the ‘watch dog’. They are neither entirely subservient to the powerful entities that control them nor completely serve the publics best interests (Akumey-Affizie, 2017) Most of the headlines from The Daily Maverick, The Citizen, The Huffington Post, and Time Live reflected the President and his decision in a negative light, with rare glimpses of positivity from newspapers like The New Age. Media coverage and the way they frame their stories directly affect the opinion and response of the public.

However, while news is expected to be correct and accurate, when it is flawed, real world consequences occur. The first and most understandable reason that news is flawed is that it is rushed. Competition has been introduced to the mainstream media in the form of social media. However, as Molly Wood from cnet puts it, “It's fast, but it's bad.” Known as breaking news, these rushed stories are generally inaccurate as they are being reported before the events have fully unfolded.
