The best politicians out there, are often not the ones that have the best ideas, but rather the ones that can trick and then steal the hearts of their audiences. The people of the world will often support and vote for the candidate with the story that impacts them the most. The stories the candidates say may often not be true, this is what Hedges’ meant when he said that “the most essential skill…. Is artifice.”

Chapter Seven Essay--Trace the development of political parties during Washington's administration and describe their basic philosophies.

The third party in American national politics has been unsuccessful, rarely making a big impact although not unprecedented. The Constitution, on the other hand, makes third parties unviable. Third party candidates, such as Ross Perot, who ran as an independent in 1992 have made a great impact on the national politics, forcing both Republican and Democratic Party candidates to debate the issue of a balanced budget. However, the third party has not had much success in the national politics due to lack of media coverage, the nature of the electoral system, and restrictive ballot access laws.

In today’s society it is noticed that in the most recent presidential elections, specifically the upcoming election in November, there are candidates that uphold little to no political experience. Some examples of candidates like this would be Donald Trump, a businessman who can carry out negotiations well regarding the economy however, his views can be seen as extremely conservative and violent towards other races and sexes, and Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon who is well educated and is able to speak clearly to the American public but is currently dropping in the polls. Also current President Barack Obama had actually began running for president after only being a new senator in Illinois for quite a short period of time, four years to be exact.

The federal government & Constitution, as we know it now, was created by one George Washington and fifty-four other delegates. This number included one Thomas Jefferson the leader of the Anti-federalists or as we know them the Democratic, and one Alexander Hamilton the leader of the federalist or Republicans (Fellows, 2015). Washington believed one political party should govern the US; however, the other two distinct political groups won out in the end, bringing in the two-political parties. This took many disagreements and debates among these fifty-five men and as a result we have the development of the federal government.

The first chapter of the book, “It Is Not Who You Know: It’s Who You Get To Know," has truly exemplified on how politicians should take this rule as a stepping to perceiving on how politicians could become successful within the political world or acquire the highest political status

Watching this video made me understand a lot more than what I previously knew about our modern day government. I knew that there are two different parties that make up the Senate, but I didn't realize the completely different views and beliefs these two parties have. As a result of this, I believe that this is one of the stem problems of peoples distrust in government. See if one party cannot trust one another to do what's right for America Why should we trust them. If the republicans and democrats were able to come to a compromise in order to make America healthy and safe for Americans rather than trying to completely oppose one another. How do two seemingly very different Americans both desire to become the leader of the greatest country? While Real Estate mogul Donald Trump and lawyer by trade Hillary Clinton have striking differences, they also share similarities. College students often find it difficult to become interested in politics. However, after the first few years’ students learn to become interested due to that affecting them more once they are in the “real world”. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are to prime examples. They are often compared because of their party affiliation, experience, and campaigning styles.

Based on my research and understanding of the political parties I believe that the party I most closely align with is the Liberal party.

Essay #1: Political Parties in America favor electoral victories over achieving policy outcomes because of the way our parties are structured. As noted in the readings from, “Parties, Politics, and Public Policy in America” by Marc Hetherington and Bruce Larson, American political parties are largely fragmented. The reading describes how our main parties, the Democrats and Republicans, are fragmented across various sub-groups, states, and ideologies.

When looking at the history of US political parties, and classifying these parties into distinct party systems, five separate periods emerge leading up to the current party system. When classifying these party systems, it is important to look at characteristics such as the number of major parties, how these parties seek to gain support, and how the parties organize themselves. The earliest American parties were relatively centralized organizations that represented elite level concerns. They formed mainly at the national level, with low levels of grassroots connections. The first national party to come to prominence was the Federalist Party, who were opposed by the Democratic-Republican Party. The main cleavage that divided these parties was the degree to which the federal government should be centralize power. With the Federalist Party arguing for a stronger role and the Democratic-Republican Party supporting greater rights for the states. Both the modern day Democrats and Republicans are the result of a fracturing of the Democratic-Republican Party. Internal conflict caused by the expansion of the country and the issue of slavery caused the party to split and form the Democrats and with the remaining faction joining with the Whig Party to Oppose the Democrats. Further division on slavery caused the Whigs to also fracture, giving rise to the Republican Party, who arose as the anti-slavery faction of the party.

The best political party for our nation at this time is the Democratic Party. The Republican Party’s candidate, Donald Trump has no political experience in politics, senate or foreign policy. Presently our country is still affected by a recent recession, low employment rates, and fear and ambivalence of ongoing wars. A democratic party would take a more prevalent role in America’s crumbling society. As a government it is time we focus on our country and move ahead. “I understand Democracy is something that gives the weak the same chance as the strong”, Mahatma Gandhi. There is a massive need for healthcare and education in our country for everyone. Education including Planned Parenthood and proper schooling should not be just for the affluent.

Third parties have many issues and ideologies. Parties such as the Christian Liberty Party want to favor Christian principles in politics. Some of their roles are to aim to educate citizens about their specific issues. Even though the Prohibition Party had the highest popular vote in 1872, they really wanted their issue of banning the sale of alcohol to be seen in America. So, their roles are really only seen as showing minor issues (sometimes even big issues such as the banning of alcohol) to the public.

. Political parties offer political programs and participate in elections in order to gain access to political science and to implement them. Social movements seize new demands that remain unanswered by institutional actors and articulate them in the non-electoral channels of the public sphere.
