As a non-traditional student, I have experienced so many interests in my life, but as stated by Eleanor Roosevelt being interested in one thing will lead to new interests. I found this to be very interesting because although I had never really thought about it I found it to be true because being interested in my education has brought many new interests to me and will continue to bring many more. Some of the interests that I have gained during my academic career include things such as the masters of accountancy program, supply chain management, volunteer work, teamwork, and leadership skills to name a few of the most important that will carry on with me after graduation.
When I first began my academic career after being away for so long, I
In “Hidden Intellectualism”, Gerald Graff discusses the need to encourage students to apply their knowledge in a variety of areas to academic pursuits and the need for schools to ‘exploit’ the students interests in such a way that they will succeed in their studies. Graff is a professor at the University of Illinois and begins the essay with discussion of his childhood and Chicago and the impact that upbringing had on his interests and personality. He understands that not every student is going to be immediately interested in subjects which have long been near and dear to those in the higher levels of academia, but that student’s more “lowbrow” interests are just as valid as means of communication,
Yes this alternate major interests me. I've always been interested in the human body, physically and mentally. Being able to get into the depth of what it's like to get into the mental state of someone's mental being has always amazes me. Going into the field of nursing, I will be taking care of people through physical knowledge. But when dealing with multiple people and various emotions it's best to be familiar with the psychology of the human mind as well. Not only to understand the emotions of patients but also to be able to show empathy for all of the
One of the major struggles of my life was changing my outlook on school and consequently life. A large part of human thinking revolves around the fact that the appreciation of something one has does not nearly come close to the appreciation of something one used to have. I did the same with my mom’s advice to me, the classic put-it-away-for-later technique that almost everybody learned how to do when it comes time for parental suggestion. My mom used to try and tell me about how chasing interests would always be better than following anything else, and that applied to high school as well. She emphasized that she’d rather I take a class that piqued my curiosity than one that was just for the prestige. This advice at the time neither seemed relevant,
My life unconventionally shaped my aspirations, while I want to major in business because I know I can excel, I also intend on keeping community service a major part of my life and helping people through the things I’ve dealt with. I enjoy studying philosophy as well as psychology/ human behavior because it helps me understand the people and world around me which is all I really want in
In my favorite classes, math, and science, I assimilate and get enthralled by what is taught and finish the papers right after they are given. I don't take the path with no effort, but I take the one with the most information. I often get intrigued by what from and start asking random questions to clear all the doubts I get on the topic. In science, I am able to learn how certain things connect to our lives and other subjects such as math and really how useful
The formation of interest group is quite difficult task as it requires the unification of people to work together and accomplish the desired needs. Different people have their own way of thinking and also they have different interest on the particular subject. There are many people who are suffering from similar problems, so these people can unite with each other and form a group in order to act against such difficulties. A group can be created by sharing the common interest and their motives to achieve success and escape away from obstacles.
There’s so much opportunity to learn new skills, and information about my professional degree study. With the information that’s taught to me, it will not make me limited on what I could do in the work field. Educational Studies will help support, and get me ready for what I need to know. The study teaches about diversity, multicultural issues, children with learning issues, and so much more.
From the time I was young to this day, I have always been passionate about helping those around me. As with many others who have similar passions as mine, becoming educators is a particularly fitting career. Not only will my dream to help these students have a meaningful impact on the world which we live in, but also this will have positive consequences for myself. Working to apply my ideals for an engaging method for educating will allow myself to both apply that which I have learned about interest based education from my time as a student in the Craft Academy at Morehead State University, and will also grow my understanding of the factors which influence the quality of education for
I get a kick out of the chance in my self-appraisal to analyze my identity and interests. I settle on choices about my scholastic system and future vocation based upon my shallow comprehension of my own advantages, identity, and qualities. Yet when I get in my ACA 122 class, I need to take an ideal opportunity to ponder about distinguishing what precisely makes me special and after that quest for scholarly program and professions that suit me the most. As an undergrad, I get a kick out of the chance to pick my scholastic project and future profession based upon my interests. For instance, I appreciate hands on work and investigate thoughts by breaking down and constructing things which makes me occupied with flying architecture and PC equipment.
This study compared and contrasted preferences and experiences of traditional and non-traditional students. Students at a mid-sized state university in the southeast region of the United States were surveyed to determine the number of hours spent working off-campus, hours spent studying, their preferred learning format, and current GPA. Results of the study revealed that non-traditional students surveyed spent significantly more hours studying and working off-campus. No statistically significant differences were observed between groups regarding preferences in learning format, number of hours enrolled, and grade point averages.
My fondness of academics has and will aid me during my time in school, since I can more easily hold onto
For as long as I can remember, I have always been intrigued by new concepts and endeavors. Things like instruments and foreign languages always seemed to be calling my name. When registration for high school rolled around it was troublesome trying to cull the electives that were
Throughout my life, I have made many changes, taken on many challenges, and accomplished many goals. Before now, I have not spent much time or energy examining my motivations, attempting to determine how or why things turned out well, or did not. However, currently I find it necessary to do just that, as I am beginning a new chapter in my life: college. As I move through my first year of college, at the age of fifty-six, I feel I do not have the time to guess at what will lead me toward the best possible outcomes. I need to be clear on what works and what does not. I can think of two important experiences I have had in my adult life, one motivated by intrinsic values, and one by extrinsic factors. An examination of both may give me better understanding of how I can make the most of my education.
My interest in the liberal arts and sciences stems from the desire to be better prepared for an ever-changing world. Its focus on interdisciplinary studies fosters good communication skills, critical thinking and curiosity in a broad subject range thus preparing me with a skill set that is always
Personally, it has always been hard for me to stay organized and develop plans to achieve whatever it is I am doing if I do not have passion for it. I have always had a dislike for most of the things I have learned in school, but developed a passion for the world of business. Tony Hsieh said, “Chase the vision [or plan], not the money; the money will end up following you.” Over the past years, my intellectual development involving business has resulted in a growth of my desire to learn and succeed in school.
