I believe that peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society. It gives citizens the right to protest against what they believe is wrong without the use of violence. Although it is not right to purposefully break the law it is better to break the law in a peaceful way rather than in a way that could bring harm to other people. Civil disobedience commonly has to do with laws that conflict with people's moral beliefs. Gandhi used nonviolent civil disobedience to protest racial laws in South Africa and in India's struggle for independence. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others made civil disobedience a main turning point of the Civil Rights Movement. They defied the Jim Crow laws through sit-ins, boycotts, and protests.
Civil disobedience has been used by the people to get the attention of their government and to hopefully inspire change. Civil disobedience is an act of refusal by a large group of people against certain laws. From Ghandi to Martin Luther King Jr, people have used civil disobedience to enact change. While the concept of civil disobedience has been around for centuries, it hasn’t been called civil disobedience until recently. Protest, rallies, boycotting and worker strikes are forms of civil disobedience. Civil disobedience has been used for social change too. For example, the suffragettes, Rosa Parks and marches to legalize gay marriage have had social ramifications. Civil disobedience can be used to change laws, it publicizes important changes but it can be overshadowed by violence. Civil disobedience is a good way to change laws because it’s usually peaceful, brings attention to controversial laws and brings about social change.
Though, I feel strongly that no law should be broken, I do see purpose in the peaceful disobedience provided you are willing to suffer the consequences. Therefore I would have to agree that it positively impacts a free society. We are all under strict laws and it is our freedom to either obey or not, with the latter resulting in consequence. Take for instance, the protest against injustice, the harmless act that took place in the Negro movement with Martin L. King. Not to mention the fact pointed out in Arguments against Civil Disobedience, sums up the fact that if we do not argue a point, another point would never be made. Not all situations are to be defended but some should. It is like a growth among us, which completely leads me to disagree with (as mentioned in the attacks), self-law making. There must be a form of discussion taking place (within certain levels of citizens) in order to advance in changes to laws as they were originally written. That is what makes us a free society.
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts our free society. It allows us to make our voices heard and spread a message if there is a law that we find is either unfair or goes against our protected freedoms. Peaceful resistance has helped our country grow on multiple occasions. It has always been a part of our countries history and is well protected by our First Amendment rights. Due to this, There is little to know doubt that peaceful resistance has positively effected the lives of many Americans.
I believe that peaceful resistance to laws both positively and negatively impacts a free society. Civil disobedience is the refusal to obey certain laws and government demands one considers unjust, and accepting the consequences. The first amendment prohibits Congress to enact any law that would intervene with any person's civil rights. Though everybody knows this, why are there discussions about what people can and cannot refuse to do. Some people refuse to do things because it goes against their faith, which as stated earlier is allowed according to the first amendment. While others refuse to see what is right in front of them, in the very center of the Declaration of Independence.
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society because it arouses concern and opens the eyes of law makers and others who are obliged to follow them.
In the letter from the eight Alabama clergymen, they felt as though those protesting should refrain from nonviolent protesting until the court system decides on their matter. The undersigned clergymen issued an "appeal for law and order and common sense," directing it towards the racial problems in Alabama. The clergymen made it clear that they felt, extreme measures in Birmingham will not be the resolution to the Negro community's problem, despite how peaceful they might be. The letter was meant to sound as considerate as possible, despite attempting to strip the Negro community of their first amendment god-given right. The clergymen feel as though it would be better to have have local leaders act on the matter, instead of gatherings
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impact a free society, because all committed acts of civil disobedience, all but in very different cases. Have shown a positive impact amongst the people by proving to everyone and the government that every U.S citizen has the freedom to fight for their rights and freedom and not let anyone disrespect their human morals.
Peaceful resistents to laws either positively or negatively impacts a free society. I believe that peaceful resistant to laws does positively impact a free society just look at Rosa Parks, Thomas Jefferson and also Daniel Ellsberg they all helped in some type of way by using peaceful resistance to the laws. In some ways civil disobedience does help the government get better and also some says that it destroys the civil society. From the article ,"Is it right to break the law" by Charles Frankel it discuss is it ever right to break the law and in some situations it is but it also depends on how you handle the situation and what your motives are. It depends on if you are harmimg someone and if your taking a stand and wanting to change something for the better. I do not believe that is showing negatively on society
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impact a free society. As a society there is nothing stronger than "We the people". Our silence and words speak louder than any actions of ours ever could. Rosa Parks did not scream or fight back against the policemen or the people who tried to make her go sit in the back of the bus. She just sat there quietly which scared people.
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society. It has a positive impact to a free society because most people would generally oppose taking the consequences for an unjust law, calling it absurd. By demonstrating to a society that you can make a difference by remaining peaceful to remove an unjust law, you will likely gain followers. This is good because one individual isn?t enough to change a law by protesting. Instead, a group or community can eventually make a difference to removing or altering unjust laws by performing civil disobedience.
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society. Peaceful resistance to allowing voices to be heard. It also allows people to fight for the rights that they believe in. In some cases it is a fight for equality and in other cases liberty. These are just two of the reasons why people participate in peaceful resistance to laws.
Peaceful resistance to a law is exactly what a free society needs in order to manage the "free" status. If we were forced to obey every law without a say, we would not be a truly free society. Civil disobedience is one of the most positive impacts the people can have on their own government, especially one that claims to be one of the people, for the people, and by the people. When the people disagree with a law they have always and will always have a right to stand against it. It is a vital part of an American's first amendment rights: the freedom of speech (among other things).
In a free society, people are given the opportunity to stand up for what they believe in. I believe that the act of civil disobedience, or peaceful resistance to laws, positively impacts a free society for a number of reasons. Civil disobedience can have a positive effect when the government is flawed or when the law being resisted is wrong or prejudiced. In these situations, civil disobedience and peaceful resistance can mend some of the injustices that were being inflicted. All governments, including democracies, are flawed.
What is nonviolent disobedience and what events have exemplified Dr.King's message? Nonviolent civil disobedience is a type of political action that relies on deliberately breaking laws. By doing this, people are calling attention to the unjust laws and punishments of pursuing a just cause. For example, for two weeks in April of 1947 volunteers for the Congress of Racial Equality rode 26 busses in Southern States. Many of them were repeatedly arrested, while others were mobbed by angry whites. On January 29, 1961, James Meredith, an African American and air force veteran submitted an application for the all white university of Mississippi. He was refused by the administration until the NAACF brought a suit against the University. As a result,
Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society. Rather than having violent movements and harming citizens, it is better to peacefully resist. Once a violence is used, the resistance to the law becomes nulled. People tend to not follow a violence protester. Once a violent riot starts, chaos is everywhere. People forget what they are truly fighting for. They unconsciously run away with the fear of getting harmed and dare not to go back. A peaceful resistance on the other hand leads citizens to join and support. People are able to see what they are fighting for and their real intentions. They are able to stand and cause no problem to people passing by as they are showing their support through silent voices. Many famous activists and leaders are for nonviolence. Mahatma Gandhi, a primary leader of India’s independence
