The Northern Lights are collisions of gaseous particles in Earth’s atmosphere with charged particles released from the sun’s atmosphere. The northern lights form when charged particles released from the sun during a solar flare that kind of spike the Earth’s magnetic shield and collide with molecules and atoms in the atmosphere. The lights are seen in different types of colors like yellowish green, pale green, pink, purple, blue, and sometimes orange. The green or pale green is the most common and the most people have seen. The person who created the name for the lights was a French mathematician named, Galileo Galilei. The Greenland eskimos consider the northern lights as spirits of children who died at birth. Other eskimos called the “
Here are some of the legends about the “Dover lights.” One of the legends is about Spanish conquistadors back in the 1600s or 1700s looking for gold in Dover, Arkansas, but of course, they never found any. Another legend is about a Coal mine in the mountains. Miners were looking for coal. One day they were mining, and all of a sudden the cave ended up collapsing, and killing/ crushing several miners. Another legend is about a Native American burial ground, and the lights are the spirits of chiefs, or leaders, leading their people to the after life. And the last legend is about a lonely couple back in the 1800s, the wife fell ill, and her husband looked everywhere for a doctor. After the husband found a doctor, the doctor helped her, and nurtured her, the man, and wife are poor, but the husband was very good at making hunting weapons (guns, etc.) the man offered the doctor several dozen rifle bullets. The doctor agreed to take the bullets as payment. Time passed on, the doctor soon became successful with life, and he was very wealthy. One day he was looking through his attic, and he came across the bullets that the man gave
Nestled in the Pisgah National Forest is Brown Mountain. Located in Western North Carolina, this mysterious location, which lies on the borders of Caldwell and Burke counties, has been the place of many sightings of a phantom light since the 1200’s. The story behind the lights was first told to me by my mother. As it went, a plantation owner went out hunting one night but never returned. He was a kind man and treated his slaves very well. Because of this, one of his slaves set out to search for him carrying a lantern. The light seen is said to be the slave with his lantern going out every night, even into death, combing the mountain searching for his master. After some investigation, I found other accounts of what the lights may represent. The earliest accounts of the Brown Mountain Lights were by Indian Tribes. The Cherokee and the Catawba believed the lights to be the torches of Indian women searching for their men following a ferocious battle between the two tribes. There was so much death and carnage, that their souls still haunt the mountain searching for their warriors. Another story tells
C.Twilight, the time after sunset (and before sunrise) when the sky remains somewhat illuminated D.The green flash, scintillation, and twilight are all results of atmospheric refraction.
The Blizzard of 1978 was a disaster because it caused so many issues for more than 3 states. Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Southwest Wisconsin were all affected by the high winds of 100 miles per hour and 40-60 inches of snow. Also, some homes’ roofs were torn apart and fell in the home. This killed more than 400 people, buried in 27 feet of snow or more. Weather stations had to readjust their weather chart due to pressures falling below the chart scale. This nearly caused a hurricane to happen. Other regions only saw over a foot of snow from the storm.
Scientist have discovered that a meteor, has been lost for 25 years after losing orbit has finally been found headed toward Clare High School. Most of the people in Clare, Michigan were all freaking out, while the student of Clare High were calm and collective. “We say it will hit in approximately 5 days,” one scientist said, “So we shall head to the Smithsonian Institute of Science and Technology in Washington D.C.”
On a windy and rainy Saturday I went to the Short North for the first time. I had heard that it is a neighborhood as well as a shopping and dining area. I had also heard that it had been built up within the last few years and is popular for college age students. It has over 300 businesses and has been awarded various accolades. Through all of these things this place has acquired the title of “the art and soul of Columbus” (shortnorth.org). This motto evokes a sense of imagination and play through its creative and vibrant undertones, which I felt during my visit and is why people come and explore this place. Based on it’s inviting motto and my experience I became curious as to why this destination is significant or in other
America needs to take advantage of the melting ice in the Arctic to access the massive energy resources there and utilize those energy resources to buy itself time to develop sustainable large-scale energy options including nuclear fusion. We simply need more time to develop a good plan, one that can be well executed and will give America a chance to avoid dependency on other countries in order to meet its energy needs. The strategy of utilizing Arctic energy will enable America to maintain a standard of living that is equivalent to what the present generation of Americans enjoy and is an obligation we owe to future generations.
About 22 years ago WWIII began. They say the world population dropped from 7.5 billion to about 2 billion. Then 1 year later The Dark Sun rose. The Dark Sun is a terrorist group lead by Emperor Sivorisk. They rose from the ashes of the world, and they are the only ones in history to ever achieve what any super villain wants… world domination.
How are the colors of the Northern Lights created? "The atmosphere contains mostly nitrogen and oxygen, which the characteristics colors of their respective line spectra." [webexhibits.org] The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, has many elements in the surface of the earth. There's atomic oxygen, nitrogen, mixed with hydrogen. "Only one of these elements are responsible for the two main colors which are green and red." [webexhibits.org] You would think that the Aurora was just lights appearing in the sky but they're actually distractions between electrically charged particles from the sun that comes into the earth's atmosphere. [northernlightscentre.ca] The most common colors are green, yellow, and red. Nitrogen causes most of the blue, purple, and red parts, the bright cool colors. Atomic oxygen causes most of the orange and yellow parts, the warm colors. Northern Lights are like curtains in the sky

La Niña is coming. Are we ready? It is the result of the end of a weather pattern called El Niño, and it is the colder phase of it. It is dramatically affecting the countries along the Atlantic Coast, including Asia, Australia, South America, and North America.
The Aurora Borealis also known as “Northern Lights”, are bright lights that appear when the sun's temperature rises. When the temperature rises and the sun begins to overheat it releases oxygen and nitrogen. Oxygen and Nitrogen are the key factors that gives you the colors that are associated with the lights. “The colors most often associated with the aurora borealis are pink, green, yellow, blue, violet, and occasionally orange and white. Typically, when the particles collide with oxygen, yellow and green are produced. Interactions with nitrogen produce red, violet, and occasionally blue colors.” (SPACE.com Staff 3). This quote gives us a little more information about what colors are present, and how they are formed. You can mainly see these
Sunspots, where most solar flares occur, are dark patches on the surface of the sun. This is where the gas of the sun is not so hot and causes it to take on a different color. A typical sunspot is about 22,000 miles in diameter and the number visible sunspots from satellites are about 5 to 100, it varies.
Natural and artificial light have varying properties that affects their capability and appropriateness these properties regularly impact their surroundings. Natural light comes in a spectrum of colours, which are the visible rays. Also on the colour spectrum are shorter wavelengths, named ultraviolet rays and higher wavelengths, known as infrared rays. Both of these are not visible to us. Exposure to the sunlight can help
