“Not so Happily Ever After”

Why are the trends of relationships not always leading up to the happily ever after we always dreamed would happen? Society has emerged into a common trend of living together either early in a dating relationship, a more serious commitment with one another before the ring happens, or if couples may not believe in the institution of marriage to make the commitment real. All these arguments have been seen in the way that society has progressed into this way of thinking. However, living together before marriage does not appear to be the way to have a safe and stable relationship that builds into a marriage or a lasting relationship. Living together before marriage will not get you to your happily ever after. One cause of living together as not being the best solution to have a lasting relationship can be looked at by the trends. Marriage rates have fallen due to the fact that there is an increase in number of couples living together before marriage.
“Marriage rates have fallen during the same period that cohabitation has become more common. Reports from both France and Australia indicate that couples in those countries have been forming unions at a rather constant rate despite a decline in marriage rates, with the difference being made up by cohabitation (Bumpass, Sweet 616).” Living together thinking it will lead to marriage is not showing to be the trend.
