Part of you is being slowly chipped away, the more and more you live life the less and less you have of it and you don't even know it. “Nothing Gold Can Stay” is a poem by Robert Frost that uses nature to represent innocence in a person. The Outsiders is about a boy named Ponyboy and his gang the Greasers dealing with bullying, deaths, and life threatening situations that chips away at their personalities. In the Poem “Nothing gold can stay” by Robert Frost and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton the theme innocence is portrayed in similar ways.

Robert Frost is the author of Nothing Gold Can Stay. Although you have to break down this poem to get the real meaning, it is based off of his point of view of politics. But, this poem can also be taken many different ways. Even though I said it was based off of politics, it can also be about nature and life.

Some similarities are that they both represent change,they both have imagery, and they both include alliteration. Some differences are that on Nothing Gold Can Stay the author uses a rhyme scheme and this poem is more about life. In the poem Abandoned Farmhouse the author uses personification,character development,and the poem is more about hardship.

In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost the themes are some what similar. The Outsiders talks about two social classes fighting each other and what happened because of it. The poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” talks about how we need to treasure beautiful things because they can’t stay forever. The Outsiders and “Nothing Gold Can Stay” themes are about self-sacrifice, honor, and treasuring things.

In the Outsiders by S.E Hinton the theme is that nothing good can stay. For example the sun never stays up, it always goes down. In the poem “Nothing Gold can stay” and the Outsiders the themes are almost Identical. The theme is that nothing good ever lasts forever, and that all good things must go. The Outsiders presents a roller coaster of events where things go from atrocious to wonderful.

Throughout the book, Holden struggles with the fact that his brother his died and as a result, fails out of school and is depressed often. Not wanting to face his parents’ anger, he begins wandering around New York City for a few days reminiscing on childhood memories and trying to make sense of his life and why he’s forced to soon grow up. The poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost explains that nothing great is permanent. The author describes all things beautiful as extremely temporary and hard to hold on to. There are several themes in Nothing Gold Can Stay. They are of Nature, youth, and the cycle of life and death. The poet uses a lot of personification and metaphors to express the themes.

It tells how all the things eventually were not gold anymore. Even though, the title of this poem is Nothing Gold Can Stay, it basically explains the whole poem about how nothing will remain perfect. It is pretty straight forward and does not imply mulitiple possibilities.

Also, the poems mention how something might or will not last forever; “leaving us to question what entices us, what lasts” (Stover 14-15), and “Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour.” (Frost 3-4) On the other hand, the poems are different, because “Beach Walk Souvenir” talks about the glimmer, the inner shine, that objects (on the beach) have; “Nothing Gold Can Stay” talks about the outside beauty that objects in nature have.

The title of the poem Nothing Gold can Stay doesn't have an obvious meaning. If the readers start out, they would think it was about nature, but Frost is talking about his time in war with Germany and how the country thought that the world was coming to an end. The readers have to read between the lines to get the real story in the poem. If you look a the poem very closely, than you can see that his way of writing the book is very good because many people could look at it a hundred different ways and find a good story out of it.

Yet, this poem emphasizes more about the transience of life rather than the suddenness of life ending. “Nothing Gold can Stay” is about the appreciation for the golden days while the cycle of life continues and death becomes of each and every one of us.
