so small she can’t read them, this project will also resolve that issue. And it will save paper, money and we are protecting the environment. The Reps commissions’ process starts by going to our accounting software, search for our reps name and print out a summary of the customers’ names. The summary is usually one page, I don’t intent to change that part of the process. From there, Amanda goes to a database in access and type the name of the customers to obtain a list of all sales for that rep. She informed me, having to enter the customer’s name in access is timewasting. Sometimes there can be fifty customers, it is time consuming and leaves room for error. Talking about the process informed me about other issues with the process. Once she …show more content…

After a few days of thinking I came with a solution which I think was wonderful. Converting the file from PDF to Excel, which she can do her calculations and type in her notes. I suggested it to her and she agreed that it would be helpful. There is an option to do it directly from the file. We tried and we couldn’t, we needed to pay for it. I looked at the different subscription options which were the following; the first one was to subscribe for $14.99 a month for the option to convert pdf to different types of files and additional features. Printing one sheet of paper cost $0.20, for this task Amanda usually prints 225 which result of $45 for the total printing papers. As I mentioned she does it every month which result a total of $540. If we subscribe for $23.40 a month we would save about $500. It will benefit the environment as well. Before talking to my manager, I decided to do some research about how saving paper will protect the environment. About a million tons of paper are used every day around the world and 93% of it comes from trees. Half of municipal waste is paper. About 20,000,000 trees are cut annually. (Mittal, 2009) Trees are very important to the environment, cutting them is affecting the environment negatively. In a year for this task alone, we print a total of 2,700 pages of paper. 8 trees of 8-inch diameter and 45 feet produce 1,000 to 2,000 pounds of paper. 500 sheets of paper weights 5 pounds, which is about 1,000 to 2,000 sheets per tree. By saving 2,700 sheets of paper a year we will be saving a tree. (Schildgen,
