This semester I did current event assignments I thought I’d never have to do ever again. In my middle school, I did an assignment almost identical to the current events assignments I

This semester I read about 16 articles of news that either happened currently or years before. The only source I used to to find these articles were a site called Newsela. Newsela to me is a very trustworthy site to use to find news articles about anything subject matter. There is Financial, Science, and many more I could’ve used for my current events assignments. I found Newsela because my teacher recommended me to use the website for the assignments. What I found most interesting about this assignment was the different news that can appear each day. I can log on one day and see many various news events, then the next day a whole new page of news surface. I also like to be updated with what is happening in the world even if I’m far from the event. What I found most challenging of the assignments were writing about who the target audience were for each news article. I was not sure who the articles would target, because I would just find any news article that seemed interesting to me. Finding informational materials affected my understanding of the world by informing me information I would need to know in the future or keeping my awareness up of my surroundings. The topics that attracted
I made one other staff application before on a server called PowerCraft. I was fortunate enough (and lucky enough) to actually come through. The staff application format over at PowerCraft's website was similar to the format on this
On September 11, 2015, I was pulled over and accused of going 76mph on a road where the speed limit was 45mph. At first I was in shock because I was unaware that my driving was so recklessly, however, that same day one of my tires was found to be flat resulting in a trip to Tire Kingdom to purchase a new tire. When I arrived, a few of the mechanics on duty commented on the size of my tires. They informed me that the rims that were on my car at the time, and had been on my car since before I bought it, were nineteen inches long and the rims designed for my car are supposed to be fifteen inches long. They then went on to explain that due to the size of the tires versus the size of the car, my speedometer was actually displaying my speed to be
After completing this assignment, I feel as though the way I think and my outlook on certain things has changed in small, yet significant ways. For example, one of the most interesting myths, myth 28 (There’s Safety in Numbers), has changed the way I will react in situations of emergency. Having the awareness of the tendency to ignore someone in need when in a crowd will help me to overcome that tendency and actually help. I also found myths 15 (IQ Tests Are Biased against Certain Groups of People) and 20 (Researchers Have Demonstrated That Dreams Possess Symbolic Meaning) very interesting. I held some belief that dreams meant something more than just the random occurrences we see, so knowing they hold no insight into our minds and psyches makes me feel less distrait. As for myth 15, I simply found it amazing that so many people would rather blame the IQ tests for the inconsistencies in scores, rather than look deeper and take responsibility for the social disadvantages and prejudices against groups.
I met my best friend Briana Williams when I was eight years old, in the second grade at Flat Rock Elementary School. Ms. Wyatt our second grade teacher would always line us up next to each other because we were both about the same height. Before you knew it we began forming a friendship.
Currently I work at a school that I have been at for the ten years. As a former Special Education teacher and second grade teacher, I have been able to view the academic picture from multiple vantage points. As a campus, we have consistently seen success in the area of math, however, reading has been an area of inconsistencies. When I began to look at data from recent years I noticed something in particular regarding third grade.
By furthering my qualifications and teaching Communications maintenance school, I have had a fleet wide impact on the supervisors of each communications division. Additionally, being selected as Instructor of the Year FY 2015 and Department MTS Coordinator I have more influence on the daily operations of NAVSUBSCOL as a whole. I am applying for the LDO program to further extend this influence. I am a hard charging individual that leads by raising the standards and demanding it from others to follow, this is why I was ranked #1 out of 85 in my command. I am highly competent, computer savvy and well educated sailor that has always desired to be part of the LDO community.
The organization and structure of a website could either add to the success of the website’s mission statement or it could take away from the overall success of the website. Aspects that could influence the website’s effectiveness include: appeal, range of offerings, accessibility, efficiency, and the website’s ease of use. On the website’s “About Us” page, the mission is stated: “Education World is a complete online resource that teachers, administrators and school staff can visit each day to find high-quality and in-depth original content. We update the site daily, offering: Carefully curated news briefs on topics that matter to educators, Lesson plans, printables, worksheets
During the semester there were a lot of topics that I liked that reminded me of a lot of things that happened in my life that shaped my personality. I liked talking about the importance of fatherhood, feminism, and wrongful social expectations in my personal life.
There were many good topics we learned about this semester and the topic that I think is the best is when we learned about was the 19th Amendment. the 19th Amendment was created to give women their rights. Around the roaring twenties there was a big protest called the women’s rights movement which caused women to have their rights granted to them. Before this movement women did have the right to do anything really, they didn’t have the right to vote, they didn’t have have the right to own anything, they could not go out and buy anything because they could not work, and they could not do as they pleased. Women only really had a few jobs and that is stay at the house all day cook, clean, and take care of their husbands. This is why the Women’s
This quarter I took FB’s class disease and epidemics where we learned a bunch of things that I never knew like how the immune system fights bacteria and viruses, we learned what the difference between between a pandemic and an epidemic are, quarantine and civil rights and public health and what I thought was the coolest part was how we learned about how living in different areas can make you more or less likely to get certain diseases.
The reading that resonated with me the most was the “Seven Ways to be More Curious” by Ian Leslie. The reading made me really reflect on how our society is so quick to jump into a conclusion about a question. We no longer search through many sources to determine an answer. What we read first from our phone or computer is what we believe. I liked the quote “ When you run into something interesting drop everything else and study it”. Todays age we are so focus on being a multitasker, on occasion that is a good idea, but not always. We are no longer diving into something we find fascinating. We still get distracted by other things or have thought in our mind that does not allow us to completely focus on the interesting topic. Our mind is always
Throughout the semester I seemed to focus on globalization and transnational families in my journal. I tried to focus on topics that connected to the people I know in my life and the things that have also affected my family and I. These topics helped me not only better understand my close friends but also gave me a better look at myself and how my families background has affected the way I am now. Before this class, I never truly sat down and thought about how my grandparents move to America may have affected the way I am personally to this day. It has been interesting making all of the connections from the articles and journal topics from this class to my own family. Also reading about how globalization has been affecting transnational
As of now, I have learned a lot of new information. I have also expanded on some of my knowledge, as I have taken Human Behavior with Kathryn last semester.
This semester has been an interesting one in every subject. Though only a few were particularly amazing. In biology I grew globally because I now know what climates are in different parts of the world. For example the Tundra is located in Northern Canada and Greenland. In Drama I grew socially because the class performed a play called Personal Statement and the actors and I promoted the play through social media. Finally, I grew academically in english. In here I learned how to properly write and deliver a speech. This can help me out so much in the future because i will be able to write a more detailed resume.
When I first became interested in what was going on in the world I always turned to the News Channel or a documentary to inform me on that days current event. I never opened a newspaper, magazine, book etc. because I felt it was less time consuming, more intriguing and easier to understand if I listened to the story being told rather than reading it. Because of this class and our weekly article assignments, I realized it is much more interesting to open up a newspaper or print out an article to read rather than watch a television screen to inform me on what is going on in the world today. Not only did this class help me enjoy reading more but it also taught me the real meaning behind key terms and cases that can help me make better use of the article I am reading rather than trying to understand what the story is. I truly believe these article assignments caused a major positive impact on my reading skills, understanding and use of the context and all around better knowledge on what is going on in the world today.
