Nuclear bombs are fatal weapons engendering explosions that produce fireballs, shockwaves, and intense radiation and later causing a mushroom cloud to form. The mushroom cloud forms from vaporized debris and disperses that fall on earth causing environmental damage. As stated in the article published by Encyclopedia Britannica and written by Thomas B. Cochran, a consultant to the Natural Resources Defense Council, “In the explosion in Hiroshima...convection currents created by the explosion drew dust and other debris into the air, creating the mushroom-shaped cloud...radioactive debris was carried by winds high into the atmosphere, later to settle to Earth as radioactive fallout” (Cochran, 2016, p. 1). The detonation of nuclear bombs instills
Bombing two major cities may seem wrong but it was necessary in order to come out as a successful nation. During World War 2 on August 6th and 9th of 1945 the United States was the first country to use an atomic device against an enemy. This enemy was the country of Japan. After the Japanese killed thousands of U.S soldiers with their ruthless and unexpected attack on Pearl Harbour the United States released two atomic bombs on their two major cities. These cities were known as Nagasaki and Hiroshima. After the bombs were dropped the war was put to an end. The use of the atomic bombs is a widely debated topic on whether their use was necessary or not. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were not only necessary to end the war but it was also necessary because many American lives were lost.
During 1941 through 1945 a war had occurred in the Pacific between the Americans and the Japanese this war was called The Pacific Theater. This war was also being fought during the duration of another World War against Germany and Japan but on May 8, 1945 Germany surrendered to the allied powers leaving Japan to still be dealt with. However Japan would not surrender even after the major battles between the Americans and Japanese in Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The Americans then came to conclusion to try and get to a new military weapon which then started the ManHattan Project. The Manhattan Project established a new powerful military weapon known as the Atomic Bomb. This new entirely militarized weapon was designed to force Japan into surrendering because Japan was still willing to fight even though they were on a brink of defeat and they were
The atomic bombs might have killed thousands, but the bombs also saved millions. Before the war even started Japan had a grudge on America for cutting off of their oil supplies. Germany lost to the allies after hitter committed suicide. Japan was the last remain axis power. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, America had a right to join the war and get revenge. When America dropped the bombs, they did their best not to harm many civilians. Also they saved more lives than they took. The atomic bomb was the best way toned the war efficiently.
In 1945, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor without a warning and killed about 2,400 Americans. Later in 1945, the Americans attacked Hiroshima without a warning. The Americans also bombed Nagasaki, but the Japanese were warned and were given three days to evacuate or surrender. The United States’ decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a military measure to destroy the Japanese military, force Japan’s surrender, and save American lives.
On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped the Atomic Bomb “Little Boy” on Hiroshima. On August 9, 1945, the United States dropped a second atomic bomb “Fat Man” on Nagasaki. The first bomb was dropped to scare the Japanese into surrendering when it didn’t work the second bomb was dropped causing destruction and the surrender of Japan. In a time of need and anguish, Harry S Truman made the courageous decision to drop the first atomic bombs on the Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The big question is whether America was justified in dropping the bombs and it was because it would help stop the war, save American lives, and avenge those who were sadly murdered or hurt in the process.
There are three main reasons as to why the atomic bomb should have been dropped on Japan. The main reason behind the atomic bomb being used is that Japan failed to respond to the Potsdam Declaration. President Truman also knew that the american public wanted the war to end soon. Within his knowledge was the admittedly high american casualties. To meet the demands of the public and to minimize further american casualties, president Truman made his decision. The atomic bomb was to be dropped on Japan.
Another criteria necessary for a country to drop an atomic bomb on the target country is the target country refuses to back down otherwise. During World War II, Japan had no intentions to surrender or make peace with the United States, nor the Allies. The only reason Japan did eventually surrender was due to the atomic bombings. The Allied powers had cryptographers decoding Japanese military messages. After much study, the cryptography team found messages that clearly indicated the Japanese had no intention of surrender.
Secretary of War, Stimson was able to raise the possible outcomes that will come from the use of the bomb on non-combatants. It would taint the United States ‘international standing and reputation” . However, Truman did not take the location of the city into consideration. Furthermore, he was not particularly concern with the targets because he believed the air force would take of that. He left that to the military officials that were in charge of the operation, but he wanted to women or children to get hurt in the process. Ultimately, Truman trusted his officials in the matters of the atomic bomb. He’s faith in his official determined the consequences that would erupt.
The United States made a critical decision to use the atomic bomb not once, but twice, during World War II. This decision was dangerous and reckless, in my opinion. The use of the atomic bomb brought many innocent lives to a tragic and inhumane end. There are several alternatives the United States could have considered over using this weapon of mass destruction to make their presence known during the war.
They release great amounts of energy in the form of blast, heat and radiation. No acceptable humanitarian response is possible. In addition to causing millions of deaths, a nuclear war involving around 100 or so Hiroshima sized weapons would disrupt the global climate and agriculture so much that more than hundreds of millions of people would be at risk of famine.(Arguments for nuclear abolition)
A atomic bomb is a weapon with great explosive power that results from the sudden release of energy upon the splitting, or fission, of the nuclei of a heavy element such as plutonium or uranium. The first atomic bomb was 3m long, 70 cm in diameter and weighted 4,080 kilograms, it was known as 'Little Boy." The second bomb, known as 'Fat Man' was 3.2m long, 1.5 meters in diameter and weighted 4,500 kilograms.
Nuclear weapons don’t explode on impact, they detonate in the air hence, mushroom clouds are created. The mushroom cloud is the radioactive particles from the bomb. The obvious answer to fix nuclear weapons is to get rid of them all but we all know that is unlikely. The United States wouldn’t even bare the idea of getting rid of their nuclear capabilities. “The United States may have had 27,519 warheads in 1975, but today that 's down to an estimated 4,480”(Szondy). Neither are some other countries because they are a defense mechanism as well. Nuclear weapons should detonate once upon hitting a surface. Not all radiation can penetrate walls this concept would inflect less damage on the foundation of buildings, but the bomb will still be effective. That would prevent the radioactive particles from being swept across nations or oceans.
An atomic bomb is a bomb whose violent explosive power is due to the sudden release of energy resulting from the splitting of nuclei of a heavy chemical element (as plutonium or uranium) by neutrons in a very rapid chain reaction —called also atom bomb. 2 : a nuclear weapon (as a hydrogen bomb)
We live in the atomic age, where new scientific knowledge provides man with the necessary tools to survive but also the tools to end themselves. The nuclear age began with the development of two bombs; The Little Boy and Fat Man. Although these bombs were of a scientific breakthrough, they had an original problem to solve. The original problem at hand was World War 2 and the threat of Nazi scientists being able to develop an atomic bomb or weapon of mass destruction before the Allies could. This problem was global because of the many countries all over the world were involved with this war. The original purpose was to win the war against Germany and to prevent Adolf Hitler from obtaining nuclear weapons to use against the allies during the
One of the foremost growing concerns in the modern globalized world is the increasing rate of nuclear proliferation. Coupled with the burgeoning number of nuclear devices is the threat of a terrorist possibly obtaining a weapon of such magnitude. While one could argue that the rising number of states with nuclear capability is a disturbing prospect, particularly as many pursue such capabilities without the approval of the “traditional” nuclear powers, terrorists in possession of nuclear arms presents the most horrific outlook concerning nuclear proliferation. Terrorist groups, unlike states, are not organized governmental bodies, which complicates any means of formalized diplomacy or negotiation. Furthermore, unlike as compared to a
