As graduation is approaching, choosing a career does as well. After high school, I hope to attend college and study nursing. I plan to be a certified nursing assistant. Making a career out of this will not only bring me good income but I will actually enjoy it. Being a nurse requires hard work, many qualities, and good health. First of all, in order to be a nurse I will need to put in a lot of hard work. This job occupation will require at least four years of college study. I will have to study hard to make good grades to pass the classes and get my degree. I will also have to work hard on the job. Most of my time will be dedicated to my studies and eventually the job itself. Secondly, many qualities are needed to be a registered nurse.
The career that I plan on pursing would hands down have to be Certified Nursing Assistant. Some people may wonder why I decided to settle with this profession so I guess we’ll just have to take a walk down memory lane. Ever since I was a little girl I love watching nurses work. I never really realized how much I wanted to be a Certified Nursing Assistant until my grandmother took sick at home she had home aids come and see her routinely. I watched my grandmother struggle with her health issues and I also watched how caring and proficient the nurses were towards my grandmother. The concept of nurse residency programs is not by any means a new concept. Programs have been grounded on Benner’s theory of novice to expert. Benner established the notation that nurses develop skills and understanding of job skills over time through an education also with hands on experiences. She noted a nurse passes through five levels of proficiency: novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert and was generally reached only after years of gaining experience as a practicing nurse. A nurse residency can facilitate new nurse graduates to transition smoothly through the levels and sometimes even more quickly. As a new graduate a nurse residency program is very appealing, not only does it help mentor you through novice period but also helps develop competent nurses for the organization.
I am Amanda Selich, 27 years old, and have been living in San Francisco for roughly 10 years. I grew up in the East Bay with my 3 siblings and was raised by a single father. Much of my childhood was spent taking care of my younger siblings. This responsibility was so demanding I was forced to drop out of high school and become their “surrogate mother”. However at the age of 24 I was able to get my GED and finally attend college. In fact this past May I graduated from City College of San Francisco with highest honors in Science and Math.

For this research paper, the career field that was chosen was ‘pediatric nursing’. Many people would choose this particular career for their love of wellness and of people. Many just love seeing the smile on children’s faces when they say that they feel so much better. People would also choose this career path because of some lifelong skill of dealing with adolescents and children, possibly being an elder child, which is a very important quality of pediatric nurses. Overall, when most people know and feel that someone is well and is happy, it would just make them so glad that they’ve done something to help them in their path to becoming happy and healthy again.
I experience two great learning opportunities, where my preceptor helped me understand how population requires unique care, different from inpatient nursing. The first example was of a mother who brings her disable son to the clinic and was having problems with the visiting nurse not showing up to the appointments on time. The mother explained that she works fulltime, attend school and do not have a home health aide all day. Her son is disable and so is her husband. When she provides the time for the visiting nurse to come to the house, she must be on time and not consistently late. As she is unable to sit around waiting to open the door, as the nurse is constantly late and keeps missing the scheduled time. The now causes the mother to have

Certification is a voluntary process that requires nurses to obtain additional education and exhibit proficiency in a specific area of clinical practice for the purpose of protecting the public (Cherry & Jacob, 2017). According to Fritter and Shimp (2016), the benefits of certification include eligibility for job opportunities, personal satisfaction, increased pay, and an enhanced reputation. Not to mention, research suggests that nurses who achieve certification stay in the field longer than those who do not, as well as allowing organizations to earn Magnet status (Fritter & Shimp, 2016). The first certifications were issued by many specialty nursing organizations (Cherry & Jacob, 2017). To organize and structure the programs, American Nurses Credentialing Center was established in 1990, and is the organization responsible for issuing certification for nurses today (Cherry & Jacob, 2017).
Nursing has become a harder profession to get into. It is one of the most rewarding professions out there in the world. A patient wants to be reassured that the person taking care of them knows what they are talking about, and know what to do when the time comes. Nursing is more than just helping people get better. It is a livelihood that a registered nurse can be proud of achieving.
Nursing is just a way you can show love, care, and help towards people you might not even know but you will get the wonderful chance of meeting them. A nurse has so many different ways of showing kindness towards everyone and it's great to see people get better because of them. I will continue my college education at South Piedmont Community College to get my degree in nursing. While trying to get the rest of my education of a nursing degree I will get a part time job at the hospital until I can get my full time job as a nurse. Also having a job outside of the hospital would be nice to help pay for my debt and other everyday
I believe that nursing is both and art and a science consisting of psychosocial and biological sciences that work together to continually improve the health care field. I believe that with the knowledge and clinical experience from the TVCC ADN program I will be able to provide the best care possible to the people in the community. As a nurse it is important to carry the attributes of being caring, compassionate, understanding, non judgmental, realistic, open-minded, honest, ethical, and moral. I also feel that it is important to maintain sensitivity to all cultures when providing care.
The orientation process for new hires lasts six weeks. The new nurse attends nursing orientation for one week and then is assign a preceptor on the unit for each shift. The DPCS introduces the new employee to their preceptor. This nurse works three weeks on the day shift, one week on the evening shift and one week on the night shift working with both medically acute rehabilitation patients and surgical patients. Nurses receive extra days of their orientation with patients that the nurse has limited clinical experience such as a nurse with postoperative experience will work more with the medically acute rehabilitation patients to practice new skills. For new graduates their orientation is individualize and can last from 8-16 weeks.
My ultimate career goal is to become a certified nurse midwife. I want to help people make decisions about their sexual and reproductive health that best reflect their personal needs and desires. In order to achieve my goal, I would first like to work as a labor and delivery nurse or as an RN in an obstetrical-gynecological clinic.
