I believe that I am prepared to face the challenges and demands of the nursing program at Sumner College. Nursing programs are intensive and demanding which require a lot of study time and good study skills, both of which I have. Nursing is my passion, so classes and clinicals will be a pleasure for me. I’m determined to do the very best that I can to meet and exceed the goals that I and Sumner College has set forth to be an RN student. Five years ago I went to Clackamas Community College and spoke to a counselor about their nursing program. At the time I was working part-time and had a Junior high student and an elementary school student at home. My husband worked full time but didn’t make a lot of money. We struggled to make ends meet. The process that I would have gone through to apply for their program was extensive and expensive, adding up the time and cost of the prerequisites for the program, and it was just too much for me. I looked at the other programs they offered, and found interest in the Radiology Tech program at PCC. Again, prerequisites and length of the program were not going to be easy for me. I loved what I did but wanted to do more. Then later on my husband got a very well paying job, the kids grew up a bit and I began to think I could go back to school, become a nurse, do more professionally and earn better pay doing it. Then I found Sumner, Yes, I would go back. I had to pass another test. The TEAS test. I wondered if I could do it. It had been two years since I finished school. I bought the study guide, studied hard the way that I know works for me. The TEAS test would be my sign if I could handle the work of a nursing program.
