When I arrive to the Trauma ICU 4800 unit, all of the nurses were already being followed by other students. The nurse in charge had me follow several different nurses, so I was able to observed several different patient cases. The first patient had received a triple bypass open-heart surgery. The patient had received a creatinine blood test. The patient had a dialysis machine next to them, which was used to function as the kidneys since the patient’s kidneys were not functioning correctly. Also, the patient’s body temperature was lowered from having a taken cool liquids so the nurses were keeping him warm with a bair hugger, which was a machine that helped regulate the patient's’ body temperatures. There was another patient in the trauma
I have scheduled an interview and time to observe a nurse leader with the Director of Nursing (DON) for the Virginian Nursing and Rehab facility in Fairfax, Virginia for Thursday October 2, 2014 at 7:30am. I plan on spending a full eight-hour shift with the nurse leader observing the following three leadership activities: 1) Observing her making rounds on the units 2) Observing and or participating in a nursing leadership meeting and 3) Observing the facility’s interdisciplinary team meeting.
The health care industry is experiencing a surge in the number of baby-boomers needing health care and increased demands on the physicians providing the care. This trend has made the role of Advanced practice providers more important (cite). It is imperative to understand the differences and similarities in the advanced practice provider roles as it pertains to healthcare. This paper will identify specialty nursing roles including advanced practice registered nurses (APRN). It will further compare and contrast the advanced practice nurse (APN) and physician assistant (PA) roles in practice.

Nursing, as the largest health care profession in the United States, plays a tremendous role in health promotion and delivery of care. From the 2.7 million employed registered nurses to the current Deputy Surgeon General of the United States, nursing infiltrates all aspects of healthcare (Bureau of Statistics, 2015). Therefore, as a profession, nursing must understand the intricacies of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and within its framework develop strategies to “advance nursing, health, and healthcare through education, clinical practice and research,” (Young et al, 2017). This paper aims to review portions of the ACA as it pertains to nursing, and offer an example of nurse practitioner innovation in practice.

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is an organization to advance and protect the profession of nursing. Nurses across the country are standing together in order to remove barriers that are in place. Nurses want to better their lives and others by fixing nursing shortages, safety on the job, home health for Medicare patients, allowing nurses to work to their complete ability for veterans, and allowing a nurse 24/7 in the nursing home. The ANA is at the forefront of improving the quality of health care for all.
During many years the role of school nurse was traditionally viewed as one where the nurse cared for students that were injured, applied bandages and gave out ice bags. Throughout the years the role of the school nurse has evolved into one of leadership and management along with many other duties including traditional roles as mentioned above. The services provided by a school nurse range from assessment and screening to coordinating care for regular students as well as students with special needs. School nursing requires experience and knowledge in school, public, community and emergency health to meet the many needs of school aged children and youth. The school nurse provides many services but the basic services provided include

In every organization there is always room for change. Interning at Queens Endoscopy Center has shown me that. The first few weeks interning I noticed there could be more signs up for directions. The endoscopy center is located in a building with many floors and this center is on the 3rd floor. Once patients get out the elevator there is no sign on which direction to turn to get to the front desk. There is just one door leading to another. I would like to put up more arrows and signs to guide the patient in the directions to go to. If I were to get lost by not knowing where to go, I felt others would as well. Another change that I would like to partake in would be the communication between the front desk staff and the nurses. There is a lot of confusion that occurs in this
can provide an opportunity to initiate a conversation in relation to behavioural changes, which would be essential prior to discharge would occur (Keltner et al., 2011).
One of the patients that I was helping kept asking about when he is going to be discharged. Since the nurse was still waiting on discharge papers, I decided now was a decent time to assess and talk to him for a bit. As we were talking, he told me about what he used to do and how he misses being young. He said all in all he feels like he has accomplished his major goals and is content with where he is currently. He talked a lot about his career and wife.

The nursing profession has been around for a very long time. Through many changes and reforms, it has drastically evolved into the nursing profession we have today. Nurses have an important role within the healthcare industry in the treatment and medical care of the sick. These trusted healthcare professionals continue to make up the largest majority of the healthcare field, as well as the fastest growing occupation. Nursing is a job that allows people to not only care for the sick but also to experience, learn and further their interest in the human body. This course has definitely provided me an insight to the roots of the profession I would like to pursue. I think it is important to know the history of nursing to understand fully on the problems that are affecting the profession. I believe that we cannot effectively address important issues without a foundation of historical knowledge. In other words, by examining the nursing history, I will be able to appreciate my important role as a nurse in the healthcare system. The topics I will be including in my reflection are the works of Florence Nightingale, the affects of World War II, the challenges of Filipinos aspiring to be nurses, and excerpts in Chapter 10 of “A History of American Nursing.”
