I am interested in the Nurse Scholars Program at Michigan State University because I believe that nursing is my vocation. Being accepted into a nursing program will mean more to me than a piece of paper that reads B.S.N or a job in the medical field. From a childhood filled with stories my grandmother would tell of her experiences as an Emergency Room nurse to spending countless hours of my own time volunteering on the Post-OP floor in the same hospital, I know that to live a life devoted to helping others is the life I have been called to live. The Nurse Scholars Program would mean an opportunity for a clear path to a career that I have been passionate about my entire life. My experiences while volunteering in the hospital, and leading my
Katrina returns home from Los Angeles to find a letter waiting for her from her brother. The letter causes Katrina to remember a time when her and her brother were small children. They lived on a farm that had an old barn with a third loft. There was a ladder that went from the floor all the way to that third loft, but it was old and the children had been warned not to play on it. One afternoon while their parents were gone, they began to play a game they had played dozens of times before. Larry and Katrina would climb to the top of the third loft and then jump down into the hay bin. Katrina went first, then Larry. Over and over they climbed and jumped.
Capstone Essay Two I completed my 96 hours of capstone experience at Cass Lake Indian Health Services. Although I did not originally pick this location for myself I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was able to see a lot of minor things, likes sore throats and coughs, and a few bigger things, like chest pain and hypoglycemia. I feel like I have learned a lot over the past couple of weeks and been able to do things that I might not have been able to do at bigger hospitals like initiating IV’s. This experience has showed me that my passion really is for the ER/ Urgent Care setting.
Wide reaching, nurses significantly outnumbered physicians as providers of health care often having utmost vast reach remoteness to underserved communities. Having personally lived in one of the underserved communities in my hometown Western Africa before moving to the United States of America and my life calling to be a nurse from a young age with the deep desire to make a difference. I plan to contribute and continue to contribute immensely to the underserved communities by delivering quality health care to remote regions around the world. I do volunteer service at several clinics in the Atlanta area with many well-known Emory physicians that care for homeless and underserved populations, these volunteer experiences provide me with opportunities and fulfillment to develop added headship skill and experience to meet my daily patients, needs.
After graduating Anacortes High school I plan on attending a four year private liberal arts university. I will be pursing a Bachelors of Science in Nursing leading to a career as a Registered Nurse. My main interest is a specialty in pediatrics. Following a month stay at Children's Hospital after enduring emergency surgery and a difficult recovery I decided nursing is what I'm meant to do. The nurses inspired me, and I hope that I can help a family and child in the same way that they helped
I want to pursue a career in medicine by working in the field of nursing. Specifically, after graduating from Illinois State University, I plan to start working in pediatrics to help me become a certified pediatric nurse. A bachelor's degree from ISU’s Mennonite College of Nursing is a good fit for my educational goals because of your high freshman retention, graduation, and pass rates for national and state licensure examinations. ISU has an excellent academic reputation, and because I am someone who takes my academics seriously, academic quality is important to me. After seeing the campus tour videos, looking at your majors, and learning about the Traditional BSN program, I knew ISU was the school for me. I know that at ISU I can develop the skills necessary for success first in college, then in the nursing field.
Miss Judy is the Quality Assurance /staff educator/infection control nurse at the skilled nursing facility where I work. What is most fascinating and admirable about Miss Judy is that, she has 3 job descriptions that she manages to multitask on a daily basis. I really commend her for what she does because I have seen her work relentlessly in a dependable manner. She is a nurse leader I greatly admire and aspire to be like.
Going into the nursing program at Colorado Christian University means so much to me. I have been to a couple different colleges but at that time I wasn’t sure what I wanted to go for. Now, I know exactly what my goal is and what I want to achieve with school. I currently work as a Hospice CNA, I love my job. I will be the first out of my parents and mothers side of the family to graduate from a four year college. Also, being a nurse is something I’ve always dreamed about. Working as a hospice CNA has really made me value life and has opened my eyes to nursing. I love being there for my patients and their families. I truly feel like this is my purpose on earth to help others. I feel so rewarded to be able to take care of these people that cannot
Nursing as defined by Webster is the job of taking care of people who are sick, injured, or old. However, to me nursing is not just a job. It is a work of the heart, mind, body, and soul; something that encompasses who you are and how you choose to live your life. Being a Nurse is an art, one that requires patience, a steady hand, and an eye for things that are truly miraculous. Unfortunately it seems, that not all professionals have this mindset when it comes to caring for people. While some have what many would classify as never ending compassion and love for those they care for it seems that others are only there to get in, get out, and earn money. I, like many others, have had the sadly tragic experience of having this occur to me and my
During my winter break of freshman and sophomore year as a Pre-nursing major, I returned home with the welcoming of my fellow band members. I am currently in a Oaxacen Philharmonic Band that is formed by young children and adults; however, I am not always presented with the opportunity to play with them all year long. The time that I have spent with the band, before moving away to college, has taught me and allowed me to learn how to interact with children as young as five years old. My biggest enjoyment in life is to spending time and bonding with children. The innocence of children and their charisma has brought me to the idea of one day working with them in my career.
After high school there is an endless amount of possibilities. Mom and Dad can’t hold my hand anymore; no one can tell me what is right and what is wrong. I now have the keys to the rest of my life; I’m only missing a map. When I was little I always answered the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” with “a mermaid”. When I was ten, I realized that that dream isn’t realistic. Now, I need to answer that question with a realistic answer. I’ve had an idea of what I want to do since sixth grade. I am leaning toward studying nursing, business, and early childhood education.
I am in my senior year in high school. I have an interest in the medical field and I am currently taking a class called nursing fundamentals. One day we had a wonderful lady come to school and teach us how to vision screen other people and my class got certified from Prevent Blindness of North Carolina. We go around schools in Catawba County to do vision screening mainly in elementary schools. I always have a great time talking to kids and talking to the nurses. The school nurses are amazing people and I get to learn different thing whenever I go to different schools.
From working in different health care facilities and life experiences I have learnt so much that I will apply to nursing school as well as everyday life. Working at Richmond State School where most of the individuals we take care of have disabilities and behavioral problems it can be a little challenging. I have leant how to communicate effectively and how to deescalate a situation by just talking and building a rapport with individuals. Most times I’ve noticed that all my client want is someone to talk to and have empathy for them. I have also learnt how to keep calm and work well under high pressure, sometimes we are short staffed and 3 individuals will go into behavior and you have to think on your toes and calm them all down.
Hey everyone! I can’t believe how fast winter break went but I am beyond excited to be back with such amazing classmates!
I decided to pursue nursing because most of my relatives from my father’s side are nurses. I was hesitant at first, but after starting the program and doing clinical in different hospitals, I felt really happy being able to help people. I am currently not employed, but I used to work in Skilled Nursing Facility before staring the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) program. I decided to pursue my BSN because I want to go further in my education and become a more competent nurse in the future. I see it as a stepping stone to my higher educational goals One of the clinical rotations I enjoyed the most during my Associate Degree in Nursing (AND) program is Mental Health Nursing. I really want to help those people who are suffer from mental illness
I’ve always had a passion for helping others and making them feel comfortable and safe. My caring and empathetic nature led me to a job in healthcare. I want to do a job that is practical, hands-on and meaningful. To be part of a team in which the goal is to support and comfort people would be gratifying and honouring. I dream to be a source of support for patients throughout their time of need, delivering information and giving advice.
