On October 24, 2017, at 10:00 AM, Joy MS in Mental health counseling; license eligible, assessed a 7 year -old boy. The purpose of the assessment was to collect data on how this young boy behaviors at home and to gain knowledge about his family medical history. In the beginning of the assessment, one was expressed by the way the counselor started the conversation. The counselor was very clear about the message that she was going to deliver to the parent. The counselor made sure to share confidential section. One learned that it is crucial to have all the paperwork handy prior to the assessment. It is very crucial for parents to know. While conducting the assessment, it’s important to make everything as clear as possible. It’s very significant to give a clear description of the job not just the program, but day to day duty. Furthermore, the counselor asked effective questions regarding the boy’s past, present, and future history. However, in the beginning, the counselor asked the parent what seemed to be the main issue and the reason for this referral. One feels that this counselor did a great job by raising this question which shows the parent that this counselor is very concerns about the boy’s case. In addition, the counselor emphasized on behaviors that seemed to be hindering this young boy from achieving his daily goals. Many questions were raised and the significant one that stood out to me was about the mother past- substance abuse history. The mother did not feel comfortable to disclose her previous history with substance abuse. In this case, the mother had every right to choose to disclose or refuse to disclose her past- history of substance abuse. However, this counselor continued to ask questions about her substance abuse history; even though the mother refused to disclose. In contrary, the mother chose to change the subject. One disagrees with the way this section was handled by the counselor. This assessment is for the boy, but about the mother even though Medicare requires counselors to collect the parent’s back ground’s
