Overview:
I think this was a very great book. It talked so much about the human nature and what we as humans want. One thing about the book that really surprised was how it has been in print for 75 years and still humans show the same emotions and wants, as in the time this book was written in. Another thing that surprised me about this book is how much Dale showed proof and stories of other people to relate to his findings instead of his own thoughts on it. This makes me more want to believe in what he had to say. One of the most favorite stories he shared in his book is below:
There was a girl, she loved her work but had no friends. She would always look the other way whenever they were talking. One day she decided to just go up to the girls,

It made me think about what the main goal is for humans. It changed me because it made me more interested in humans and psychology. It also changed me to think more about others instead of just myself. As I read the observations of Dale Carnegie, I not only was changed but also learned several things on how to get in a good conversation, have the right smile, and impress others. I started to follow these principles and noticed myself how life-changing they are. I am very happy I decided to read this book because it did change me in major ways. I learned some of the major things you need to do to motivate and become friends with different people, …show more content…
Missouri. Dale Carnegie was an author, lecturer and he developed famous courses in self-improvement, salesmanship, corporate training, and several other skills. His parents were James William and Amanda Elizabeth Carnagey, and they worked as farmers. One of the things Carnegie always had was a skill with words, so he had many friends. When Dale was in High School he joined the debate team and became very skillful because of this. When he finished high school (in 1906) his family was too poor to afford college so Carnegie lived at home instead. Carnegie won many public speaking contests, and his skills got better. After a few years, Dale Carnegie decided to teach public speaking classes, and they became a great success. In 1913, he had published his first book by the name: Public Speaking and Influencing Men of Business. After a few years Carnegie decided he needed to show his students more of how to talk with others and improve their social skills so he decided to write the book How to win Friends and Influence people. The book became very popular and was one of the biggest best sellers. It sold about 5 million copies during Carnegie’s lifetime, and about 15 million in all time up to now. Many people have read this book and said it was more than life changing. I definitely agree with them and here are their
A hero is someone who has concern for others, integrity and intelligence. Andrew Carnegie’s incredible intelligence is overshadowed by his cowardice and lack of concern for his workers. Born in Dunfermline, Scotland in 1835 to an incredibly poor family that immigrated to America in 1848, Carnegie began working almost immediately. His brilliance and intelligence brought him local fame and eventually brought the attention of the general superintendent of the Pennsylvania Railroad and he was hired to work for the Railroad company. Through years of working in the Railroads, he was able to become highly successful and managed to become one of the wealthiest men of his time. Towards the end of his life, Carnegie began donating most of his money to several different institutions, libraries, universities, etc. However, his venture’s into philanthropy were not enough to consider him a hero, but merely an incredibly successful businessman. Andrew Carnegie was not a hero in three areas of his life: his use of money, philanthropy, and the treatment of the workers in his company.
Did this book inspire you to want to do more research on the subject? Why? Why not?
The humanizing aspect of the book is what I enjoyed most about the book, because while I love learning about science, colorless scientific histories are rather difficult to read.
Throughout history there have been countless individuals who have come along and helped shape America into the manner it is today. Some of these individuals may have initiated noble contributions that have caused them to receive wonderful praises even after they are long deceased. On the other hand, there are other countless individuals whose contributions were not quite as great and caused extensive permanent unscrupulous effects on society. One of the individuals whose impression might have not been the greatest at one point, but who ultimately did contribute significantly to civilization is Andrew Carnegie.
He shut his eyes on the reality of his early life and worked hard to become the wealthiest man in the world. Young Carnegie published his first article in February 1882 issue of the "Fortnightly Review" British magazine in which he argued the importance of hard work. He had a little sympathy and understanding for those who failed in their goals. Carnegie didn’t engage in any social activities in the early parts of his life and devoted most of his time to work.
It is illustrated in document 1 that he started from being super poor to being a millionaire over the course of about 30 years. This shows how hard Carnegie had worked during those years. (Doc 1) Another illustration of Carnegie’s achievement is a graph by an artist named, Robert Nedronida. The graph depicts a map of all the properties that Carnegie purchased with description of each of every one of them. This demonstrates Carnegie as a hero because all the companies he owned serves a purpose of helping people utilize sources that we use today. For instance, one of his companies called Carnegie’s Oliver Iron Mining Co. has influenced how we use oil to pave the roads, to make things, and to heat our homes. In addition, he gave people jobs and opportunities by owning all these companies. (Doc
Carnegie was one of the most powerful men in America. Carnegie left a great impact on the United States, and is still known for it today. He once started from the bottom, and ended climbing all the way to the top. Here are some reasons of why Carnegie has made such a huge impact on America's people, from where he first started.
Between 1865 and 1901, Andrew Carnegie played a great role in innovation and made America the most major industrial nation in the world (www.socyberty.com). Living a destitute early life, Carnegie went to night school and educated himself as much as he could as a child (www.britannica.com). Because he could read and write, Carnegie, the only son of a weaver, became one of the richest men in America (www.myinterestingfacts.com). Carnegie warms hearts of society with one of his most compelling quotes which states "I began to learn what poverty meant." He would later write, "It was burnt into my heart when that my father had to beg for work." "Then and there came the resolve that I would cure that when I got to become a man (www.pbs.org)." The
Carnegie came from humble beginnings, but through his extraordinary vision he would become the richest man on the planet and would display idealized influence and inspirational motivation through his philanthropic endeavors, inspiring the nation’s richest to give to charities through the use of foundations. Carnegie was born in Scotland and moved to U.S with his family in 1848 when he was 12 years old. His father attempted to start a weaving business in America, but failed, leaving Carnegie to work in a mill for $1.20 a week (Goldin, 1988, p. 13). Carnegie would go to on to build a fortune worth almost $450 million by making investments and building a technologically advanced steel making process at a time when the U.S was using steel
Andrew Carnegie is known for being a captain of industry, or a business person who is especially powerful and successful. Through his work on the development of the prosperous American steel industry, he soon became one of the richest entrepreneurs of his time. Carnegie started work in a cotton factory as bobbin boy after leaving Scotland and arriving in America, earning merely $1.20 per week. Eventually, after working diligently for his entire life, Carnegie was able to build his steel company into one of the biggest empires, leading to his immense success. Andrew Carnegie was a captain of industry because he was able to turn a small idea into something of great magnitude which benefited society in a substantial way.
Andrew Carnegie was a man of business. Born in Dunfermline, Scottland on November 25, 1835, Carnegie emigrated to America with his family when the weaving business was unable to support them (Livesay, 8). Once in America, Carnegie started his first job as a bobbin boy in a Blackstock Cotton Mill (Livesay, 18). From there, he ascended to the top of the business world overcoming obstacles to become the richest man. Andrew Carnegie's story is a testimony that, in the late nineteenth century, he lived the American Dream through his ability to make connections and network. For other immigrants, this would have been harder due to obstacles put in place by men like Carnegie.
My Client, Andrew Carnegie, was born in Scotland on November 25, 1835. Due to financial problems his family moved to the United States. He started to work in railroads industry. While working there, he learned about business. By 1889 he owned Carnegie Steel Corporation, the biggest in the world. Andrew Carnegie helped established the challenging American steel industry. He learned the Bessemer process through which steel was made cheaper and quicker. Carnegie turned into a leading power in the industry and an exceptionally affluent man. He did not break any rules. With this money, he established Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh (Carnegie-Mellon University). Later, he established the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of
To me, this book has shown me the perspective of a different light. There are people who go through a tremendously difficult journey throughout their life to become themselves. I learned that people, who follow the footsteps of others, could lose their way after that person they followed is gone. I was able to see the progression of acceptance and the finding of who you really are. The relationship between Conrad and Calvin was strong to keep them together in hard times, although the same cant be said about Beth. Both Calvin and Conrad were able to become who they truly were and go through their hardships. Conrad was able to find his own path in his life while Calvin realized who he was and what he
Carnegie’s background really influenced him he came from a family that believe in learning and reading books despite Carnegie having no education. He came from the United Kingdom to the United states and he at the age of thirteen he worked at a factory job getting paid 1.20 a week. Carnegie had a rough time like many factories kids, but he slowly advanced jobs gradually. He went from
To my surprise, I did really like this book but mainly the first half. I thought a lot of the points he made were serious problems that most people don’t think twice about. As I said earlier, my favorite example was the one where he related marriage to cars and cars to kids and I think that’s a statement that everyone should think about and live by.
