This documentary was a collection of many primary sources, mainly news footage, from June 17, 1994, that showed how various events unfolded as most of the public at the time would have seen them happening. This day was already a big day for sporting events: the NY Rangers won the Stanly Cup, the soccer World Cup was kicked off, the Nicks eventually win the NBA finals, golfer Arnold Palmer plays his last U.S. Open, and in baseball an attempt is made to break the record for home runs. However, as notable as all those events are, they were eclipsed by OJ Simpson’s thrilling attempt to evade police after his ex-wife’s murder, even the sports reporters covering their respective events were talking about it.
After his ex-wife was found dead, OJ
Was Oj Simpson really not guilty? This is a question that a lot of people are thinking
Questions were asked and the trial had begun. O.J Simpson
Emmett till was born July 25,1941 he was 14 year old boy.His mother sent him to Mississippi to see his family. While there he saw a white women go bye while he was with his friend’s he called the white women out of name.He said”hey baby” to the white women she told her half brother, husband and two of their friends.Outside the house of his uncle the four men kidnapped beat and killed Emmett Till. One month later on September 23, 1955 the body was found and the four men was put on trial for murder of Emmett Till and a all whit jury found them guilty of murder.
Trayvon Martin was a 17-year-old boy that lived in Florida. He lived with his mother and often visited his father. While he had undergone some troubles, he overall was not a terrible kid. Although he was notably young and minded his own business, others did not. On February 26, 2012, the young boy’s life was taken away from him. The man who killed him was George Michael Zimmerman. He served as a neighborhood watch captain around the area where his old man lived. CNN stated that all he had was skittles and tea in his hand. Now tell me does that seem threatening to you? According to Zimmerman, he was claiming “self-defense” and that Trayvon was “a suspicious person.” Florida law states that one is granted the “stand your ground” law and that is what Zimmerman claimed to do in an act of defense. Zimmerman was arrested, but he was not charged or convicted of Martin’s murder even though people know that Zimmerman killed him for absolutely no actual cause.
In the Texas Death Row YouTube video, three men were filmed through their journey living on death row, which include: Will Earl Pondexter Jr., Johnny Raw Johnson, and David Martinez.
I personally believe that OJ Simpson killed Nicole and Goldman because there are enough evidences to point out that OJ Simpson did the crime. First of all, Simpson flee from the police and only guilty people would do that because if you know that you did not do anything illegal you’re going to be confident to face the police but Simpson did the opposite therefore that gave me a strong impression that he is guilty for doing the crime. He ran away to Ford Bronco and saying that he is going to commit suicide. Why would anyone try to commit suicide if they said they were innocent that they didn’t do the crime? Simpson tried committing suicide because he knows that he is not innocent and can’t bear the consequences of what he did wrong. They were
In the article about Emmett Till. It talks about how he was a reporter at a young age. This article compares to Tom Robinson for To Kill a Mockingbird, because they were both killed and did the same thing and same way. When Tom Robinson was on court with Mrs. Ewell it was because he was flirting with a white female. So was Emmett Till.
It was the mugshot seen everywhere. The case the shook a decade and changed the way the U.S public handles the crimes of celebrities. In 1994, then America’s sweetheart Orenthal Simpson better known as O.J Simpson was arrested and charged with the murders of his estranged wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. There had never been a phenomenon like this before. It further separated an already divided nation and sparked a conversation on the obsession and idealizing of America’s elite. There have been many depictions of the crime and following court case, but only few correctly capture the essence of the race, celebrity, and power that lied at the center of the case. Ezra Edelman’s OJ: Made in America is one of the better documentaries. Edelman’s OJ: Made in America uses technical codes, specifically music and editing to explore the “Hollywood-esque” magnitude and celebrity of the OJ Simpson murder case and unbiasly connect viewers to the case.
"You never know someone until you've seen them behind closed doors". Orenthal O.J. Simpson lived a rough life growing but, instead of that taking over his life he decided to make a change by becoming a football hall of fame, actress/tv star and later being turned to a serial killer. Was the killing done out of love or spight? Or did he even do it?
On March 3, 1991 Rodney King led the Los Angeles police on a high speed chase. Once the chase was over officers pulled King out of his vehicle and began to brutally beat, taze and stomp on him. The recording of the video taken by a witness standing on the other side of the street was locally broadcasted then nationally broadcasted. The reasons that police officers acted the way they did was because “Rodney King was driving while intoxicated and when officers attempted to arrest him, the large belligerent man resisted that arrest.” (Blue Knights with Lt. Dan Marcou ) It was already said that King had a criminal record of second degree robbery and out on parole so the officers were aware of who he was by now. I also believe that racial profiling was another factor that caused the police officers to act they way that they did. As stated by Connie Rice a lawyer and civil rights activist , “The LAPD at the time was almost an occupying force, partially biased against people of color.” (Sastry & Bates) Personally, I do not believe that the officers acted in an appropriate matter because instead of pulling him from his car and brutally beating him they should've just gone up to him and arrested him. I understand that he was seen as a threat during this time because of the high speed chase but there were other ways that they could have handled the situation. The use of forces that could have been appropriate for this situation were verbal commands, maybe a bit of empty hand control with the soft empty hand technique and if he resisted then that is when the use of less lethal force would of been used. Also they found out that in the first three seconds of the film were cut of and showed that “Rodney King rising up from the street to charge one officer in a clear-cut violent assault. In self defense, that officer struck King with his PR-24.” (Blue Knights with Lt. Dan Marcou.) Now with this new information I believe that the officer had a right to defend himself however not to the extent that they all went. Hitting King ith the PR-24 would have caused him to fall and during that time they could have arrested him instead. According to Biography.com, “The United States Department of Justice filed federal civil rights charges
I found this picture by doing a google search of the O.J Simpson trial. I wanted to use an image that captured race differences so I could talk about how that played a major role in the trial. I knew that any photo from the O.J Simpson trial would be heavily discussed on different levels and with different perspectives. With some research, I discovered that Simpson his famous tight fitted gloves was a pivotal point in the acquitting of his trial. The iconic image of Orenthal James Simpson as he raises his hands, not only to show his gloves but his innocence in the murder trial of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, a restaurant waiter.
After watching O.J. Made in America, I gained a different perspective of O.J Simpson and the understanding of how society was back in the early 50’s. When I had first heard of O.J Simpson it was not about football or him being in movies, it was about how he had brutally murdered his wife at the time and her lover. Along with hearing about how he had brutally murdered the two, it was known how he was self-centered, very egocentric and would try to talk his way out of everything which the film had stated. In the beginning of the film it showed O.J Simpson in court, being asked if he was first arrested at the age of 46. Then instantly moved forward to how his football career started. I feel like the director did this to show how O.J was before the allegation of him being convicted of manslaughter. High school he was known for football and eventually a college recruiter scouted him from the University of South California. Furthering his fame with football he was known in college for the “run”. The run was when USC was playing against UCLA. When USC was losing badly within 11 minutes O.J made a touch down making the win for USC. Finally From there the New York Buffalo’s coach recruited him where later on he had retired from the football fame to now being an actor.
On June 12, 1994, the bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were found dead at her home in Brentwood, CA. Orenthal James Simpson, or O.J. Simpson was notified of their deaths and immediately taken into custody for questions. Upon the collection of various pieces of evidence from the crime scene, all avenues pointed to Simpson as the culprit for the double murder. The conclusion of Simpson criminal trial resulted in his acquittal. There were various reasons for this acquittal. The most prominent reasons include accusations of racism, evidence contamination, and the lack of faith in DNA profiling. This paper will discuss the issues that arose with the trial in depth and offer an explanation and solution to resolving issues
It is difficult to believe that O.J. Simpson was once a respected and celebrated professional football player, sports commentator, and actor. However, his image was irrevocably shattered on June 17, 1994 when Simpson was involved in a car chase that lasted about an hour on California's I-405 (O.J. Simpson leads L.A. police on a high-speed chase, 2013). Dubbed the "Crime of the Century," O.J. Simpson's trial was a media circus and was sensationalized for a number of reasons including Simpson's status as a celebrity, the mishandling of evidence, and the issue of race.
The documentary, narrative "The Lynching of Emmett Till" by Christopher Metress, tells Emmett's story of death through various points of view. On August 24, 1955, Emmett Till, a fourteen-year-old African American boy from Chicago, entered a rural grocery store of Money, Mississippi. Because the young child had been gloating about his bond with white people up north, his southern cousins had dared him to go into the store and say something to the women working the register. Emmett accepted their challenge; seconds later he was at the counter, set on purchasing two items. What he did or said next will never be known for sure, but whatever passed between these two strangers from two different worlds set off a chain reaction that would forever
