The Brave New World is a story of a unique world that is far different from our own world. It emphasized several circumstances that are complete opposites of how people view things and things that could be exaggerations of what we have today. In Brave New World, Adlous Huxley argues that certain aspects and rules must be followed and achieved in order to have a happy life. This includes the how the society works, teachings, resources, and people whom will make the world function. The world functions depending on how the society wants the people to work. In the World State, people are taught by being conditioned as they reach their maturity for them to be able to world for the society. They are conditioned them by "hypnopedia" (page 36) in which they repeat the same phrases over in over again while people are asleep and they also "rub in the lesson with a mild electric shock…after two hundred repetitions of the same or similar lesson would be wedded indissolubly” (page 29 and page 30). In the World State, somma is the number one necessity of people to live a happy life. They uses this especially when they are feeling down, like what Lenina once stated in the book, "You look glum! What you need is a gramme of soma" (page 65). People who consumes somma would have their “Eyes shone, cheeks were flushed, the inner light of universal-benevolence broke out on every face in happy, friendly smile” (page 83), therefore people in the World State used somma to get away from their problems. On the other somma is like drugs in our world because it has the same mental effects in people. It may bad for our health and shortens our lives but they give a temporary happiness to those who consumes it.
