The Brilliance that is Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Gail Winfrey, is undoubtedly as superior leader. The type of leader mothers talk to their daughters about, the kind of leader that is one of a kind. The kind of leader that you can not even wrap your head around their strength and power. Oprah is also the kind of leader that came up from nothing. Born to a single, young teenage mother, Oprah has built and deserves everything she is now. A role model to any race, gender, or sexuality, Oprah Winfrey has captured the hearts of millions. A woman who has overcome several obstacles that have fallen her way, she is not only an entertainer but a friend to humankind.

From there she moved to Baltimore in 1976, to co-anchor the six o'clock news. Only a year after, she was removed from co-anchor, and worked lower position jobs as the news station. Oprah was recruited shortly after, and began to co-anchor People are Talking with Richard Sher. In 1983, Winfrey moved to her current headquarters, Chicago. There, she would host AM Chicago. Quickly, the show became the highest rated talk show in Chicago. With her dreams in grasp, movie critic Roger Ebert persuaded her to sign with King World, where her show was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show, and was extended to an hour. Her show was then broadcast nationally, and aired on September 8th, 1986. The Oprah Winfrey Show was at first classified as a tabloid-talk show, but in the mid 1990’s Oprah attempted to change that image. Winfrey attempted to grasp a less 2tabloid oriented format, and began to host shows on more broader topics. In addition to

A leader is someone who timelessly practice guiding others in pursuit of a goal, or desired outcome. At the most fundamental level, a leader is someone who motivates, inspires and guides others toward pre-established goals. One of the most prominent leaders and inspirational person is Michelle Lavaughn Robinson Obama, former First Lady and married to Barack Obama, the former 44th President of the United States. During her time as an attorney and First Lady, Mrs. Obama has been an advocate for women’s rights, poverty awareness, a mentor, a supporter of military families, healthy eating and has been a fervent opponent of inequality (Slevin,2015). Michelle Obama is a noteworthy because she possesses leadership characteristics that inspire, motivate and made changes to the way American citizens live and see life; she became a beacon of hope.
Oprah was a pioneer of successful women in the entertainment industry. “Oprah created a TV network called Oxygen that was geared towards women”(Harmon).Oprah created successful companies and channels that employed many and became well known in American society. She represented a strong, black, female leader who had wild success, inspiring women everywhere. I was and still am often the only woman in a room full of white men, but this drives me to prove I am capable of anything (Oprah Winfrey on Career,Life and Leadership).Oprah has become a role model and a reminder to women and girls everywhere that you can achieve anything, even if it had only been achieved by men in the past. She also proved that you don’t need money or a prestigious upbringing to have success. ”Being black, and being brought up in the South, that’s sometimes considered a handicap”(Waldron 60).Oprah used her sheer talent and skill to overcome obstacles no one else had to hurdle in her industry, making her an instillment of motivation for those who thought they could never have prosperity because of their
It is easy to presume that that person is in the position they are in because of money, connections or an extraordinary intellect. We may suppose that any adversity or problems that this type of person has encountered are on another level to those that we face. Perhaps we don't imagine that there were private obstacles to overcome, personality traits that needed adjustment or adaptation, that private insecurities or personal failings had to be surmounted. It is simplest to assume that the role of leadership was cut out for him/her alone. More often than not, one imagines that the "leader" in an individual emerges early on in life, apparent from an early age: a bright child with above average intelligence, active in all walks of life, successful in anything that he puts his/her hand to, popular with peers and admired by elders. But nothing is that simple.
Leadership Abilities can have many characteristics and meanings to a person. I took the time to look at characteristics and success of a leader to choose just one of the many leaders to discuss. Some of the characteristics that are involved in leadership is “Responsibility, Learners, share victory, Set an Example, aren’t afraid to make mistakes, push people upward, peacemakers, adapt their thinking, sense of humor, work hard, confident, promote unity, action-oriented, do the right thing, integrity, encourage, persevere, and courageous” (James River Church, 2017). One Leader that shows these characteristics is Mother Teresa.
Martin Luther King, Florence Nightingale, Harriet Tubman, and Rosa Parks. These are all leaders the United States population has followed in the past. Being a leader does not mean you must be known by the world, but it does require certain characteristics. Leadership qualities include focusing on the future to see a change, bringing possibilities to a negative situation, adapting oneself based on the environment, and communicating effectively. Throughout my work experience I have seen leader qualities in different people and situations. Leading in the nursing or healthcare field can be challenging as it is often the patient's life on the line. As a leader, it is important to be able to differentiate between being a
