Abstract Oprah Winfrey is one of the most successful women in the American entertainment industry. Hence, she has rightfully and popularly been deemed “The Queen of All Media.” She is known globally as being a successful talk show host, producer, actress, and philanthropist. She is most famously praised for her talk show, entitled “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” However, she also has her own magazine and her own television network. Her popularity as a talk show host and entrepreneur is in her power to inspire individuals to live their life with fervor. Due to this passion and commitment she was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Harvard, and awarded the Presidential Medal Of Freedom by president Obama. Winfrey is one of the most influential women in the world; moreover, she strives to see change in the world and help other people. Winfrey is a world icon and has inspired many women over time through her knowledge, experience, and the will to help others. This paper will explain why is it important to learn about Oprah and to try to follow in her footsteps, and have her as a role model for all women. According to Drew Hoover (2011), Oprah started her career from a young age; she was only 19 when she became the youngest person to anchor the news at Nashville’s WTVF-TV. Shortly after that, she became a co-host of the local talk show in Baltimore; the show was rated the highest talk show in television history and was renamed as The Oprah Winfrey Show (Dane, 2005). In 1988, she opened a production facility in Chicago called Harpo Studios. At that time, she was the third woman in the American entertainment industry, after Mary Pickford and Lucille Ball, to have her own studio. Her show remained as the number one talk show for 19 consecutive seasons. By estimation, the show was seen in the United States by 49 million viewers a week, and broadcasted internationally in 122 countries (Gerald, 2008). According to the Los Angeles Times, “Oprah Winfrey is more than a talk show host. She advises her audience on what to read, what to listen to, what movies to see and how to live” (Stephen, 1997). After a few years, Oprah and Hearst Magazines introduced a magazine called O, The Oprah Magazine, in April 2000 (Drew, 2011). This magazine became one of today’s leading women’s lifestyle publications. It also has an accreditation by being the most successful magazine launch in recent history.
