Discussion and analysis:
Planning for the future is never an easy task for anyone least for a well-established one as there are huge amounts of uncertainties and fast changes taking place in the global business environment, one would certainly be at best, to be as prepared as much as they could and of course, the utilization of strategic management can aid their own unique predicament, however, this is not to say that it would be a ‘stop-gap measure’ to curtain the unenviable circumstances but at least gives some form of direction and purpose.
Knowledge management(KM) outline many ways to help the organization achieve its strategic goals and this can only be optimized if the organization’s culture is a forward-thinking one, i.e. open, trust and flexible. If not, KM is nothing
The Office was an NBC Mockumentary that for nine years followed the day-to-day operations of a mid range paper supply company called Dunder Mifflin. The office manager was an eccentric, at times wildly misunderstood man named Michael Scott. Throughout his time as office manager, Michael led his employees through the gamut of human emotions. In some situations, in the real world, many of the situations that Michael found himself in may have ended with him on the receiving end of a lawsuit. Michael had a particularly challenging time resisting the urge to sexually harass his employees, not just the female employees, but the male ones as well. Due to the numerous inappropriate incidences that Michael caused in his own office, I feel strongly that Michael Scott was not fit to be the office manager at Dunder Mifflin.
Sexual harassment is discrimination that involves any uninvited comments, exploits, or behavior regarding sex, gender, or sexual orientation. If any type of violation is made by a co-worker, a boss, a work acquaintance, or even a non-employee such as a client, vendor, or contractor, this will be considered unlawful sexual harassment within the work environment. Sexual harassment can create a hostile and uneasy work environment. Sexual harassment includes inappropriate verbal advances, unwelcomed physical behavior that creates an aggressive, hostile, intimidating or malicious work environment for employees. Sexual harassment includes sending suggestive e-mails, notes, and
Imagine being a female officer working in a male dominated environment where the male officers tell sexually explicit jokes in the hallway. Supervisors play a pivotal role in managing a productive diversified workplace (Miller & More, 2011). All employees should feel at ease while in their work environment (Miller & More, 2011). Officers tend to get comfortable in how the department operates and expect things to continue to function in the same way. Supervisors must counteract harmful or undesirable actions or behaviors immediately when an employee becomes difficult to work with or display unsuitable behavior, which can impair the effectiveness of the officer (Miller & More, 2011). Supervisors deal with a variety of employee behavior; however, supervisors must be fair and competent when evaluating employees’ behavior (Miller & More, 2011). Change is inevitable; however, it is necessary to the growth of a law enforcement agency (Miller & More, 2011).
Sexual harassment in the American workplace has its origins in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Although the 1964 Act does not precisely refer to sexual harassment; it did make it illegal to intimidate an employee based on his or her religious beliefs, sex, and race. Later in history, sexual harassment policies were put in place not only to protect employees but also to prohibit sexual harassment in the workplace. In today’s world, sexual harassment creates a hostile and intimidating work environment for the employee. A hostile atmosphere could include inappropriate gestures, touching, jokes, sexually explicit pictures and conversations with sexual content. Fortunately, the world is evolving, and we are starting to see a tremendous change with an enormous wave of people coming forward with sexual harassment cases. This has been happening to them since the seventies. With modern technology and social media, people have more confidence to make public the accusations of this atrocious behavior in our places of employment. In this essay, we are going to analyze some of the recent trends relating to sexual harassment in the workplace.
One article covered by CTV news involved a female officer (Const. Heather McWilliam) who filed a human rights complaint involving workplace sexual harassment against her Toronto police supervisor. This case is similar to Constable Eva Hernandez’s case because they both involve women of the same rank who have to endure sexual harassment in the workplace and who have both chosen to speak out about their struggles. McWilliam was victim to constant sexual harassment over many years and was called degrading names as well as had many sexual jokes made around her. This is similar to how Hernandez was called “butch dyke” and “Niña loca” by her male coworkers. Unlike Hernandez, McWilliam also says her supervising officer passed around photos from her
I’m conducting a study on Sexual harassment in the workplace. Sexual harassment is possible in all social and economic classes, ethnic groups, jobs and places in the community. Through this study I hope to clarify the common misconception that sexual harassment is an isolated female problem. Although the majority of the cases reported are in fact male on female offenses, sexual harassment is not gender specific. Cases have been reported based on female on male harassment, as well as same gender harassment. Sexual harassment is a growing epidemic that can be controlled though proper enforcement of company polices and regulations.
While Knowledge Management (KM) is important in any business however, there is no real agreed upon definition. KM is a concept that includes the
Discrimination laws are extremely important in any type of business or organization. Workplace sexual harassment is a serious problem in the United States, and the dimensions of the problem continue to expand and thus become a nightmare for Human Resource managers. In fact, the largest sexual harassment case in the nation’s history was filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and 350 female employees against Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America. The total award in this class-action suit was $34 million, nearly $100,000 for each plaintiff. In order for employers to avoid these calamities, they must have a clear understanding of what sexual harassment is, when it can occur, who is affected, and what laws are in
As seen in the case study, a court decision may be one way for any company to legally define what constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace, but there are many ways to define sexual harassment. Everyone has different views and tolerance levels towards sexual harassment. When a case of sexual harassment occurs in a workplace, however, it comes down to how the courts define sexual harassment. The Supreme Court defines sexual harassment to be unlawful in two ways. “The first type involves sexual harassment that results in a tangible employment action;” this is referred to as quid pro quo. For example, if an employee complies with the harasser’s request, then she will get a raise. This unlawful act is usually presented in the workplace by a person who has an upper hand, such as a manager, to ensure that s/he will get what s/he wants. Employees are often victimized by fear that they will not get promoted or that they will get fired. They also dread that if a complaint is filed, it will not be handled correctly. “This instance of sexual harassment always involves another violation of employee rights; [sic] wrongful termination.” This would occur, for instance, when “a supervisor . . . tells a subordinate that . . . she must be sexually cooperative with [him] or . . . she will be fired, and who then indeed does fire the subordinate for not submitting” (“U.S. Supreme Court Defines”). What is sexual harassment? According to U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission defines workplace sexual harassment as unwelcome sexual advances or conduct of a sexual nature which unreasonably interferes with the performance of a person 's job or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment. Sexual harassment refers to the action of repeated, annoying sexual comments, gazes and physical contact at the workplace. Sexual harassment refers to sexual actions that annoy the party affected. Sexual harassment at work is a serious problem and can happen to both women and men. ("Sexual Harassment," n.d.).
Sexual harassment is any form of unprecedented sexual conduct in which the offender uses inappropriate language and actions that humiliate the sexuality of the offended. At workplaces, sexual harassment occurs when stakeholders of an organization engage in unwelcomed conducts of sexual nature, which makes the recipients (of the conduct) intimidated and uncomfortable. As Solotoff and Kramer (2014: 67) assert, sexual harassment is a widespread practice in the American workplace, and is more prevalent among women than men. This is evident from statistics that about 25% of women have experienced sexual harassment at workplaces (Solotoff & Kramer 2014: 68).
There are federal laws put in position to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. Most employees sometimes don’t even realize what sexual harassment is are when they are committing this violation. On the flip side an employee may not realized when they are being sexually harassed and when is the appropriate time to speak up. Education on sexual harassment has increased within the workplace as cases are more public and fines are getting steeper.

Organisational learning can be seen as the goal of knowledge management and may be obtained by good knowledge management strategies and processes.
