The constellation I've chosen is Orion "The Hunter", because it is one of the most well known constellations in the night sky. It is one of the few I know and can point out in the night sky, although usually I can only see the belt. Orion also has my favorite star in it; the Betelguese red giant. When I was younger, I read a lot of astronomy books, and I remember reading about red giants and how big they were. That really interested me, because it was just so mind blowing at the time how unfathomably large space is. It mentioned Betelguese, and to this day I look for it whenever I think to look at the stars. I can't find the North Star (I'm hopeless), but I can find Betelguese, and since it is part of the Orion constellation, I can always find …show more content…
The legends say the Orion got drunk and attacked a woman. Her father, angry with Orion, blinded him and banished him from the island of Chios. Orion stumbled his way to the forges of Hephaestus, who lead him up to an altar to Helios. Orion was healed by the sun god and returned to Chios to exact revenge on the woman's father, but the man had fled. Angry, he moved on to the island of Crete, and proved his hunting worth to the goddess Artemis. He earned a spot amongst her hunters (who are generally only female) and was hailed as the best hunter the world had ever seen. There are different versions of his death, but one of the first says that he bragged to Artemis about his hunting prowess, saying he could kill any creature of the Earth. The Earth heard this and sent the Scorpion (Scorpio) to kill him. Orion and the Scorpion killed each other, and Artemis preserved them both in the night …show more content…
She knew, without a doubt, that she was the best hunter, not a silly human man. Artemis knew that Orion, this hunter, would do anything to prove himself. But she also knew that Orion would reject her challenge if he knew who she really was. So Artemis was crafty. Concealing herself in a cloak of darkness, she visited Orion in a dream. She spoke to him as one of Hades's demons, and challenged Orion. If the Hunter could survive for five years in the remote forests of Crete, he would truly be the best hunter in the world.
Orion had accepted, and Artemis had watched with glee as this man had gone through hardships and strife, but eventually established a efficient system. At first, she'd been oddly respectful. Perhaps there was truth to his claim after all.
But Artemis noticed that he began killing more than he needed. He would go out, kill a small bird, and then hunt down bigger game that he did not even eat. It seemed like he was hunting purely for sport. The Hunting Goddess did not approve. She may enjoy the hunt, but she always hunted for reason. Killing needlessly was barbaric. She watched with rage in her eyes as Orion disabled his traps, knowing full well he did so because he wanted to personally kill all of his
He is actually a rather agreeable person.” Aphrodite giggled every time Percy's name was mentioned.
The Andromeda Constellation is located in the northern hemisphere, it can be seen at latitudes between +90°and -40° and is best visible at 9 p.m. during the month of November. The constellation is, also, home to the Andromeda Galaxy, that resides 2,5 light-years from earth. This constellation is beyond complex, for the myth that names it, as well for being next doors neighbors with it's galaxy, thus my interest in it.
Many years ago, Artemis the god of hunting was a good man and he always went out for a run in the morning through the woods. He always saw animals in the woods and he loved when he would see a big buck running beside him. One day Artemis was going to run 2 miles in the woods. He came to this house where Zeus the god of the Sky was living. Artemis knocked on the door and Zeus came out and Artemis couldn't believe it.
Then Artemis caught herself, If we keep fighting it will be like this until the end, we’ll always be enemies. She knew there was only one option left: Share the sky with her brother. So, she took her moon and tossed it into the sky.
Kai's ears perked up once he heard the name Moon out of the woman's mouth. He was starting to get a sense as that of what Sage was trying to tell him. He studied the woman's face, trying to remember every detail. Her raven hair had matched his and she had these green piercing eyes that resembled his own. Before he could be exactly sure about who this woman was Sage ran up to her mother.
I chose the constellation Andromeda because the back story and myths it has really fascinates me! I feel that some of the myths behind the consolations can be rather boring, but with the romance and danger all wrapped into one, I continue going back to it. This constellation is the 19th largest in the sky and is located in the first quadrant of the northern hemisphere. It takes seven-hundred-twenty-two square feet in the sky!
Hermes Reassures Maia: Hermes, the devious child he was, went into his cradle and acted as though he was a powerless infant, but Maia didn’t buy it. She starts chiding him and had a feeling he had done something
Orion is from a greek myth, about a giant, descendant of Poseidon, with the ability to walk on water. He hunted for a king, until he later raped the daughter. As punishment, he was blinded. He went to Hephaestus for help, who in turn, directed him to another god. With his sight returned, he returned to the kingdom, but the King hid in fright. He left to the island of Delos, where he befriended the maiden goddess, Artemis. He died in her service, and was placed among the start. His death is complicated, and it is unsure about how he really died. Some sources say Apollo was jealous, and tricked Artemis into killing him. Others say Artemis did it intentionally after he raped one of her attendants. Yet others say that Gaea, the Earth goddess, summoned a giant scorpion to kill him, after he said he would hunt all the animals on Earth.
The story of Pegasus finding his way into the night sky begins with the death of Medusa. Upon her beheading Pegasus jumped out and began living on Mount Helicon. On Mount Helicon, Bellerophon, a Greek hero, claimed Pegasus and chose to fly with him to Mount Olympus, the home of the Gods. Upon the way, Zeus, the father of the pantheon, who lived on Mount Olympus, sent a horsefly to disrupt Bellerophon's voyage. The horse fly bit Pegasus and caused him to buck Bellerophon clear off and he plummeted back down to
Although she closed her eyes, she did not sleep. She reviewed the day’s events. “I was preparing the Palladium for the trip back to Athens when mayhem consumed the Ravenna. My negotiations with the city’s leaders were a success.” She mulled them over. “My Pentecost, with troop of hoplites was to take me back to Athens. Now I am a captive of this very likeable king who also wanted the Palladium.” Her thoughts continued. “Why didn’t he just try to ransom the Palladium, rather than butchering the temple guardians and robbing Athena’s Temple. That was a sacrilege. I hope Athena’s vengeance won’t be too merciless. I am beginning to like this gentle King but I
The authors are trying to find a relationship between climate change, public health, and national security. They argue that climate change poses a threat to national safety and public health hence; it needs to be addressed. Currently, a majority of Americans are dismissive of the issue of climate change. The authors argue that portraying climate change as a threat to national security and public health will make the population have an interest in it. In particular, they assume focusing on the causes, impacts, and solutions to climate change will trigger curiosity among the citizens. As a result, they will want to find more information on the issue. The
The constellation I have chosen is Cancer. I chose this constellation because it is my zodiac sign. Naturally, I found it interesting to learn about and write an essay on my discovery and creation theory. Cancer is Latin for "Crab", The name was chosen because the representation of the the constellation is in fact a crab. The constellation is 506 sq. degrees and made up of faint stars.
At the same time, Artemis has different view than me. She likes to punish people instantly, and she even punish for little mistakes. However, Admetus a king of Pherai in Thessalia, who
Have you ever wondered if your employee was right for the job? Were you ever torn between hiring one person or another? Do you have that one person that fits every criteria, every trait, and always exceeds your expectations? These special people are excruciatingly difficult to find, but today, luck is on your side. When I stepped onto your doorstep, I brought with me a applicant who is made to be one of your park rangers. Artemis is the goddess of the wilderness, youth, and the moon. She is the daughter of the god Zeus and the human Leto. She is the god Apollo's twin sister. Artemis would make an excellent Park Ranger because she is already as so experienced with the wild, she is a very independent worker, and she is passionate about her environment.
Meanwhile, Zeus truly began to see the type of person Aphrodite really was, as she was always helping others. Zeus began to develop feelings for her as well as she did for him, and saw that she would never hurt anyone like his own wife hurt him. One night Zeus decided he had to see Aphrodite, so he snuck out of the palace while Hera was still sleeping and ran to Aphrodite's house as fast as a lightning bolt. He rapidly knocked on her door until Aphrodite finally answered. A look of shock crept over Aphrodite’s face and she stood there speechless. Zeus asked her quietly “May I come inside, please? I ,uh, want to talk.” Aphrodite nodded and let Zeus in, wondering about why he was there. They spent the whole night talking, laughing, and crying about their lives
