Throughout the Holocaust, 6 million Jewish people were murdered.1 million children were among the victims. Possibly the most profound defender of human rights in modern history, Oskar Schindler has passed all defender criteria in flying colors. Oskar Schindler was born on April 28, 1908, in the Czech Republic. He was raised in Zwittau, Sudetenland, now present day Czech Republic. In his life, he went through many failed businesses, only finding success in the war at his factories. He is credited with saving the lives of 1200 jews from almost certain extermination.
In the 1930s, there was a power shift in Germany towards the Nazi party. Oskar Schindler sensed this, and joined a local pro-Nazi group. He got involved with the military after
Oskar Schindler’s identity drastically changes from the beginning to the end of the movie. At first, Schindler was a greedy, selfish, and rich man, who was a member of the Nazi party and profited from the war. He also was a womanizer who constantly cheated on his wife. He only cared about making money and he only hired Jewish workers because they were cheaper. He saved his workers initially because he did not want to pay to train other workers and protected them since he believed that their welfare impacted his business. He saw Jewish people differently than other Germans, he saw them as workers, and he inadvertently developed a reputation for kindness. He did not do this at first to be a

Oskar Schindler was not one to pass up an opportunity to make some money. He marched into Poland with the SS and dove head first into the black market. He soon began to make friends with the Gestapo, the secret state police, by softening them up with women, money and alcohol. His newfound connections helped him to acquire a factory, which he ran with the cheapest labor around, Jews. At first, it seemed like he was another German money-driven industrialist but somewhere along the way something changed.
To think that this self centred man would become known for a shining moment of salvation for so many is almost beyond belief. Oskar Schindler is not a humanitarian or a force for ?good? in the typical sense. He is depicted within the film as a man that simply found himself in a unique position and rose to the occasion. Evil on the other hand, is epitomised throughout the film by the actions of those involved in the Nazi regime, in particular Amon Goeth who was in charge of the forced labour camp at Plaszow.
Elie Wiesel, who was a Nobel-Prize winner who survived the Holocaust. He was born on September 30th, 1938 in Sighet Romania but sadly died July 2nd, 2016 at the age of 87. For many years he taught Judaic studies at a university and also served as a visiting scholar at Yale. Elie Wiesel became very famous for writing his books. He started to write because he wanted to write about how his experience was of the Holocaust. His father's liberal expression judaism and spiritual beliefs of his grandmother also influenced him. Loss of religious faith is what Elie based all his books on. The Holocaust made many lives stop believing the Jew religion but some continued (biography.com). Oskar Schindler was a true hero during World War II. He risked life and limb for people he did not even meet before. He saved his accountant Itzhak Stern from death and Itzhak helped change his views and help save the Jews. Oskar Schindler saved over a thousand Jews from subsequently being sent to the gas chambers and he gave them food and work. Not a single S.S. officer got suspicious because they knew that the Jews would be working for a German cause, but on the contrary, they did not know that they were being treated affectionately and compassionately. Overall we believe that Oskar Schindler was a source of optimism and expectancy for the Jewish people. Oskar Schindler was the Moses of
Oskar Schindler rescued Jews from being deported to concentration camps by getting them to work for him. He treated them all very well and they were all exempt from Auschwitz. He got arrested on charges of irregularities and favoring Jews. He set up factories in Krakow, home of about 60,000 Jews. The factories primarily had Jewish workers. He got permission to keep his factories if he moved them to Brunnlitz. There were 700 men and 300 women deported to Auschwitz, when Schindler found out he got them released and sent to work for him. Oskar and his wife Emily both helped rescue Jews. Emily stopped a cattle car with 120 Jewish men in it and she convinced the SS officer that the men were needed for work. As a result the men were sent back to work for Oskar and Emily. Together they rescued over 1,000 Jews.
6 million Jewish people died during the Holocaust and there were 100s of camp heads responsible for killing them. Approximately 900,000 survived and Oskar Schindler saved 1,200 of them. Most of the survivors, however, were liberated by the red army one of those people being Elie Wiesel. Both of these men went through separate conflicts that tore them away from their family and friends. They together dealt with inner and outer struggle, the differences between schindler's reactions, family and conflicts to Elie's are both major and minor.
During the 1940’s Nazis terrorized Jews and other groups for fear that they would negatively impact the success of the Aryan race, while some cowarded or joined the Nazi Regime others fought back by creating safe havens for Jews. For Example, Sir Nicholas Winton provided safe routes for Czech Children to Great Britain for the operation now known as “Kindertransport” through this he saved 669 children, after the war he tried to reunite families but many perished during the Holocaust. Furthemore, Oskar Schindler created a safe haven for Jews at both his enamelware and ammunition factory by forging documents that said they had special training, unlike most for-profit Jewish employed businesses at the time, there was no harsh treatment of the workers.
One of the many important and most memorable incidents of World War Two would be the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, the Germans who were known as the Nazis, considered the Jews to be “enemy aliens”. As part of this, the Nazis thought that “Aryans” were a master race. Therefore, they decided to destroy the Jewish race, and created genocide. The Jews were put into unbearable torture at many concentration and death camps. In fact, 6 million Jews were killed in this incident; however, there were many victims who survived this anguish. One of the many survivors was Simon Wiesenthal, who survived the Nazi death camps and began his career as a Nazi hunter.
Schindler’s List “The list is an absolute good. The list is life.” –Itzhak Stern. This quote describes the 1,100 Jews that Schindler save. The list gave all 1,100 Jews life, after 6 million others were killed because of Amon Goeth and the SS Soldiers.

Oskar Schindler faced many conflicts in his life. The main conflict he faced was overcoming the Nazis and saving over one thousand Jewish People. Schindler, with out a job at the time, joined the Nazi Party and followed on the heels of the SS when the Germans invaded Poland. This is when Schindler took over two previously Jewish owned companies that dealt with the manufacture and sales of enamel kitchenware products and opened up his own enamel shop right outside of Krakow near the Jewish ghetto. There, he employed mostly Jewish workers, which saved them from being deported to labor camps. Though twice the Gestapo arrested him, he got released because of his many connections and with many bribes. Most
[War] brings out the worst in people. Never the good, always the bad. Even in the midst the devastation of a national genocide, where one race turned against another in hate, good people existed and worked to counteract the hate through love and compassion. Oskar Schindler was one of these people. World War II provided him the means to become a very wealthy and powerful man, yet he did not exploit the Jews like many other businessmen during his time. He used his money and power to save thousands. Much can be learned from what happened during the holocaust and what Schindler did to save thousands of Jews.
