Overcoming Obstacle

The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

Have you ever been scared to accomplish a challenge? I'm going to be talking about the time when I accomplished one of the challenges that I have always wanted to learn how to do. Some people that were involved or a whiteness of my accomplishment was my sister named Malina and my little cousin named Mazzy .

Starting my second semester in Modern I, I was really excited to see what new things I would learn and what new goals I needed to set for myself. I was definitely ready to push myself and work even harder than the semester before. During my second semester I set only two new goals and kept one from first semester. The two goals that I set included, getting stronger in my inversions and watching the alignment of my hip. The goal that I kept from last semester was making sure that I was coming to class alert and ready to work. After second semester mid-term, I started to work a lot on building strength in my arms. In my culture, society looks down at mental illness and when news of mental illness gets out in the society, one’s reputation is pretty much destroyed. My elder brother, Imran, was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was a teenager. My family was still living in Bangladesh at the time and my brother’s illness was treated as a secret by my parents. My parents went above and beyond to hide my brother’s illness because we come from a culture that is quick to condemn parents for their children being abnormal, my family felt very protective of the fact that we had mental illness in our family. Family visitation and guests in our home were strictly monitored by my mother and my siblings and I were coached to make excuses for my brother. My brother’s illness shaped me as a person because I realized that I needed to be able to overcome the obstacles life throws in my way in order to take care of my family.

I have had to face many obstacles in my life. I have learned that every obstacle can either make you stronger or brake you. If overcoming the obstacle were easy, everyone would do it quickly and without any difficulties. It is the joy of overcoming the obstacles that makes everything so much worth it. In my case every obstacle has had a purpose. Three unforgettable obstacles that I have overcome are my childhood, an abusive domestic violent relationship, and jail time.

Challenges and obstacles are everywhere and no matter what is thrown my way I have to always remind myself that life is always worth living. I've always been one to deal with being nervous about things whether it has been in my personal life or things just not going the way I want them to. I have come to realize that if I just focus and take a breath it relieves even more of the stress and nervousness in my life.

While the students Putnam describes come from a variety of classes, races, and levels of parental involvement, they all had a solid chance to scale the social ladder. One reason that most, if not all, students achieved some level of upward mobility was that they possessed a strong work ethic. For example, on page ten Putnam describes Libby, the daughter of a poorer working-class family with nine siblings. “Academically, Libby’s parents set high expectations for their children, and Libby lived up to them: she was an honors student in the college-prep track.” After high school, Libby served as a strong force in the town’s political system. In life, there are obstacles that we all have to overcome one way or another. Obstacles come on various levels and often it’s not about the battle, it’s about the impact of hardship on your life that results from the battle. Under one occurrence that I’m grappling with now, I know it’s something I have to go through to grow, and that it’s all in the will of God.

Prompt #2: Describe an obstacle that you’ve experienced. What does your experience show about your character?

Growing up I lived with my mother, father, and siblings. Around the age 15 my mother and father separated. I have always been the person who set goals for myself. I had support from my family and friends with everything that i did. I had a pretty close relationship with my siblings growing up even though we were all very different. I played basketball from 3rd grade up until 10th grade and after high school, decided to go away to college.

During the course of our lives, we will all be faced with obstacles. Some may be small, such as losing your car keys. Others may be large, like losing your job. However, if you approach all obstacles with an ambitious attitude, and resilience, as opposed to just whining, moping, and becoming depressed about it, they can be much more easily overcame (Harrington, 2012).

My goals are to pass all my classes of at least a 3.5 GPA, study at least 2 hours a day, and to show up to class everyday as possible. I think the biggest barrier is time and the reasoning for that is because you have to make a schedule of when you’re going to study and when to go to bed, so you’ll wake up on time to class. My biggest challenge is procrastination. This is true because I say I’m going to work on it the next day, but I usually don’t and I wait to the last-minute. I assume that I always have the time to work on it later, but end up doing it the day before the assignment is due. My biggest strength is paying attention and writing notes. I say this because I was always taught by my parents, if you pay attention and write notes,

From personal experience, any obstacle or disadvantage can be used for something good. When I was a high school senior, I broke my wrist playing basketball right before state playoffs. It devastated me and my team. For a sports enthusiast like me, this injury was a major setback. Through this experience, I became a better team captain by raising moral from the bench dispite not being able to play. Life will always come with obstacles but we must determine whether we want to use the obstacles to fuel greatness or disappointments. This paper will discuss people throughout history that have used their personal struggles and setbacks to achieve something great.

Glaring upwards at the inclination of the slope I consistently question whether I could make it another step further. The trail conditions were not exceptional. The ground was so slick that every step you take you would slide back half a step. Swirling through my head thoughts like “THEY SAID THIS WOULD BE AN EASY BOOT PATH NOT A PRATICALLY OFF TRAIL ROUTE CLIMBING THIS STUPID MUDDY FACE!!!!”. I withheld my smoldering frustration inside and trotted up with an unpleasant and desperate gait. Over and over the climb leader yelled a Jens Voigt (Professional Cyclist) quote “Shut Up Legs! And do what I tell you.” in the most preposterous German accent. Time passed by in insignificant increments as I seemed to only scramble fifty more feet upwards.
