And so on. The point is that opportunity coming from having to deal with obstacles is not a new concept. Humans have known it to be a fact for millennia. The Stoics firmly believed that you must take the obstacles in your life and turn them to your advantage, controlling what you can and accepting what you can’t. Not easy by any means, but eminently doable. We all have the ability to flip obstacles into opportunity but sadly, we all don’t tap into it. We choose how we look at things, so it makes sense that how we approach problems in our lives determines how tricky they will be to overcome. By controlling irrational emotion, we see things as they are, not as they seem. And then we are able to take the negative (obstacle) and turn it into an
Life is full of obstacles and everyone goes through different problems. There are two possible outcomes to every problem: one is success and the other is failure. Often times, people face failure and just give up on that challenge. Others use that failure and work hard to reach success. As for me, I did face failure but that did not stop me from climbing over obstacles and persevering in the face of challenge and adversity.
In my culture, society looks down at mental illness and when news of mental illness gets out in the society, one’s reputation is pretty much destroyed. My elder brother, Imran, was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was a teenager. My family was still living in Bangladesh at the time and my brother’s illness was treated as a secret by my parents. My parents went above and beyond to hide my brother’s illness because we come from a culture that is quick to condemn parents for their children being abnormal, my family felt very protective of the fact that we had mental illness in our family. Family visitation and guests in our home were strictly monitored by my mother and my siblings and I were coached to make excuses for my brother. My brother’s illness shaped me as a person because I realized that I needed to be able to overcome the obstacles life throws in my way in order to take care of my family.
As a child, I dreamed of becoming a nurse. However, my strong repugnance of blood and needles made a nursing career highly implausible. I had never set any logical career goals. Even if I had, the pursuit of any goal would have had to be put on hold, as I became pregnant at the age of seventeen. When my children were still very young, I thought about pursuing a teaching career and decided to enroll in college; however, my college days were short lived, as I was a single mother of three sons. My middle son faced learning challenges and I felt the need (and desire) to be a full-time, stay-at-home mom and focus on the needs of my children. When they got a little bit older and started
Time management is an on-going challenge that is important for my overall sucess. I currently work a full time job that requres many hours of travel. Gradaute work requires many dedicated hours of study time. Maintaining a healthy lifesytle is important for my overall well being. One challenge that I must overcome is maintaining enough sleep. One goal that I am working on to impove my sleep hygeine is to go to bed at the same time everynight and disconnect from social devices in my bedroom. Another goal is scheduling most of my work for completion before noon, when I am most alert.
During my 18 years of life, I have faced many obstacles, both internal and external. I have learned that the internal ones can be the hardest, because most of the times we have to learn to heal ourselves on our own. One of my biggest obstacles was trying not to lose myself in the midst of the chaos, drama, and depression around me.
In my life I have faced many obstacles. There has been times when I was unsure about how I was going to handle a situation and how I was going to move on from it. Although some obstacles may be abominable, I am a firm believer of "everything happens for a reason". If God brings you to it, he will help you get through it.
We all have obstacles we have overcome in our lives and still need to down the road. The quote from philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzche, “What does not kill me makes me stronger” (Nietzche, 1888) states that it is in the event or challenge that strengthens the individual, but research points more to the role of individual responses. Another statement in the article is “Approaching life’s challenges in a positive, optimistic way by demonstrating self-control stamina and good character with your choices and actions” (Hefferon & Boniwell, 2011). I’ve always heard that saying what does not kill me makes me stronger. I believe that saying because all hardships we go through in life makes us wiser and stronger. We learn from the obstacles we overcame
When I was a child, I remember someone telling me, “Obstacles do not block the path, they are the path”. I never truly understood that brief phrase until my own obstacles altered the pace of my life. In life, one is faced with trials and tribulations, which makes for an interesting outlook on life. However, overcoming those very trials and tribulations are what makes life’s outlook meaningful.
Everyone faces obstacles one time in their lives, how may we overcome those obstacles? Well, growing up in a small-town name Belle Glade, FL with a single parent of four. Education plays a big role throughout our household. Growing up seeing people getting shot and killed in front of your eyes can be a hard burden on your chest. No one wouldn’t want to experience death or death situations, and struggling at a very young age. Our community receives petite amount of help from the government. Growing up with a single parent was tough, watching your mom struggling to pay the light bill or water bill. My mother did anything it takes to keep a roof over our head to make sure we were harmless. My grandmother and aunts made me the man I am today. Of course, it was
Someone once said “Do what is right, not what is easy.” This quote means that when you do something that is harder than what you normally do you could possibly learn something new. When you learn things like maybe rocket science or a sport that you never thought you would good at you could start a whole new chapter in your life.
We all face obstacles in our lives. Sometimes the obstacles are physical and we must determine a path in which to best navigate past them. Occasionally, they are less visible, but no less real. From childhood we learn how to overcome obstacles, but as we age the obstacles become seemingly more difficult to navigate. How we choose to overcome our obstacles is dependent upon how we have found success in overcoming them throughout our lives. Resiliency is an enabling attitude which allows us to overcome those obstacles (Harrington, 2012).
At least once in everyone’s life there is an obstacle that they face and have to overcome. Obstacles and barriers are used as a way to help shape people to help them become what they are supposed to be in life. Some Obstacles and barriers can be small and could be easily fixed, however some are Big and may take a while to overcome. Since I am only sixteen I have not had many problems, and for the problems that I did have were actually very small. When trying to answer this question I come to realize that none of the major problems I had were external they were all mainly internal, more specifically myself. The main obstacle I have had to overcome in my life was accepting myself for who I am and learning how to love me for me.
When living with other people, conflicts are bound to arise. When I was an undergrad, I lived on campus with two other girls. For the first few years, we all lived in harmony. We all had different personalities, but we made it work. However, we ran into a major problem during our senior year: one of the roommates became a puzzle maniac. As seniors, we were all experiencing stress trying to finish our senior projects and figuring out post-graduation plans. One day, my roommate, Anna, brought a 2000 piece puzzle home for the three of us to work on together. It soon became an enjoyable way for us to spend time together. However, after we finished the first puzzle, my other roommate, Katie, got hooked. Katie started buying puzzle after puzzle and
“The smile on my face doesn't mean my life is perfect, it just means I appreciate what I have and what God has blessed me with” The unknown person once said. That quote really ties into the character named Quarta from the book named “The Girl Born Who Was Born With Only 2 Arms And 2 legs,” because Quarta has only two arms and two legs which is different. People need to give her another chance and stop underestimating her.
Overcoming an obstacle can be easy as resolving a fight, or as hard as climbing Mount Everest. Everyone faces obstacles in their daily lives. Some put their obstacles to the side and decide they will cross that bridge when they come to it. Others charge head on at their obstacles and defeat them. I have my own approach that is lengthy, but effective. Though I am still young, I have faced obstacles and will continue to face them.
