Overpopulation Programs There are many organizations that deal with the problem of overpopulation or problems related to the effects of overpopulation such as environmental effects. Some of the organizations that I found related to this topic are the United Nations Population Fund, a group called Population Matters, another group called the World Population Balance and the Center for Biological Diversity. All of these groups deal with the issue of overpopulation and the effects that overpopulation has on world. These groups all have the same goals of raising awareness to people all over the world about overpopulation and how it’s a serious issue that can no longer be pushed away. The first group is Population Matters who has the goal of providing a sustainable future for people. The main issue that they address is the world’s population size and the affects that it has on environmental sustainability. Up until 2011 Population Matters was known as the Optimum Population Trust and was founded in 1991 in the United Kingdom just as a local group. Since the group was first founded in 1991 it has become an international organization with thousands of members across dozens of countries. The mission that the organization has set for itself is “promote smaller families throughout the world in order to reduce human population number to a sustainable level” (PM 2015). In order to fulfill their mission Population Matters has set a goal in which they want to be able to provide access
In recent years, Earth’s issues have become increasingly politicized, publicized, and economically important. When you examine how the environment affects us and how we affect it, it’s easy to see that overpopulation is one of earths most pressing environmental issues.
The cause of human overpopulation is birth rates. The high amounts of birth rates are causing overpopulation to grow each year. Research shows in the year 2030, the population is expected to reach 8.5 billion people and 9.7 billion people in the year 2050. Developing countries is straining the already scarce resources. Intensive agriculture practices damage the environment through the use of chemical fertilizer, pesticides, and insecticides. As the population expands further, many natural resources such as fossil fuels, water, and forests continue to plummet. Lessening population will definitely solve many problems such as poverty, species becoming extinct, food shortages, water and air pollution, and even lower crime rate. High birth rates can be solved by spreading awareness, educate people about overpopulation, and increasing accessibility to birth control.
Throughout the last few hundred years, humans have built a foundation. Compared to all of the other animal species on Earth, humans are the most intelligent. We have built houses everywhere, developed a system to sustain ourselves, and now inhabit almost every piece of land on earth. Humans are smart, strong, and know how to fend for themselves. But, humans have a tendency to take it too far, and we have already done so. There have been numerous advancements over the past few hundred years which could ultimately lead to the downfall of the human race. The main issue is overpopulation due to the advancements in technology and general knowledge. The statistics from an article by Kenneth Smail show that “In the year 1900, there were almost 2 billion humans living on Earth. Throughout the 1960’s, the baby boom, there were 3 billion humans on Earth. Today in 2016, there are just over 7 billion humans living on Earth.” Currently, we have taken up just over half of all available land on this planet, and with increased amounts of people having kids, our population will only increase. Overpopulation is becoming a serious problem all around the world, especially in countries such as China and India. There are many global problems associated with overpopulation that are becoming more and more prevalent, which will all have dangerous effects on the foundation that humans have
“When we have peace, then we have a chance to save the planet. But if we are not united in peace, if we do not practice mindful consumption, we cannot save our planet.”(Thich Nhat Hanh) We as the human race have entered a new age of the Earth: the Anthropocene, a term that became popular in the early 2000s. It means “ Man New”, because of the new world we have created and the amount of extinctions, pollution and alterations in the world’s functions that has come from our expansion. Due to the large amount of waste a small portion of the world produces, it affects the whole world in terrifying ways. People that argue that overpopulation is the largest issue have to understand that it is not the majority of the world that creates so much waste
A Modest Proposal for Preventing Overpopulation of the World caused by the Massive Amount of People being born, and for making the World More Sustainable
The Worlds population was once of seven billion just fifteen years ago but now? Now after a paralysing epidemic that leads to an almost certain imminent death the numbers are just under borderline of two point five billion. It's hard to keep exact count, the population grows and decreases daily, new births of unfortunate babies being brought into this corrupted World, deaths of old beggars, starving children. The numbers change daily. You lose people, you gain people, it's been that way even before the epidemic struck. People die, people leave yet there's nothing you can do about it and in this measly, broken world we've all lost someone, whether it be parents, brothers and sisters or your Great Aunt Margret who lived down the street with her
Overpopulation is a relatively recent issue. The world’s population has grown exponentially over the past twenty to thirty years. For example, the country of Bangladesh, with a population density of 1,188 people per square kilometer, has a 1.2% annual growth rate. Comparing these numbers with the United
This question seems to be question that is asked quite frequently lately. In the last two centuries, population has skyrocketed. In 1800 the world population was only at 1 billion, and today it's estimated that the world population exceeds six billion people. With overpopulation, many problems have arisen. Some believe that overpopulation is the reason for world hunger, global population will reach crisis proportions by 2050, and some believe that overpopulation will bring the extinction of the human race. When one looks at the arguments that these people present, its quite overwhelming the amount of evidence that's supports their argument. On the other side, the evidence for the opposing
The matter of overpopulation is exceedingly complex, comprehensive and most importantly, not chiselled. The impact of overpopulation on sociology, families, religions, philosophy and especially on environment, is generally irreversible. To some extent, it can be said that overpopulation control can harm the individual rights as well.
This rapid increase in the population is causing lots of environmental, economic, social, political, educational and health issues. People should be aware of the problems because if they did not then we will be facing many problems in future. Moreover, overpopulation can affect on our health because of the factories that release toxins in the atmosphere, which led to air pollution and land pollution. In addition, the environment will face many huge issues if the population kept increasing. Many countries have economic problems and some of them live in poverty all that because the sudden increase of the population. Eventually the over use of resources can harm us badly if we did not find solutions in the near future.
From a great age, the political figures and thinkers have detained opinions, based on political, military, and socio-economic rewards, about population issues as the most desirable number of people or the need to excite or hold back population growth. In order to get a handle on population issues, put the facts of population together with the “whys” and “wherefores.” In other words, that need a demographic perspective - a way of relating basic information to theories about how the world operates demographically. A demographic perspective guide through the sometimes tangled relationship between population factors (such as: distribution, age structure and growth) and the rest of what is going on in the society. In order to develop
When the human population rises to an extent exceeding the carrying capacity, it is called Overpopulation. In an environment that is overpopulated the number of people may be more than the resources available for survival such as water, shelter, and food. Overpopulation contributes greatly to environmental damages, poor quality of life or disintegration of the population. This paper will talk about the main factors of overpopulation and the effects it has on the planet. Population continues to grow around 81 million yearly, a big contributor to this is decline in mortality rates medical breakthroughs, increased birth rates and education, this can lead to overcrowding and poor quality housing. Overpopulation is the basis of most problems we face worldwide today, like global warming and world famine. A major problem in cities is crime rate. Overpopulation contributes greatly to crime rates as overcrowding leads to poor living conditions, young adults in particular may take desperate measures and turn to crime and drugs. Overpopulation may be the single greatest threat to our planet, to the environment and to our resources. Many developing countries are experiencing this currently Every day it is a struggle
Before we go any further, we should understand how overpopulation came to be. It came in the form of three main revolutions: Industrial Revolution, Green Revolution,
Before now, our population was already concerned about limited resources and paranoia about the future. Amongst coming to a population of 7 billion came the term overpopulation. The term basically speaks for itself; we might be over populated. But is overpopulation a problem; if so, what can we do about it? Along with talking about the issue, to presenting possible solutions which may even take us back, the solution might be easier than we thought. As informed by Nicholas Kristof a New York Times writer, “In 1999, the United Nations’ best projection was that the world wouldn’t pass seven billion until 2013, but we reached it two years early. Likewise, in 1999, the U.N. estimated that the world population in 2050 would be 8.9 billion, but now it projects 9.3 billion Overpopulation can be defined as the comparison of our population and the number of resources used.” Here, I will be overpopulation, including statistics, and the effects taken on the economy. Our birth rates climb and we our population gets bigger and bigger, giving us our biggest issue, overpopulation. Many believe that expanding our areas and cities are the answer to any overcrowding issues. The more we expand the more natural resources we use. We are rapidly losing our natural resources, for not just ourselves but for the others we care about around us. A solution to overpopulation could be birth control, and I do agree that birth control could even help us in more ways than just overpopulation.
The world is faced with growing conservation problems daily, most of which are caused by an increasing population. In order to deal with the problems of overpopulation, the world needs to consider minimizing consumption, lowering waste byproducts, and keeping a hand on land management.
