Human Geography Final Essay
Human Geography Honors Humankind will always have to overcome challenges. Three key challenges that we are currently facing and require immediate action are overpopulation, land use, as well as cultural conflicts. These issues have been prevalent topics in the media in recent years. Unless we start taking the steps to address these concerns, we will continue to see these topics in the media for years to come. Overpopulation is a relatively recent issue. The world’s population has grown exponentially over the past twenty to thirty years. For example, the country of Bangladesh, with a population density of 1,188 people per square kilometer, has a 1.2% annual growth rate. Comparing these numbers with the United

The public should be warned that if they do not have enough money to support a child, then they consider waiting to have children. Family planning and government programs would include clinics and other organizations put in place to provide and promote voluntary sterilization or contraception in order to reduce the high rate of reproduction in a nation. Another challenge humanity faces is cultural or ethnic conflict. This conflict is created when two or more groups who share different or conflicting ideas or principles while living in proximity to each other. A specific example of this in our modern world is the cultural war being fought between the Sunni and Shiite Muslims of the Middle East. The two groups believe in different ways of practicing the same religion, and since the two cultures share a border between each other, conflict ensued. Cultural conflict can have many outcomes; including persecution, all-out war, and ethnic cleansing. Cultural conflict not only effects the inhabitants of the two cultures who are quarreling with each other, but with surrounding countries as well. Trade and other dealings can be hurt by
the conflict of the two cultural groups. Cultural conflict does not only damage the two disputing groups, but the rest of the world as well. There are some possible resolutions for the issue of cultural conflict. An increased police or military presence in the region
In our world conflict is an issue no human can avoid. Whether hearing about it through the news or through a trusted source, or simply just experiencing it in daily lives. Conflict in my definition is when there is a disagreement or problem at stake and an issue forms. For example a conflict can be as little as a small argument of opinions or a fight about toys between siblings, to as immense as a war starting or starvation in certain countries. Conflict can be emotional, or it can be physical, like a fight. Conflict has happened all over the world. Conflict is what starts wars and can create chaos among humans. This is similar to the disagreements that took place during a quarrel between the Native Americans and the non-natives coming into what was the Washington territory. The conflict that happened between these different cultures was both
From who stole the cookie from the cookie jar to who started World War I, disagreements immensely affect the lives of everyone regardless of the topic. Certainly, every war is caused by disagreements throughout countries including World War II and the Civil war that resulted after World War I. Arguments begin because people want their way. This can also include specific tribes and nationalities in the world wanting their rights and own ways of life. Countries need to stand up for their rights and ways of life just like people do individually, which usually leads to disagreements because everyone wants something different. Conflict arises between regions for a great amount of reasons. Because of conflict involving unbalanced power is Europe,
On Earth, there are different peoples who have been coexisting together for years – take for example some of the Native American tribes. The settlement of people in the world is such that different people who come from one tribe tend to settle in a given region where they live together peacefully and carry on with their daily day-to-day activities to improve their livelihoods. However, people from different parts of the world develop some differences between them that result in conflicts among them in some instances. Conflicts can be
Throughout history there have been a lot of conflicts between many different groups of people. A conflict is a disagreement between a group of people. There are a lot of causes that could lead up to a conflict between groups of people. The Reign of Terror and the Holocaust affects two different groups by killing many people.
All conflict has started with differences between people and/or countries, it could have been different ideology, perspective or just desire that might have intervened with someone else's and it may have caused a dispute. Since the beginning of all human civilization, conflicts occurred due to differences where one individual does not agree with the other. Many conflicts led to war which would either help the countries or empires grow or bring them to their own demise. Many societies and countries became very powerful with allies that supported them in order to overcome enemies which said that many of their conflicts originated from the bad or unhealthy relationships that many people or even countries may have had at the time. There were countries, empires, and societies together that had strong international relations that led them to their shared goals and helping them overcome any terrible relationships that might have led to conflict or war between them. In Argo, Antonio Mendez proves international relations can either create or resolve worldwide conflict.
The occurrence of conflict is an issue that societies have faced since the genesis of human beings. Take, for example, the country of Sri Lanka. For years, Sri Lanka has been torn apart by the conflict between the Buddhist Sinhalese, who constitute the majority of the population, and the Hindu Tamil, who are the minority of the population. The country gained independence from the European rule in 1948. Since then, the country became a symbol of economic prosperity, political stability and harmony, particularly amongst third world countries (Peace Direct 2015). However, this glory was short-lived as the prevalent tensions between the two ethnic groups tore the country apart. The country has endured over three decades of political unrest, armed conflict and societal disruption accrued to this conflict (Peace Direct 2015). Sri Lanka is but an example of the many disastrous impacts of conflicts within the society. The devastating and often recurring consequences of conflicts have resulted in the formulation of several theories regarding conflict resolution.
1. Cultural Conflict – clash of different ways of life over scarce resources, religion, race, land, oil, water, power, etc…
Many problems currently trouble humanity, and everybody will argue that the problems they are currently facing
Conflict Everywhere in the world some person is facing some sort of conflict. Everyone in the world strives to divert conflicts, but the truth is conflicts are essential to making us who we are. The worst part of conflicts is not the conflicts themselves but how everyone reacts to them. A lot of people need to remember the event does not equal the outcome. It it how a person reacts to an event that makes the outcome either negative or positive.
* He then predicted that these cultural differences will be a major source of international conflict in this century.
What must first be understood is that we live in a world community. What affects one nation can and often does affect other nations. As a proof of concept we’ll examine unrest in the Middle East. One of the
Communities have a various amount of ways to respond to conflict whether the problem is prime or trivial. Communities approach these conflicts in two ways, negative or positive. The communities’ decision on how they solve the problem can result in a couple of ways, by talking it out, walking away, or using violence. Conflicts can be very small that by talking it out you can resolve it but some conflicts are very serious that poor decision making can end in permanent damage or with severe consequences. Sometimes a minor conflict can lead to a bigger, more severe, conflict as a result of an unthoughtful action. The majority amount of communities deal with conflict in a negative way.
Occasionally, conflicts can appear to ignite and to increase like a wildfire, acting as a destructive raging force with a mysterious, and later forgotten unknown cause. On the other hand, it does not have to be that challenging or complicated to understand. Many conflicts can be traced to some primary areas of life, such as individual needs and desires. Understanding the way conflict begins can assist to successfully navigate and finally resolve it in professional and personal relationships. Concerning value and political barriers, conflict takes place because there are profound divisions in the society that have interpersonal associations. There are
Conflict theory is the theory that human behavior in social contexts is the result of conflicts between competing groups, as different social groups, be they class-, gender- or race-defined, have unequal power and access to power, yet all groups compete for limited resources. This inevitably gives rise to tension and conflict, albeit often of the subtle variety, as oftentimes the conflicts between groups have been institutionalized in society to such a degree that the conflicts and tensions are such an expected part of society that the conflict, and inequality, itself disappears from public sight, and consciousness. For example, an adherent of a world systems theory of conflict would point to the global competition for resources, particularly the inequality between rich and poor nations struggling to provide the basic necessities of life to their inhabitants, as evidence of global conflict. Conflict theories seek to explain the interactions of groups within society, and assert that social order is preserved involuntarily through the exercise of power one social class holds over another (Lindsey, 2010, 7). The conflict between groups is not always obvious or apparent, so it must be unraveled and examined in order to identify and establish the impact of such conflict on society as a whole, as well as individual members and social groupings.
A number of serious conflicts with religious aspects is taking place around the world, such as the Israel Palestinian conflict. The Israel Palestinian conflict is an ongoing
