This article talks about Canada’s experience with the personal information protection and electronic documents act. It also talks about what the most ethical way to get information on someone is. Studying the experiences Canada had with this legislation will help me understand how beneficial it was. It also tells the reader why such an act was created in the first place. This will help me with my research paper because it explains the rules and regulations of the USA patriot act. Understanding the act will help me compare it to the Bill C-51 that was recently passed in Canada. This article contains information on how a large portion of death, injury and disability around the world is caused because of firearms. It also mentions that in order to regulate firearms legislation is often been passed with the intent of minimizing issues related to its use. This article helps me understand the correlation between the firearm legislation and firearm related injuries. This will help me talk about the importance of this legislation and how it will help the population in general. It also helps me consider what the modern day bill C-15 was built off of.This article talks about what changes as bill C-51 comes in play and also expands on them. It also mentions that many opponents believe that it is worded quite vaguely. This article states the main point of bill C-51 which is that any person who "advocates or promotes the commission of terrorism offences in general" will be committing a criminal offence. It also talks about how C-51 could be considered an assault on the freedom of expression as it allows the CSIS to gather personal information about people. This shows a different perspective on the bill. It explains why some people might disagree with the passing of the bill which will ultimately give me a more biased view to argue for or against in my research paper.
