Paper Town : The Main Character Of Paper Towns

Our states’ department of education is under pressure to ban the novel “Paper Towns” by John Green. Critics of the book state that the book should not be taught in the classroom nor included in the library for individual checkout due to mature content. On the other hand, after reading, I believe that teachers should have the right to teach the novel when appropriate and students can read the book if they choose.

Life is very complex and often hard to define. However, this challenge does not stop people from trying to sum up the meaning of life in one word. In Paper Towns by John Green, the three metaphors the strings, the grass, and the vessel are used throughout the book to chronicle the protagonist’s, Quentin, experiences. The novel revolves around Quentin Jacobsen, a high school senior. When his former best friend and long time crush, Margo Roth Spiegelman, comes back into his life and then suddenly disappears, Q attempts to piece together the clues he believes Margo left behind for him. Lacey, the last main character in Paper Towns, is a kind-hearted person who helped Quentin during his road trip to Agloe. In the book, Paper Towns, there are many people that cause conflict like Chuck Parson, Jase Worthington, and Margo's parents. Throughout the story, these people cause small conflicts. The real person who is always in the center of conflict is Margo. Even though Margo isn't really a "villain", she is the main person that causes all of the conflict in this book. She is very well-known at her school, and she is dating the popular jock, Jase Worthington. Everyone knows Margo Roth Spiegelman.

The book Paper Towns by John Green is a story about going past the imagination to actually know somebody. Quentin, who is convinced he is in love with the wild and adventurous Margo, goes on a journey to find her when she ran away. Through this journey, he finds a new Margo, the real Margo. Instead of imagining the Margo of his dreams, who is perfect and daring, he sees a different side, like looking through a fun house mirror. Using the theme of perceptions vs. reality, John Green shows readers through Quentin that you have to dig deeper in order to know and understand someone.

In a society where young adults are consumed by superficial appearances, the desire to understand others and conceptualize life is neglected. In the novel, Paper Towns, John Green challenges young adults to consider different perspectives through relatable characters and their experiences. At the beginning of the novel, Margo and Quentin do not recognize each other’s existence. Then, one night, Margo enters Q’s room through the window, and they go on an epic adventure of revenge. The next morning, Margo is gone.

The definition of courage is the ability to do something that frightens one. Margo Roth Spiegelman is an astonishing character that displays this trait. Margo and Quentin first met when they moved into the same neighborhood, Margo being her curious self she decided to sneak into Quentin’s bedroom. They talked for hours on end and began to grow a strong friendship. Since that night, Quentin follows Margo on all of her mysterious adventures so she can try to get revenge on her cheating boyfriend. However, Margo then goes missing the next day and leaves a small number of clues for Quentin and his friends to find her. In John Green’s Paper Towns, Green demonstrates what it’s like to grow up with a moving family, arguments and many more at home issues that teenagers face daily.

Paper Towns, by John Green, is about a boy named Quentin (Q to his friends) who has spent most of his lifetime loving his childhood friend, Margo Roth Spiegelman. One night, Margo takes Q with her on an adventure,she spends the night getting her revenge on her so called “friends”. The next day, Margo is nowhere to be seen and no one seems worried but Q. Q discovers that Margo left behind clues, and he is determined to discover the mystery behind Margo, but the closer Q gets to her the more he discovers that she isn’t who he thought she was. One of the reasons why Q seemed to like Margo so much is because she was different, she was actually very wise.

Paper Towns by John Green is the story of Quentin and his friends, Ben, Radar, and Lacey as they travel go on a journey to find Margo who may not want them to find her. The theme of this book is a reunion. Meaning that the main character, Quentin, goes on a journey to reunite with Margo, who he has known his entire life. To accomplish this, he first has to figure out where she went and then he has to come up with a strategy to reunite with her.

The book Paper Towns, by John Green, follows the story of a seemingly invisible, love-sick boy named Quentin, on his journey to find the girl he has admired since childhood. Margo is one of the most popular girls at her school, but is very good at keeping secrets and hiding how she feels inside. She goes through a major moment of psychological development when her and Quentin discover a man who has shot himself. This is proven when Quentin recounts a childhood story of her, when he talks to her for the first time in nine years, and when he truly attempts to empathise with her.

Paper Towns takes place in Orlando, Florida and based on a fictional subdivision called Jefferson Park. This novel is mainly about Quentin “Q” Jacobson and his neighbor, Margo Roth Spiegeleman. At a young age, both Quentin and Margo found a man who committed suicide at the park, Robert Joyner. The novel foreshadows to the present time when Margo and Quentin, now seniors at Winter Park High School, and they are no longer friends. However, a month before they graduate, Margo appears at Quentin’s window late at night. She establishes a revenge plan on people who have taken advantage of her in  high school. Paper Towns, by John Green, follows seventeen-year-old Quentin Jacobsen, also known as Q, on his journey to find Margo Roth Spiegelman when she goes missing the night after their adventure around Jefferson Park. In this passage, Quentin is enjoying dinner with his parents, who are both therapists. His mother brings up Chuck Parson, a ‘bully’ at Quentin’s school, and she is “pleased for him” because he got accepted into the University of Georgia. The mention of Chuck and Quentin’s dislike for him ultimately leads to a discussion about human perceptions of one another and Q seeing Margo as who she truly is. In order for Quentin to find margo, he has to follow the clues until it leads him to a “paper town” which Margo referred to the night before she left, even though it didn’t seem like an actual place. Margo even said, “It’s a paper town...all those paper people living in their paper houses, burning the furniture to stay warm...Everyone demented with the mania of owning things...I’ve lived here for eighteen years and I have never once in my life come across anyone who cares about anything that matters.” However, what Margo is saying here is more figurative than literal.
