Henry David Thoreau was a stubborn individual which decided to live life the way he thought it was intended to be lived. “A wise man will not leave justice to the chance of a majority vote” (Unknown). Thoreau was an individual that did not want to be like majority, he wasn't a person that went with the flow. He had his views and opinions on certain ideas and he stood firmly on them. People seem to agree with the majority of the laws that we live by today whether they agree with them or if they dont. Im not saying it wrong to agree with the laws that are set out for us by the majority of the population, but I also don’t disagree with disobeying the laws if they go against your moral standards. When a clear act of injustice has occurred I believe it is not wrong for a certain individual to be disobedient and not follow the law. In fact I way go to the extent that if you feel a law brings injustice you must not agree with it and help to disrupt such a law. Life happens and you may never know maybe next law could put you in a position where you can become a victim. Even though civil disobedience is illegal, this action is more of a moral situation rather than doing it for selfish reasons. There a quite a few prime examples of unjust laws that were enforced. There were some people that felt that the laws were unjust and morally wrong, so they committed a civil disobedience, but their actions later proved to be right and honored. In the beginning of “Civil Disobedience” Thoreau said these words, “That government is best which governs the least” (305) he knew that the government has power to set laws and sometimes people had no say in such laws. The example of disobeying an unjust law goes back into history to the Holocaust. When Nazi Germany was still in power, the people regular citizens were by law required to give up the whereabouts or hiding places of the Jews. As in every situation there were the people that obeyed the law and some that decided that this law was unjust and refused to follow the laws because they knew in their mind that this law was unethical and went against their moral standards.
