Would you want a parent that is too young or irresponsible to take care of you, someone who abuses alcohol, drugs, legal and illegal? Nobody would, that is why every parent should have to be certified to become one. This is believed by many because it is really uncalled for to have any child be put in harm's way. Anyone can be a father or mother, but it takes a true person to be a mom or a dad.
3 in 10 American girls will get pregnant at least once before the age of 20. That is nearly 750,000 teens a year. Parenthood is a leading factor as to why students drop out. More than 50% of teen moms do not graduate, and the low amount of only 2% will get a college degree. I am not saying it is a terrible thing to not get a degree, but life is going to be a lot tougher being a dropout. Let’s say that the baby’s father leaves you, how are you going to help pay for everything that you and your family now needs without some kind of diploma? Even though it is legal to drink, it can still have it’s own effects, such as it will hurt your liver and brain; but it will do much more to a baby. Drinking while pregnant can cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), which has a group of physical and mental defects tied along with it. Some of those defects include intellectual disability, heart defects, cleft palate, and defects of the face, fingers, arms, and legs. The first three months of pregnancy are vital to the baby's growth. It is the time when the most important organs start to grow. Drinking can drastically effect that growth, so if you are planning to get pregnant it would be wise to stop drinking several weeks before.
