I believe that Columbia’s flextime policy does a better job at addressing the gender pay gap and disparities that woman may face in the workforce. In the Gibelman article the author discussed the long history of pay inequality in the US workforce. One point that the author highlighted was the need to have concrete legislation and oversight committees with clear execution plans in place to support legislation that prohibits wage gap based solely on the gender of the worker. Such committees would be tasked with examining the way policies create by companies may support the current wage gap disparities or tactics that are being used to create new barriers. Gender pay gap is a constant international problem, in which women are paid, on average, less than that of their male counterpart. As to if gender pay gap still exist, its exactness fluctuates depending on numerous factors such as professional status, country and regional location, gender, and age. In regards to gender, in some cases, both men and women have stated that the gap does not exist. Due to various countries initiatives to shrink the wage inequality between men and women wages in the work force, the gap has narrowed, respectively, which may have helped form such opinion. This changes how people perceive the ideas of women's living. For example the way confidence affects the way women get jobs, or the whether or not she lives with children, or if she is married. Even if this illegal there is still this kind of segregation between genders in America.

As article one stated, 88 percent of blacks believe the nation still needs to make changes to benefit equality, but 43 percent do not believe these changes will occur. Different races have different views on the changes for equality. Article 1 states the 53 percent of whites believe the nation needs to change to aid the fight for equality. The other 47 percent believes that the country has changed enough to support equality.
Women and minorities would also benefit from the increase wages, as it will close the gap in wage inequality. According to Economic Policy Institute, “The Raise the Wage Act also would help closes the gender wage gap. Not only would more women than men get a raise under the bill, but because women are especially concentrated in the very lowest-paying jobs, they also would see the largest increases in their pay.” (December 2013, Cooper) As a result, women and minorities would have advantages to an increase wages, as it will make them feel that they are getting fair pay for their work.
The fight for equality amongst the genders has been a long one for American women. Although during the country’s history, the government has granted many rights to women, in hoping for equality amongst genders, these rights have been poorly enforced. Many companies still pay their women workers less than their male counterparts for doing the same job because of issues like cultural bias. Women cannot seek for equal pay because of their ignorance to the specifics of the wage gap or because of the fear of retribution. While all of this still holds true, California has taken a step further in closing the gender wage gap with the passing of the Fair Pay Act in 2015 which bans pay secrecy and retribution for inquiry of earnings. If I were given the opportunity to change a policy, I would want to change the wage gap between men and women. Statistically, women make 79 percent of what a man makes, regardless of their education credentials. This percentage, however, varies amongst women of different ethnicities. African American women and Latinas earn 63 to 52 percent of what a white male would. Interestingly enough, in the workforce, the number of highly educated women are higher than men. I agree with that article that believes that the gender pay gap is true because they show higher quality information from a trustworthy source. According to aauw.org, in the 1960s women got paid 60% of the amount men got paid and in 2015 women get paid around 75% of the amount that men get paid, but since the 2000s the rate of the gender pay gap in slowly getting smaller and smaller. Aauw projected at this rate the gender pay gap won’t close until 2152, that is over 100 years of women getting substantially less than men. School isn't for everyone, and I truly believe that. However, in today's society, we force it upon everyone. If you don't have at least bachelor's degree good luck finding work that will pay you a living wage. Moreover, having a Master's would improve your chances. On top of that, don't forget to factor in being a woman and being a person of color. The wage gap doesn't skip you simply because of your master's.
Statistics that have brought much controversy in recent decades, is the inequality in wages. This inequality is not just women's wages compared to men’s wages, but additionally very noticeable among races. My discussion will address this issue from a statistical point of view. The US Department of Labor annually reports the salary figures of its inhabitants. However, there are people that although could see these figures, perhaps are unaware of the terminology used for these reports.
