In schools students have low grades and other issues. One of those issues is that they don’t have enough motivation to learn and do their work. Their attendance is poor, they miss a great portion and that doesn’t allow them to learn what needs to be learned. Some schools have a low ranking and a low percentage of student success. In order to fix the issue, some schools have created a program called money for grades. The program is about the school paying their students for earning excellent grades. However, paying students for excellent grades can result in negative consequences. Due to the fact that it stresses them they get sidetracked and end up being left behind. Stressed students are less productive and can’t quite understand what is being taught by the teacher. In the article “Paying Students for Good Grades” the author states “Paying students to get good grades doesn’t have any effect if they have no idea about how to get good grades” (Peterson). The students aren’t capable of earning worthy grades because they have no idea about what is required to earn them and that is stressful for them. There are other reasons why the cash for grades program stresses students, one of those reasons is because they end up getting pressured into working their butts off (metaphorically of course) to earn the grade required. It can cause problems between parents and teachers resulting in the possibility of teachers taking it out on the students. In the article “Cash for Grades” Privately funded programs try paying students to boost achievement” the author stated “Many teachers also say paying students for grades leads to practical problems in their classrooms, including pressure to inflate grades and conflicts with students and parents” (Flannery). The cash for grades program can cause problems between students and teachers, as stated in the article by Mary Ellen Flannery, the students can end up getting angry because the teacher didn’t give them a favorable grade. It can also cause the problem of students expecting a compensation every time they do something. In her article “Why you shouldn’t pay children for Grades” McCready stated “Though you may see initial improvement, numerous studies have shown that over time rewards dampen excitement over a task-exactly the opposite of what we’re going for.” The fact that rewards are going to end up “dampening excitement over a task” is going to cause problems because if it gets dampened students aren’t going to want to work hard in order to achieve the grade required to get paid. This is why the program is unsuitable, it is a trigger to an argument/
