Any form of abuse is difficult to overcome alone. Whether the abuse is happening to an animal or a person they all need someone to help them cope and heal. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Abuse, about 20 people per minute are abused in the United States. Animal Abuse Statistics states that over one million animals fall into abusive hands each year, whether it be domestic abuse or laboratory killings. Peaceful Paws is a program that helps do just that. Through Peaceful Paws, people of all ages who have gone through abuse are encouraged and welcome to spend time in the facility with cats and dogs who have also been abused and neglected. This not only helps people who have been through abuse, but the animals as well. Through this program people may foster or adopt our pets which allows us to bring more pets into our facility and into the hearts of abuse victims. Peaceful …show more content…
Anyone who is capable and willing can make donations to Peaceful Pets at the facility or at one of our monthly adoptions. All donations go towards bedding and food for the animals as wells as the cost to have them spayed and neutered. Monthly adoptions are held on the second Saturday of every month and are held at our facility, these adoptions will allow our program to bring in more pets since people will be adopting. At the adoptions, the Peaceful Paws volunteers sell baked goods and other things such as treats, collars, and tags as a way to raise money for the upkeep of the facility. Anyone in the community who is over the age of sixteen and has a love for animals can volunteer at Peaceful Paws. We highly recommend those who are in school for any type of Veterinarian Medicine or Zoology degree to volunteer since it is a great glimpse into what they may be doing in the future. When the volunteers graduate from college having the Peaceful Paws program on their resume can help them get good
About seventy nine percent of families around the world have an animal that they love and share their life with. Most families have either a dog or a cat. These pets are loyal, kind, and loving. We bring them into our homes and take care of them. There are some animals who aren’t fortunate enough to have a family to love and take care of them. These animals are abused and mistreated every day. The Humane Society Of The United States has made it their job to protect these animals and prevent this cruelty before it happens. They spend eighty percent of all of their donations on protecting these poor animals. I believe that these animals deserve a chance to escape these horrible circumstances and find a family who will love and care for them. If you donate you will be a part of these animals lives. You will be giving them a chance to be happy in life. You will be part of helping them find a loving
“Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats” (Pet Statistics). Many animals are rescued and taken to shelters all around the United States. These shelters provide all the resources and take care of the animals until they are well or adopted. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA, is a non-profitable organization that is dedicated to preventing animal cruelty. You should donate money to the ASPCA or even adopt a pet if able to because it provides money to the animals to give them the necessities they need, it supports the animals that have been poorly treated, and it helps get animals out of poor
Have you ever seen the ASPCA commercials where they show pictures of abused and neglected animals while the Sarah McLachlan song “In the Arms of an Angel” plays in the background? It is heart wrenching to watch and I always want to help those poor, defenseless animals. I took this opportunity to volunteer at the Town and Country Animal Shelter; a non-profit, no-kill shelter run entirely by volunteers serving eastern Nebraska and beyond. They are dedicated to providing a safe and caring living facility for pets in need until a loving home can be found, as well as helpful information for those wishing to rehome or adopt an animal. I chose this organization because they are a no kill shelter and they take in animals of all different sorts.
In the United States, about 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters every year. The overpopulation of these animals and the fact that they have no homes leads to about 40% of them being euthanized (ASPCA). This is a global issue, but the root of it can be found within the local community at The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley.
The pitch is that many pets were in need of families and most were lucky enough to get one. Many pets are left behind when people evacuate because the people don't think that they will be gone very long. They don't realize the severity of the situation. When animals are rescued, they have to find new homes and they need people to care for them.
The North Shore Animal League will first discuss animal rights and how animal abuse and homelessness is at an all-time high today among animals. There will also be various pictures and statistics shown to offer the audience insight on which dog and cat breeds are the most abused and homeless. For example, due to their small size and temperament with people Chihuahuas are among one of the most abused and homeless dog breeds. The organization will then discuss their plan to remedy the issue of animal abuse and homelessness by opening up animal shelters in urban areas in Staten Island and Brooklyn to lower animal abuse and homelessness. These shelters will provide the animal’s food, water, and medicine, which are the main necessities for them to survive. By opening these new shelters, it will ensure the animal’s safety and well-being until people are ready to adopt and bring them home.
Well, luckily, there are shelters in different places that help animals that aren’t able to take care of themselves. Did you know that every year 3.3 million dogs and 3.2 million cats enter animal shelters in U.S.? If you think that figure was huge, now imagine around 1.5 million of them are being euthanized every year because the shelter doesn’t have enough money or volunteers (ASPCA) to take care of them. However, this number can be significantly reduced if we start to make a change. With my speech, I would like to persuade you to from now on look for pets in a shelter instead of a pet store. In order to do this, I will provide information about the differences between shelters and pet stores, reasons to adopt a pet, and how to do it.
During my time volunteering, I helped walk the dogs, play with them outside, socialize them, and occasionally clean up their room. One of my favorite socialization activities is called Running Buddies; certain dogs are able to leave the Paws building area with approved volunteers to expand their social experience as well as hopefully meet someone interested in adopting them. Volunteers also have the opportunity to learn how to train the dogs, help with Saturday Adoption events, assist in the administration offices, and many other tasks. All of these tasks help make sure the animals are living comfortably and aide in their adoption. Aside from the animals, the staff benefits from the time volunteers
Thesis: The American Welfare Institute is an organization that helps fight against the mistreatment of animals. They have supported and fought for many laws to be passed and have filed court cases against people mistreating animals. This organization also helps raise money for shelters and wildlife organizations.
by taking them from owners who abuse them, neglect them, and don't take care of them. They also take animals out of centers that have them living in terrible conditions and put in overcrowded kennels and rooms. These animals are then helped with any bodily or emotional problems they might have, before sending them to be adopted by a new family. The people all across the United States who support them is where most of the funding comes from. The another funds the ASPCA receive are from other organizations who support what they are doing. To the right is a picture from ASPCA.com that shows how many shelters they own and how many companion animals they put into the shelters for adoption. Nearly 3.9 million of those animals are dogs and 3.4 million are cats. The other .3 million animals are different kinds of animals other than dogs and cats. The ASPCA have saved the lives of millions of animals and have allowed millions of people to adopt a new companion that can be apart of a family they never
Puppy mills are considered animal abuse because profit is placed above the well-being of the animals. What is a puppy mill a puppy mills are large scale breeding facilities. There are an estimated 10,000 puppy mills in the U.S. 1
Generally speaking, it is quite morose when people do not properly look after their pets. I believe it is significant to stand up for pets who are mistreated because they, unlike humans, cannot stand up for themselves.
Unfortunately today there are many cases of animal abuse happening around the world. Animal cruelty or animal abuse can be defined as the infliction of suffering or harm upon animals for purposes other than self-defense. There are many different types of abuse such as using animals for research, using animals for entertainment purposes, abandoning animals to shelters, and animal neglect. We need to raise awareness and find a solution to these issues. Animals are suffering and we need to help them.
Credibility Statement: No one really knows how many stray animals roam the streets, but it is predicted that there are more than 70 million stray cats in the United States alone. Central Idea (Proposition): By adopting pets from the American Humane Society or other important rescue shelters, together, we can reduce the amount of stray animals on the streets. It is estimated that there are over 11 million Americans that support the Humane Society. Preview of Main Points: If you adopt pets from the Humane Society,
Animals are the beginning to the best love you could ever dream of. Ever since I was a young child, I’ve always resonated with the idea of helping animals more so than anyone and anything. It had begun when I was a mere four years old, I’ve always had pets; dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, and much more. To find out more about how to help animals, I contacted Amanda Smasal, a community outreach coordinator at Wayside Waifs. Wayside Waifs is no-kill shelter located in Kansas City, Missouri which has adoptable dogs and cats, ready and willing to go to loving homes.
