I selected Pedro Nunes for my famous mathematician project, I chose this mathematician because i wanted to find out what a mathematician was. Also when i saw his picture he looked interesting and i wanted to learn more about him. His lifespan was 76 years he died in August 11, 1578. His birthplace was in Alcacer do sal, Portugal. The historic events that occurred during his life was he had contact with a person called martim afonso de sousa (explorer and future vice roy of india). And on november 16th 1529, he earned the name cosmographer. And after lots of hard work he was offered a job as a mathematician proffessor at the portugese university. Unfortunately nothing is known about his parents, but it is certain that they were of a Jewish religion. Also his grandchildren spent a few years behind bars after they were accused by the Portuguese inquisition of proffering and secretly practicing Judaism. Pedro Nune's had lots of occupations but his first one was that he was a teacher and taught prince Louis. The brother of Joao o piedoso who at the time was the king of Portugal. Pedro was also appointed as cosmographer the kingdom of Portugal. He also taught moral philosophy at the university of Lisborn. He also got his medical doctorate on march 3, 1532. Pedro Nune's had many contributions to mathematics but he is best known for his contribution in the national sciences in navigation and cartography. He was the first person to approach it in a mathematical way. He was the person who invented the idea called the loxo drome. he was also the inventor of several measuring devices, called nonius from which the vernier scale was derived. Pedro Nune's was considered one of the best mathematicians of his time. And is is best known for his contribution to the technical field of navigation. In 1496 Hernando de Soto was born in Spain. All his life he dreams about becoming an explorer, his family had very little money. His Mom wanna him to grow up and be a Lawyer but his Dad rather him be a explore of the West Indies. So he became an explorer.
Scientifically, Galileo will be remembered for invention of the telescope, which allowed astronomers, sailors and other view the heavens and seas, which fed their own theories. He used his own invention to discover the four moons of Jupiter, the mountains and craters of the moon, and sunspots. His work on falling objects led to gravitational studies and mathematical theorems which are on a basic level, physics. Experimentation was used as a means to prove the laws of science along with the mathematical theories. Math, according to Galileo, was the only infallible form of logic. If a mathematical law could be formed from an event, then it was a logical, rational event. His breaking from the Catholic Church, voicing his findings and staying with his convictions broke the traditional way of thinking that the Church was the end all and be all of all things. In the end, he was proven right for most of his beliefs and vindicated for his suppression.
Hernando de Soto was born in c. 1500 in Jerez de los Caballeros, Spain. His occupation or job was an explorer who sailed to Arkansas and was the founder of the Mississippi River. His father wanted him to be a lawyer but her wanted to explore the West Indies. He was noble but lived in a poor family. When he was just 14 he left his family to explore the Indies in 1514. His education was funded by Pedro Arias Davila. He returned to Spain as a wealthy man coming from Peru with no less of 18,000 ounces of gold. After that he settled down with the daughter of Davilia a year after returning. On May 21, 1542 he died of fever, and his crew sunk it in the Mississippi after they wrapped it up so the Indians would not follow them. About the same time half of his men were taken out by a disease also in the battle against the Indians. In de Soto’s will named Luis de Moscoso Alvarado the new leader of his expedition.

Vasco Da Gama was was born in around 1460 to 1524.He was a Portuguese navigator and explorer who lived in Portugal in a tiny coastal town named Sines. He was born in a wealthy and noble family, his father was also a famous explorer, who inspired Vasco Da Gama.
