The stakeholders of Penn State held different opinions. Some believe the university should be criticized for its lack of compassion for the victims and its failure to keep a child predator from being present and around children. Others feel that the scandal produced a witch-hunt with authorities looking to point the finger at others (Crandall, Parnell, & Spillan,
horrendous crime was committed for over a decade and was covered up by the top leaders of the university community. The crime was committed by an assistant coach of penn state university. His victims were young boys that came through his second mile charitable organization program that was established for at risk young boys in the community of Pennsylvania. These victims were between the ages of 10 and 15 years. The paper also examined the leadership role of the head coach Joe Paterno who was the top leader in the football team who also knew about horrific crime committed against these minor young boys but decided not to report to the law enforcements
The first chapter of Howard Fineman’s national best-selling book, The Thirteen American Arguments, focuses on Abraham Lincoln’s famous question, asking if everyone is a person. Are black men and women people? Are women people? Are unborn children people? Are gays people? Who in our constitutional scheme, is a person?
The Yankee’s claim was an Abuse of a Slippery Slope Argument because between the two notions of the boy being innocent and the building falling down, the former can be backed up by evidence and is far more plausible than the latter based purely off of supposition. What he should’ve done was say that if if his only evidence for supposing the defendant was not guilty was because it was possible, then his argument would not be very strong.
The statement that Strawson could change himself internally but can’t be held accountable for his own psychical actions. One of Strawsons argument for this is that one has already created habits that one cannot break since you have grown accustom to them. Another reason no matter how hard you try to break a habit it just won’t break you could work hard to try at it but you will just go back to it. I believe it is possible to change your habits that you have formed for yourself over time since with hard work anything can change for a person. It is like school if you do not work hard you will get bad grades and to change that you will need to start working hard and most of the time you start to work hard since you don’t want to fail out of school.
In the process of researching the selected topic regarding “Fear” there were many angles to consider in how ‘in depth’ the writers got into their topic. There were many questions to ask in how well the authors of the writings made their claims concerning the topic. As each author has his or her own way of reaching the audience it would be only right that his or her writing process reflect this. Each author has their own brand of emotion and logic he or she uses to reach their audiences, which in turn can affect each authors writing. Each author brings to the table a unique style of writing, one using technical/formal, one using a bit of technical/formal with a bit of informal thrown in. The third author was very informal toward their
I think the argument does effectively persuade its intended audience. The article is relevant and current. Even though there was not a lot of cited data the points that are brought up are convincing, like how Stanford has designed a curriculum to teach students how to evaluate the information they are looking at. The writer addresses the idea that many people who do not know how to find credible information believe things on the internet that could be very fake. This information causes them to look at issues and make decisions based of off these fake news articles. This idea is very relevant and even affects me when I question if something is real or not. I agree with the writer. All ages need to learn how to find credible information on the
In the Modus Ponens propaganda poster I portray John Locke stating, “If I’m using Modus Ponens, then this argument is valid. I’m using Modus Ponens. Therefore, this argument is valid.” I use testimonial in my poster to get my message across about how to use Modus Ponens; in addition, I also wanted to convey that the way I used Modus Ponens in my argument is correct. I “take advantage of the fact that there are certain people we tend to trust” in order to use “your feelings toward the famous person [to] transfer to the product or cause he or she is endorsing” (Shabo 62-63). In my posters, I have a picture of Rene Descartes, a French philosopher, who is known for having made a connection between geometry and algebra, thus allowing for geometric
“More for your dollar” is a slogan that every New Englander knows by heart. Market Basket has upheld this slogan and done nothing but give their customers a bargain for several years. This family oriented super market has had its challenges and battles with ownership, beginning in the first generation. The background is necessary when looking at a recent ethical issue that occurred in the company in June of 2014. The issue that occurred in June 2014 involved two cousins, Arthur T. and Arthur S. Demoulas, however the tension began with their fathers Mike and George. As explained on My Demoulas: “In 1916, Greek immigrants Athanasios (“Arthur”) and Efrosini Demoulas opened a grocery store in Lowell, Massachusetts, specializing in fresh lamb” (My Demoulas). Arthur chose to sell the store to Telemachus, aka Mike, and George Demoulas. Unfortunately, George passed away
The lecturer claims that a franchise is not a good option to start a business. This contradicts the reading passage’s assertion that buying a franchise has lots of benefits for people to start their own business.
In the book “Good Reasons” they start off with showing you how to make an effective argument. The first question they ask you is “What exactly is an argument?”. This makes you think critically about the definition of an argument and how you would create one in your writings. They then go over what is expected from the writer when making a written argument, such as how to argue responsibly and respectfully. “Our culture is competitive, and our goal often is to win.” Usually people are more likely to listen when you place yourself as a respectful partner not a competitor. When you can argue respectfully and not try to cast yourself as a competitor, you then make an effective way to converse. I agree with the fact that you shouldn’t necessarily
In the article, the author recommends that Omega university should terminate student evaluation of professors in order to enable its graduate to get better jobs. The argument for this position is based on some potential employers’ claim and the statistic of Omega’s student grade. This argument seems convincing on first glance, but upon closer scrutiny there are significant flaws that raise doubt about the author’s conclusion.
This article explains about the new SAT how the math section is going to be wordy with longer and harder passages. Along with, the word passages taking out the short sentence- completion for the longer reading passages, which many students claim they are more in favor for. Lastly, how the SAT is not a test based on luck but a student’s ability to take a test.
My strong analytical skills make me a perfect fit for this position. As a junior in high school, I won the Maryland debate title in public forum. This required me to quickly analyze opponent’s arguments and derive solutions to their arguments. In addition, debate required lots of research and examination to determine how to approach a topic and construct an argument. At my internship with McLean Mortgage, I applied my analytical abilities to determine different loan packages and rates we could offer based on modeling client’s financial history using a computer software and Microsoft Excel. Another attribute I can offer is leadership, which I have exemplified constantly. In high school, I gave leadership to others by founding a debate team,
Through the argumentative essay my skills in using textual evidence improved greatly. Before this essay I had never had to cite quotes using MLA format. I struggled with this not only in my works cited page but in the essay itself as well. If the presentation of the quote is incorrect why would the quote itself be? With this in mind I found the errors in my argumentative essay and fixed them. In one case I had cited Major’s experiment as Thoreau’s. This was a simple misunderstanding but none the less it takes away from the paper when a strong point was being made. The large amount of possible textual evidence allowed me to make a strong argument. With so much to pick from I could find text to match every bit of my own argument against the technology.
American diplomacy has guided and been guided by business within and outside the borders of the United States. One such state that the United States has had a hand, or input, in is Israel. Since Israel became a state in May of 1948, its relations with United States have been of mutual support. Recently, however, Israel and the United States’ diplomacy has been no picnic in the park. More specifically, the president of United States, Barak Obama, has had a less than gung-ho attitude towards Israel’s leader, Benjamin Netanyahu. The tension that is occurring currently between the two leaders could potentially lead to a loss of, or degradation of the mutual support that the United States and Israel has shared in the past. One issue that displays
