Where’s the Penn State Pride?By Sahib KaurDear Executive Board of Penn State,I once was a prospective student who was considering applying for Penn State, among various other universities. When doing my college research, the first thing that I did was look up the college websites. And as most other students would believe, the website is the main source for discerning the institution’s credibility and status. Unfortunately, I have to say, that Penn State’s website does not do the college justice. With no visual ascetics, no organized structure, and no evidence of pride, the Penn State website is at best, mediocre. When opening up to the page, the reader is fiercely exposed to a vast expanse of a bright blue hue. While I understand that blue …show more content…
“just there”. By randomly placing the video on the page, the importance of it is diminished. Had the video been placed in a designated spot with a proper heading and caption to explainwhat it means, the video would make a much greater impact on the viewer. Also, while researching other college websites, I have noticed that most of them dedicate quite a large portion of the site to the college news. For example, if you look at Tennessee State University, the bottom half of the college website is divided into two columns, one for upcoming events, and another column for recent developments in the college. A prospective student would look at the page and would feel that students in college are very active. In comparison, Penn State has allotted a tiny corner on the bottom left for news. It is sad to think that Pennsylvania StateUniversity, which has over ten campuses, does not have the pride to display all the events that go on in the campuses. As someone who cares for the well-being of Penn State, I feel that having more to show would truly represent what Penn State is: An active campus with students who actually care.Furthermore, it is of utmost significance that a website portray the “pride and glory” of the university. For a majority of prospective students, a visit to a campus is often not possible, thereby making it difficult to discern the true glory of the campus. As a result, the college website becomes the main portal through which
The movie Glory was a wonderful depiction of the group of men involved in the 54th Massachusetts colored regiment. The men of the 54th regiment were part of the first black regiment to serve in the U.S. military and were all volunteers. Lead by twenty-three year old Robert Gould Shaw these men were held a high amount of pride, enthusiasm, and bravery as they willingly fought against all of the racial harshness of the U.S. military system. The men of the 54th regiment put up with stereotypes and unacceptable training conditions - while being consistently being challenged to actually stay in the military and not desert. Glory depicts all of the issues that surrounded the 54th regiments black solders and white captions with amazing
n light of the recent news of New Orleans voting to remove prominent confederate monuments, as well as the call for the flags to be removed from any federal locations, many have come to the defense of the flag, claiming that removing it would be "rewriting history" and that it doesn't stand for racism, but rather a heritage of southern pride.
To me, being a part of Florida Southern’s Honors Program would mean more than just adding knowledge to my area of study. To have the opportunity to be a part of this program would mean that I would be able to grow in more than one way. I would take the opportunities to lead in areas such as community service and I would recognize my responsibility to maintain good character as an example for my peers. To be housed with other honors students would give me the chance to meet others with the same drive that I have, even though they may be in a different field of study. Being around others that have passion in their work would push and challenge me to step out of my comfort zone. Knowing that I can help the community while expanding my knowledge beyond typical education, I am guaranteed that I will reach my goals.

Throughout the years, the U.S has controlled Latin American countries through military intervention. During the period of the Cold War and the Cuban Revolution, the U.S attempted to overthrow the Latin American communist government due to being ideologically threatened. During the Cold War, the US attempted to contain communism by supporting dictators and undermining elected governments. An example of the US undermining elected governments is The Coup of Guatemala, when President Eisenhower ordered the CIA to remove Jacob Arbenz from presidency. For the coup, the CIA spread anti-communist propaganda and recruited and trained Guatemalan exiles and mercenaries.
1. Was the Alliance for Progress a success or failure? Provide two specific historical examples to support your claim.
The moral of the story is the consequences of pride. Achilles is a great warrior who has a clear and a close relationship with the gods and even possesses supernatural strength. Nevertheless, his pride gets in the way of his responsibilities as a mighty man of the Achaean army. At some point, he abandons his friends and prays for their destruction. He does all this because he feels insulted by his commander, at the end of it, his friend Patroclus dies in Achilles armor and, that is when he reconciles with his commander and joins the army. Agamemnon is another prideful character who insists on leading the army to battle even though he takes no real risks. Due to his pride, his army is attacked by a plague as they have refused to return a kidnapped
Looking at my word cloud, I see that I stayed on topic by focusing on the word pride. In the cloud, I can see that the words that are much bigger came from my definitions. The surrounding words were examples and description of pride. I do not see anything about my word cloud that shows something about my research. This essay tied in personal examples and a history fact. To add to this, the size of the word cloud surprises me. I expected for me to use repetition of a word throughout the paper. Something like that adds variety to the essay and shows growth in vocabulary.
The Iliad is a classic story of a Greek warrior, named Akhilleus, whose anger causes many soldiers to die during the Trojan War. When Akhilleus becomes angry, there seems to be nothing that can stop him from totally destroying his enemy. While many consider anger to be the primary factor in motivating Akhilleus, the main reason Akhilleus acts the way he does is because he is extremely self-centered.
Penn State is known for its ecstatic culture, bright students, top- notch academic programs, and most of all, next to academics, the popular football program. It is when certain events unfold that Penn State’s motto “We Are Penn State” will be severely tested. Alleged accusations of child endangerment and sexual assault against Gerald “Jerry” Sandusky would throw Penn States leaders into a state of denial. Penn State’s lack of morals and poor use of Corporate Social Responsibility by officials ultimately lead to a different meaning of “We Are Penn State”.
Our initial plan was to get footage of the football game and the events that would take place, particularly at the frats, as the night progressed. By getting good videos of the football game we thought it would both be of interest to those on the football team and could also be a great recruiting video for a prospective student athlete. We figured by adding videos of the school celebrating and partying later in the night, we could also appeal to a wider audience; college kids.

A disagreement has come up between the people of the United States concerning the treatment and use of its flag. Others have berated those that have burned it on the grounds that it disrespects those before them. Those that have observed the issue have also to weigh the situation based on further information. The people of the US are concerned about the civil war that has arisen between itself regarding Old Glory.
Look after your appearance – appearance is important, it can give us confidence or it can make us feel awkward. Dressing smart for the right occasion gives us self-confidence. Dress for your own benefit: don’t dress in the expectation of pleasing others and receiving compliments.
As I stand before you today, I am honored to not only be your Senator, but a proud alumnus of this University. It was nearly 20 years ago from today that I was in your shoes as a freshman starting his journey at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. Before coming to Madison, I had lived my entire life in southern Louisiana. My early formative years were passed in New Orleans, where I was born, before a move upstate Louisiana at the age of seven. It was a month before my turning of this age that proved to be one of the most arduous weeks of my life. I remember the pain quite vividly and am not sure how I persevered at such a young age. At the beginning of that week, my mother stormed into the house sweating and with a frantic look on her face. In a startled tone that I was not used to, she alerted that we had to go because there was a storm coming. I grabbed my blanket, as many bags of goldfish that I could carry, and some clothes and shoved it all in my backpack. While quickly walking to the car, I asked my mother in an out-of-breath tone, where we were going and she replied “to the stadium, hun.” I couldn’t believe it, I was so excited to be going to the Superdome. I remember always wanting to go to a game there with my father to watch our favorite team, the New Orleans Saints. When rushing out of the house and being buckled into my booster seat, I did not realize that I was leaving my house for last time. I remember arriving at the Superdome that Sunday morning and
