Penn State Women’s Volleyball
Six out of the last eight College Volleyball Championships have been won by Penn State volleyball. In those years they have lost a total of twenty-two games. In 2013-2014 there were just five losses (D1 Women’s Volleyball). Not only are they reigning champions, but they are a historically consistent team. Having Micha Hancock, an ESPY nominee for the Best Female Collegiate Athlete two years running, as their setter, was a big part of their success over the last couple years (The Daily Collegian). Coach Russ Rose also has high expectations for this coming season. Penn State Women currently have the most consistent, successful program in college volleyball.

Beginning his thirty-seventh season coaching the Penn State Women, most people would agree that Coach Rose has the game figured out. His experience and amount of time at this school seems to show that he is dedicated to this program and their highs and lows, however one would not expect that their “lows” were nothing close to an unsuccessful season. Between the years of 1981-2006 Penn State only earned the title of “champions” one time. This does not mean they had struggling seasons, actually far from it. The Lions still had high records and winning seasons, they just could not pull out on top other than their 1999 season. Runners up three times in that period, they were a hard team to beat yet they continued to get shut down in the post season until the year of 2006 (D1 Women’s Volleyball). Penn State began feeling what it was like to end the season with a win and a trophy. As one would assume, these victories attribute to the coaches and the players at Penn State. This is a team made up of the most athletic and talented volleyball players in the …show more content…
Coach Rose has high expectations regarding this 2015 season which has just started rolling. They are returning with twelve letter winners and four starters. The 2015 seniors had very much confidence in the underclassmen’s ability to take on what they themselves have left behind. Coach Rose believes that all the girls have progressed well, making large strides towards where they need to be. The Penn State women started off this season ranked No. 1 in the AVCA Division I Coaches Preseason Poll (The Daily Collegian). They will have six televised matches in the 2015 season, three in their home gym and three at their opponents’. They have a tough schedule, playing seven teams that competed in last year’s NCAA tournament. However they are expected once again to be the top team this year and have had a great start to the 2015 season with three wins and no
With the Christmas tournament aside, we entered the post-season without a loss. We had a plan for each playoff game from districts to regional. We never deviated from the plan, keeping our eye on the target –
“This team will probably go down in history maybe as one of the best ever for what we accomplished this year,” WVU head coach Randy Mazey said. “I think our guys showed a lot of heart, a lot of tenacity and there are Mountaineer fans everywhere super proud of our team. We made a lot of Mountaineer baseball fans that weren’t Mountaineer baseball fans prior to this year. This is a statement about our program, where it’s going and the direction it’s headed. We’ve got us a baseball program that we can be super proud of. We have a great facility, great administration and great fan support. This is not the end. This is the beginning of a great baseball program.”
Pollard continued to have a stellar game defensively as she was putting the Springers guards on lockdown this afternoon. Wiggins did not stop either with her dominant game as she was flirting with a double double. Springers through everything they had at Princess Anne, but on this day, it just seemed like it wasn’t going to be enough. The clock began to tick towards the one minute mark, and you could see few people around the Siegel Center begin to hold up fours, implying that the Lady Cavaliers were on their way to their fourth straight state title if they held on for one last minute, well they did. Lady Cavaliers added another State Championship to their legacy. This made number 8 for Head Coach Darnell Dozier, while senior Nyla Pollard became the only female in the area with 4 State Titles.
“Can the Lady Bulldogs compete with the county establishment?” “Will they ever knock off league rivals Clifton, Wayne Valley or Wayne Hills.” “The Lady Dawgs are on the losing end of lopsided scorelines.” “They need to make a quantum leap to be known successfully.” “Shrinking those postseason margins will inch the program towards respectability.” These were all the main headlines on the North Jersey website about my team.
As was the case in the win against Southwestern on Friday, the Ladies made the Mountaineers
The Lady Mustang volleyball team has the expectation bar set pretty high this year. Having only graduated one senior, the volleyball team consists of a lot of returning players from last year, whose hopes for this season are even higher than last. When asked what this season has in store for the lady mustangs, senior Bay Brunson commented, “I’m looking forward the making lots of memories for my senior year. I want to enjoy every minute of this season! I love being a role model to the younger girls and enjoy developing relationships with each of my teammates on and
With the Boys Basketball season in full swing, many students and teachers are very exited for the promising season ahead. The West Central boys are currently 0-2 but are hoping to turn the season around with the upcoming home games. “I think this season is going great I think that we have a real chance at State,” Said Senior Noah Vettrus. He said this after the 82-70 loss to Dells last Friday. It was in this game that he had 31 points and 10 rebounds. But he is not the only player that has a great outlook for this season, Junior Nick Nagel says that he is very excited for the season and he thinks the team will go all the way to state this year as long as they play smart and execute the plays correctly. “Honestly I see a lot of potential
This was my first volleyball camp at Michigan Tech University this summer and I was ready. Coaches sorted us into teams, taught us some intermediate skills revolving around the technique of the game, and scrimmaging from time to time. My team leader was Ali Gerring, a recent graduate from Kingsford. We did bump-set-spike drills and six different rotations to get ready for our big scrimmage the next day. You could see the sweat glistening on our faces, and smell the hard determination to improve. You could hear players call for the ball at every court yelling, “Mine, mine mine!”
Three players, seniors Mallory Ford and Lizzie Moran, as well as junior Michelle Tasin, will be playing their final home games in a Centenary uniform this weekend. They were an integral part of one of the greatest turnarounds in school history last season, helping the Ladies improve from seven wins in 2015 to 23 in 2016 – the third-most increase in wins in NCAA Division III
This Connecticut team has always been known for doing great things. The amount of dominance they have shown for the past years is nothing new for their Hall of Fame coach, Geno Auriemma. In spite of everything they have accomplished, people try to bash Uconn. Recently, Uconn has been in the middle of a huge controversy. Some have said their dominance is so thorough that it hurts women's college basketball, and makes “unwatchable” (Sherman). The height of this came when a Boston Globe columnist composed a questionable tweet.
The WMHS Freshmen Volleyball team did an amazing job which ultimately proved that it was a fun season! This Volleyball season was outstanding because the girls worked together and bonded. "Volleyball was fun while playing with my team members, who are like my family,” said Alexis Linderman ‘19. Practices spanning between one or two hours consisted of, “Learning new drills to better our skills,” Taylor Dunn ‘19, explained. Practices were fun and the girls learned from their mistakes and worked hard to fix them. Overall it was a marvelous season and the girls were ready to tryout for the next season.
The Lady Eagle volleyball team took a road trip to Holcomb last Thursday in order to compete against the Lady Longhorns and the Hugoton Eagles. Colby was victorious against Holcomb, but fell to Hugoton after a tough three set battle.
My love for volleyball started in 2011 when I started playing club volleyball, and because I have grown up in a single family house hold I know I had to work hard in school and volleyball to have the opportunity to go to college. A few months ago I commited to play volleyball at Centenary College of Louisiana. There I plan to take what I learn on the court and in the class into the field of accounting. But my true passion will be to use what I have learned in volleyball to start a volleyball club for girls that can not afford to play, because without the finanal support of others in my life I would not be where I am
My seventh grade volleyball team had a fantastic season. We had won every game except one leading up to the postseason. We were so successful since we worked well together. We exceeded in multiple areas on and off the court. After we won all of the Regional and Sectional games, we were headed to Tri-Valley on a
The volleyball dorks from Nekoma High, Fukurodani, Shiratorizawa Academy, Aobajosai, and Karasuno, has been granted to take on the International Volleyball Tournament (IVT). With the team dispersing, fighting for the trophy and playing against 10 different states in the USA, meanwhile, Kuroo Tetsuo, the Captain of the Nekoma High School Volleyball has caught himself falling in
