The perfect baseball player has a something called the “5 Tools” which include speed, hitting for power, arm strength, hitting for average, and fielding. We have all heard of a top prospect being compared to one of the greatest athletes of all time. There are times that these prospects turn out to be really good, but unfortunately there are times that we have witnessed a prospect become a bust. The one thing missing from that I believe should be added to that list is the ability to have an instinctive mind. A perfect baseball player needs to have dedication for the game, good eyesight, and be in great physical shape.
Many of the latest baseball prospects that have made it to the big leads have become some of the best baseball players around.

First off, it seems like this player knows that the ball will be either a strike or ball before the pitch is released. Ben Zobrist is always at the top of the list for taking walks. He also can play almost any position and that requires a lot of dedication and is extremely great shape for being at the age of 35. The next player is Mike Trout who can react to a fly ball like a cheetah chasing its prey. He has incredible power and speed for his size compared to a lot of the other great baseball players which in large part is due to the fact that he is in incredible shape. Finally, Javier Baez is always full of energy and can make some of the most impossible defensive plays. For example, he has the quickest hands in the game of baseball and can take a close tag play and tag the guy out by a mile. His teammate David Ross, who has been around for a very long time, stated “I played with Gold Glovers. I’ve played with Jackie Bradley Jr. (in Boston), who is probably the best center fielder I’ve ever played with. I’m not taking anything away from anybody I played with. Javier Baez, at his age (23), has the best hands, arm, and feel for the game. I’m not taking anything away from his bat. He’s got a great bat. But this dude is a baseball player. He knows how to run the bases, knows where to throw the ball. He’s got instincts ahead of where
Not only do players think while on defense, but also, they are thinking while batting. A player may be batting in certain situations where they know they need to hit the ball to a certain place or get a bunt down at a certain place. Again, this is all happening before they step into the box and react physically to the pitch being thrown. Baseball is a very hard game physically and when players are struggling it is very hard to stay positive mentally. It is hard to get enough to hit and when things are going bad our mind becomes evil. This is where baseball players develop to be mentally tough. Baseball is so hard that if you go 3 out of 10 you are considered one of the greats. In basketball, if a player shoots 3 out of 10 from the free throw line they're going to be terrible. This lone statistic right here shows how much failure is in the game of baseball and how hard it is. It is extremely hard for athletes to stay positive in these slumps they may experience when they aren't getting any hits. Another mental aspect of baseball is the fears players must overcome to be successful.
Baseball statistics are meant to be a representation of a player’s talent. Since baseball’s inception around the mid-19th century, statistics have been used to interpret the talent level of any given player, however, the statistics that have been traditionally used to define talent are often times misleading. At a fundamental level, baseball, like any game, is about winning. To win games, teams have to score runs; to score runs, players have to get on base any way they can. All the while, the pitcher and the defense are supposed to prevent runs from scoring. As simplistic as this view sounds, the statistics being used to evaluate individual players were extremely flawed. In an attempt to develop more
Baseball players have changed in multiple ways and different aspects have changed the way they play. These aspects could make them better like the technology we have came out with to analyze baseball swings we have learned a lot is the same with golf swings .Baseball has started paying players so much money which changes how they play.Giancarlo Stanton's contract
Yadier Molina is and always will be one of the greatest catcher to ever play the game of baseball. With Yadi coming into the league at such a young age, he has had more of an opportunity to prove himself and the stats and awards he has won can really back it up. Not just is he one of the greatest to play the game at that position, he is one of the best “on the field managers” as they say as far as controlling the tempo of the game and how it is played. With all of the accomplishments Molina has had in his career, it proves why he is one of the best to ever play the game at the catching position.
Have you ever wondered how baseball players are able to crush 400 foot homeruns? It takes years and years to perfect a baseball swing to be able to do that. Swinging a bat and hitting a baseball is a lot more difficult than most people think. The pros make it look so easy because they have to perfect many mechanics just to hit a ball hard on the sweet spot of the bat. “Hitting is the single most difficult thing to do in sport.” this coming from Ted Williams, one of the greatest hitters of all time. Hitting a baseball requires more mechanical precision compared to other sports (Williams).
However, a lack of motivation inspired hitting .300/.363/.511 with 19 doubles, 26 home runs, 49 walks, and 107 strikeouts that year. Altogether, he hit a .304/.366/.523 that season with 20 doubles, 28 homers. 102 RBI, 50 walks, and 10 strikeouts. He fell on a rough patch, therefore he trained intensively on his pitching, because his teammates needed him to win that season. Nonetheless, the rough patch became a temporary problem as his teammates and staff helped him to improve and his motivation to improve exceeded which ultimately reflect on his stats towards the end of the season.
Major League Baseball has customarily shunned the idea of too much focus on individual player limelight. America’s pastime has prided itself on being the penultimate team sport.
to old to play in the Major Leagues.” This, while insignificant on the surface, implies a startling
For others, the games go on and the players and their games just get bigger. One example is Steve Gardner. He was coached in little league by Jack Swenson, and continued to be coached by dedicated volunteer coaches and dads in this town until he made the high school team where he was coached until he graduated in 1966. After graduation, he played ball on the Weber State team for three years and was “All Conference” and was then drafted to play professionally for the Houston Astros for three seasons where he won the Western Carolina League Batting Championship and was named “Louisville Slugger” in 1971.
As a four-year varsity-starting catcher for his high school, Steve was destined for greatness as soon as he stepped onto the field. His coach John Martin described the 6’2” 210 pound player as “the greatest athlete he’s ever had the pleasure to coach,” and that Steve was a “unique physical specimen.” Whenever he set foot on the diamond Steve was always at least two or three steps ahead of the competition. Whether it was always knowing where to make the play before it even came to him, or positioning his teammates in a way
When someone thinks of baseball, they probably think of Mike Trout or Bryce Harper. They think of those two players for one reason: they are the best players in the game. Both were drafted in the first round and shot up through the minor leagues to the major leagues very quickly. Their talent and work ethic allow them to perform at an above average level, even in the major leagues. Although they both have enormous
Derek Jeter is one of the most beloved baseball players in the history of baseball. His rookie year he won the Rookie of the Year Award, but did not have the best fielding stats in the league. His rookie year he had the most errors ever in his career. He had twenty two errors that season and needed to improve.
The 33-year-old will give a showcase to major league scouts this Thursday in hopes to land a new contract. No one is expecting the same fastball that earned him two Cy Youngs in 2008 and 2009, but it doesn’t hurt to see what he can do.
At the start of the 2012 season, Latin American players make up forty-two percent of the minor leagues and twenty-four percent of the major leagues. Six of the top twenty-five highest paid players in the major leagues are Latin American players (Gordon). Yet, out of the hundreds at academies all over the Dominican Republic, less than half will ever leave the island. Out of all of the prospects in these academies, less than three percent will ever step to the plate in a major league game. Compared to American prospects where nearly seventy percent will at least make it to one level of the minor league system. American born prospects are also four times as likely to make a major league team roster, with their signing bonuses being an average
