Man is fed up with receiving the scraps from the gods. They fight back and it angers the gods, however, the gods need the humans prays to remain strong. A demigod, Perseus, steps up to fight for humanity, even though Zeus, his father, offered him a spot among the gods. Perseus led the journey to get Medusa’s head, and eventually defeated Hades and the kraken. Two significant, well-developed themes of this of this film are humility and perseverance. The definition of perseverance is: continuing in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success. Perseus shows perseverance many times throughout the film. This theme first develops when he shows an interest in ending Hades. Even when most of his army dies and is hesitant to keep fighting, he encourages them to keep going. He defeats Medusa despite his army dying, and even when his dear friend Io dies, he keeps fighting to achieve his goal. Against all odds, he defeats the kraken and banishes Hades from his world. He could have easily given up at any point, but he kept fighting and persevered to achieve his goal. …show more content…
A repetitive theme in this film in humility. It begins when Perseus discovers that he is a demigod. He does everything he can to show that he is a man, and that he despises gods. Zeus gives him a gift from the gods, but Perseus refuses to use it. People tell him to use his gifts to his advantage, but he just responds saying that he must achieve his goal as a man. Although he slightly uses the gifts he proved that he could fight the gods, as a man, and win. At end of the movie Zeus offers him a place with the gods, he declines the offer and explains that he has everything he need on Earth. He proved to Zeus, Hades, his army, and the town, that he could achieve his goal as the man he
It is a concept that has been shown to me by my parents’ struggles throughout their lives. My dad persevered to get where he is today. He grew up fairly poor and was determined to make a better life for himself, so he didn’t let anything get in the way. Even when he was eighteen living in a dilapidated nine dollar hotel and hanging power lines in the bitter Iowan winter, he didn’t give up. He said that even though he felt hopeless, he knew he had to preserve. Perseverance is not giving up when facing struggles and my dad is the embodiment of that concept. By my dad persevering through his struggles, he showed me that I cannot let obstacles be my demise. Another person who has displayed perseverance in my life is my mom. When I was about four, my loving, caring grandma died. This greatly affected my mom, but even though she was in pain she put on a brave face for me and my brother, and I think that this is a great example of perseverance. This also makes me want to be brave and have perseverance when I face challenges in my own life because if she got through hard times in her life then I can too. The people around me have shaped my idea of perseverance by the way that they have displayed it in their
Let’s say that you are in a big city full of thousands and thousands of people. They all have things to do, places to be, and you are just casually walking down the street one day. You take a nice deep breath and feel good about the world. Suddenly, you notice someone sitting by themselves in searing pain. You look around to see if anyone is offering any help. After no one helping them, you go up and help them. After that, more and more people come over and provide assistance. A few days later, you hear that they are fine and doing well. This what Perseus would have done if he was living in our society today. The Greeks had a whole different society built up. They had different problems that occurred and different ways to solve them. Perseus
Perseverance is something that everyone experiences in their life. The definition of perseverance is “steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.”. Perseverance is a big theme in the story “Into the Wild” by John Krakauer. Chris McCandless had to go through a lot of perseverance to get to Alaska. When Chris first started his adventure he needed to break free from the high life style that he was raised in, also the abuse and lies his father has caused on him and his family.
Perseus, a young man who slays an infamous gorgon known to many as Medusa. This heroic tale depicts a youthful male eagerly accepting a challenge and conquering fear; perhaps even finding a woman to marry. Quite impressive for someone born in a floating brass chest. To the eyes of many, Medusa presents herself as Perseus’ monster. However, by breaking down the ancient myth using Joseph Campbell’s monomyth theory, the evidence may point to a more personal demon.
Perseverance is the only thing that will truly keep the world alive. If humans had given up instead of persevering America would not exist, tyranny would reign and slavery would still exist. Several characters throughout literary history, such as Odysseus from Homers’ Odyssey, and Louis Zamperini in Unbroken are the prime examples of perseverance, and they did it through personal strength and determination to not be broken. After all, it is better to persevere and live a hellish life than to relinquish that life in order to live more comfortably in the hands of those who seek to degrade the soul.
Hillenbrand, L. (2010). Unbroken: A World War II story of survival, resilience, and redemption. New York: Random House.
In the book, Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie Zamperini was majorly obsessed with vengeance throughout the end of the book that his life was consumed by the quest for it. Louie felt as if the Bird had stolen his dignity at the POW campsites, where he was beaten, humiliated, starved, and stripped of his powers of self-defense. Louie was overwhelmed with his anger that the only objective he sought was to get revenge on the Bird. In other words, Louie was angered about his loss of dignity at the POW campsite, he wanted to get revenge on the Bird by killing him, and how Louie eventually forgives the Bird for what he did to him. These three reasons show how Louie’s loss of self-dignity in the POW camp was pursued.
The movie “Clash of the Titans” directed by Louis Leterrier is an old Greek myth that takes place in ancient time of the Greek Gods in the city of Argos, where there is a war between humans and Gods. The religious aspects are shown through the role of religion in mortal's lives, the influences of the Gods over humans, and the interactions of the mortals to the Gods' actions. The movie personifies on a realistic foundation of how ancient Greeks lived. While the hero Perseus is torn between the two worlds of humans and Gods, he learns who he is, and what he wants to be. The hero journey’s idea that is based upon The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell mainly focuses on the physical and spiritual transformation the hero goes
“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer,” by Albert Einstein. By persevering and not giving up, success can be reached. Perseverance is one of the themes in the novel “October Sky”. This book revealed the life of a young boy, Homer Hickam Jr., also called Sonny, who fought for his dream of building rockets against all odds amongst a small mining town. As time elapsed in the novel, Sonny matured and learned many lessons about rocketry and life, such as pursuing a dream, the influence of an important person, personal ambition versus loyalty to someone else…

Later found by a fisherman named Dictys who raised Perseus with Danae. The ruler of the land Polydectes was the brothe of Dictys and wanted Danae, so he told Perseus that he wanted a gorgon head. Perseus went on a long journey trying to find a gorgon. Athena and Hermes help find the gorgons and give Perseus the Equipment to kill a gorgon. Perseus travels back home to Polydectes after killing Medusa and shows everyone Medusa's head. Turning everyone into stone. Later he finds his mom and they go back to his grandfather. Perseus kills his grandfather afterward.
Heroes have existed in society for centuries and have been presented in many forms. Whether they were personal idols, literary figures, or real people, heroes represent hope and victory against the evils of the world. People look for heroes in their everyday lives, or often, as characters in tales of extraordinary circumstances. Some of the most renowned literary heroes of all time come from Greek myths. Within these stories about heroic idols, it is common for many main plot points to overlap. Across different genres, locations, languages, and eras the progression of the hero’s journey remains relatively uniform. Generally, it contains three broad components: departure, initiation, and return. The tale of Perseus is a popular tale of an ostracized son of Zeus. Perseus and his mother Danae were nearly killed by Acrisius, Danae’s father, when he sent them out to sea in a chest. They were rescued by a kind fisherman, Dictys, and lived peacefully with him until his brother, Polydectes, decided he wanted Danae for a wife. He tricked Perseus into setting out on a venture to kill the deadly monster Medusa. These events essentially align with the progression of the hero’s journey. Therefore, throughout the myth of Perseus, the character’s quest follows the conventional pattern of the hero’s journey.
To start things off the plot in the movie “Percy Jackson,” is very different compared to the legend of “Perseus”. Firstly, Percy faced off against the hydra in a museum (Chris Columbus, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief). Perseus however never had to face this challenge. Next, in the Legend of Perseus the author wrote, “...a horrible sea monster came up from the sea….” but in the movie Percy never fought a sea monster. The biggest change from the Legend of Perseus and The Percy Jackson movie is that Percy had to go to the underworld
When comparing Perseus to other heroes, the first person who usually comes to mind is Percy Jackson. Percy Jackson’s story has some similar points as the story of Perseus, but most of them are changed to be a little more kid friendly. I will be talking about the kinds of monsters that were battled in each of the stories, the Hero Archetypes, and themes. I will start with one of the most important things in any hero story, the monsters.
After their father's death, Martine and Philippa in their old age managed to keep the sect going, even with the reduction in number of its members and the lack of growth. They also witnessed several arguments that sprout up during their many gatherings. They kept their cool, and never disrespected any of the member, and by doing this, they continued their father's legacy. The highlight of the theme of perseverance is in the scene where the two women sat at the table with other sect member's, as they usual gathered when the pastor was alive. In this scene, Martine and Philippa sat quietly at the table as they listened to the different arguments occurring. They both tried to start their usual anthem few times, but to no avail as the arguments continued. However, in the face of all of the challenges, these two women
What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success. As students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed.
