I was once told that in order to figure out how to become who you're supposed to be you have to experience tragedy and hardship. This may aid the process and even change the outcome, but self- reflection is what changes us. Socrates, when on trial for impiety and corrupting the youth, said, "The unexamined life is not worth living", meaning that without self-reflection life is stagnated and prevented from reaching its full potential.
From the time that I was very young the idea of identity confused me. I couldn't tell if it was who I was or who I would one day become. There are certain aspects of identity that I was encouraged to develop earlier than others. I had some time to reflect on my own history after I graduated in May and came to

I first performed Birdy's version of Skinny Love and moved on to artists like Adele, Coldplay, and Elvis.
I added ukulele to my list of musical talents two years ago when I was in
Keller's production of Wizard of Oz. I picked up the instrument in the changing room as a joke and began playing it. To everyone's amazement I had learned the beginning of Somewhere Over the Rainbow by watching people practice it.
Poetry and music have worked hand in hand to encourage self-reflection and provide an avenue of self discovery. They showed me the way to have a life that was truly worth living. Not only has my writing and my music sparked change and thought in myself, but it has affected others. My younger sister began playing ukulele shortly after me, my friends began asking advice on writing poetry.
I could have talked about hardship and tragedy, but they do not make me who I am. I can reflect on those events, the feelings, and even wish to take it back, but it is what I chose to do with my hurt and my trials that made me who I am.
I adapted to the way the world around me works, but the world around me did not decide that I would love to play music and write poetry, I did. I defined
Throughout my life I faced a lot of challenges. I had to overcome the obstacle that was on my way. The obstacle made me stronger and made me the person who I am right
and we can do so only by taking the risk of being uniquely our own selves.” This quote fits
When people go through something difficult it can change them. Making them who they are, it can change them for the bad or good. Therefore, hardships can greatly influence a person’s life by making them appreciate all the things that make life enjoyable.
Potentially while growing up and as you get older in life there is a possibility of changing
How do your choices affect your everyday life? Every choice has a consequence. A consequence doesn’t always have to be bad, it could be good. If you do something good why would you get punished? Or vice versa. Choices, everything you do is your choice. Left or right? Up or down? It’s all up to you. You choose your path, choose wisely though. Choices are like the domino effect.in life there are 2 paths, a good path and a bad path. We all try to go down the good path but that isn’t always the case.
Over the years I have faced many trials in my life. Like Frederick Douglass, I had to fight and learn to make the best of a bad situation. He had to find ways to learn to read and write on his own, where as I had to learn to support not only myself but a new life alone. How we faced hardship greatly influences our success in life.
This is the mantra that I have, “I do what I do because I can, not because I have to.” I think we should all, whatever we do in life, we should do it because we can, not out of obligation or any other reason.
In the quote above, William Shakespeare, describes that a person needs to place who they are and being confident above everything else. Nothing is worse than regretting a situation in life because someone wasn’t being their true self. No one should ever let success, a relationship, or what people think of them get in the way of being who they are. They may be putting on a mask and acting like a different person to try and impress the popular group in school or someone that they really like. In the long run, they may miss out on a great friend or relationship where they are not judged . The 90’s film, “Clueless”, is a perfect example of this quote. The protagonist, Cher Horowitz, tries changing who she is to find a boyfriend. She wants to
One must not settle for anything when finding out who he is. Just because something is easy doesn’t mean it is the right choice. In order for a person to make a unique place in society and not just conform to what everyone else is doing,
Who I am today is a result of my life experiences and the ways I have chosen to deal with them.
“I'm stuck between who I am, who I want to be, and who I should be.” - Unknown
Of Course there are more things that make me who I am. But these three experiences taught me the more important things in life. My Uncles death taught me I’m only as strong as I make myself. My courage came from being by mom while she was sick. Switching schools taught me that I am much more than what people and I expect me
I have been through countless obstacles that aided in the forming of my character, however there was a more recent bump in the road that truly made me the person I am today.
In the first telling of my personal narrative, I did not consider including what had led me to a point where I began to embrace my identities and become proud of my heritage as Korean. There were many factors that led me to be who I am today. The reason for leaving out the information was because there were so many people and occurrences that led me to the point where I am now. For example, moving to different elementary school where there were more diverse body of students, annually performing at the Mosaic in the Korean pavilion, my parents being a positive role model, and becoming a volunteer teacher at the Korean Language School are some of the reasons which have led me to be who I am today. As I was surrounded by people who were interested
In life everyone will face some form of hardship. Some people may not go through as many hardships as some others might but we all still have our own personal problems. In my life I have not faced many hardships like some others have which I am very grateful for such things not happening to me. But even though I haven't gone through many hardships I have still had my own fair share of personal hardships. One such hardship I have gone through twice is overcoming the death of a loved one.
