Elene exited the car and followed her father to Mr. Yu’s home. To piano lessons: 3:00 pm. Arrived and opened the gate: 2:45 pm. She entered the house: 2:50 pm. Her father led her over to the bench as she waited for her turn. Ten minutes from now. Just like clockwork. Tyler sat at the piano, practicing diligently. Yet another uneventful day had passed. He sighed, bored with his mundane life. Nothing exciting ever happened. And if it did, he wasn’t allowed to participate. He looked up, lost in his thoughts. His playing slowly faltered as his eyes fell upon a girl. He had never seen her before, but this was the first time he had come for lessons in the afternoon, perhaps this was her normal practice time? She was unnaturally beautiful. She was having an early practice and Mr. Yu was obviously frustrated with her. He slapped his baton on the piano so hard that the candy jar fell, causing several to fall upon the floor. As he left in a huff, Elene slowly edged her way off the bench, and began struggling to locate the sweets to pick them up off the floor. Tyler cocked his head in curiosity. The candies were right there, how could she not see them? He then realized, her blank expression, her calculated schedule, he turned to Chen. “Chen, is that girl blind?” he asked. Chen put his finger to his lips. “Elene has been blind for five years now. She was in a horrible automobile accident when she was younger. Not only has it impaired her vision, but her ability to speak as well. Please, don’t speak of this to anyone else. It’s a rather private matter.” As Mr. Yu exited the room to check on other affairs, Tyler snuck in and sat down next to her. There were candies on the piano keys, left right where they had fallen.
