I am particularly proud of the fact that I did well in my event during track season. I was asked by the track coach to run in an event that I have never done before--300 meter hurdles. At the beginning of the season my times were slow and my technique was poor. I watched the other hurdlers and emulated their effort. I took direction from the coach. As the season progressed, my times steadily improved. At the end of the season I competed for a spot in the regional finals. I am happy that I competed even though I didn’t make the finals. This experience demonstrates my self motivation, my ability to overcome stress and a degree of competence I didn’t know I had in a sport in which success is largely determined by individual effort. A few years ago cheerleading was a huge part of my life. I was on two competitive teams that worked hard three days a week to perfect our routines. When we were not practicing we were encouraged to attend open gyms which were aimed at practicing our tumbling skills. I attended the open gym being held one day not knowing that it would be my last. As I landed a one handed cartwheel my knee was twisted so drastically that I heard a loud pop that followed up with intense pain. After icing it and resting for a few days, I started to interpret my pain as being more serious due to the fact that it was giving out on me while doing daily tasks. I also had two close friends that had torn ligaments in their knees that needed repaired with surgery, so
HAROLD, is a flight instructor. He is in his mid fifties, and is too lackadaisical to be giving lessons. His hair is a frazzled mess. He looks as though he just rolled out of bed. He leans back in his seat wearing sunglasses, having not a care in the world.
I could tell you so much about me like I have moved 3 times with my mom but never with my dad, or I could tell you more about when I lost my cat Egon but that is not what I am going to tell you about. Today I will be telling you about all about me.
“Break!” the three judges called simultaneously. The two competitors rushed back to their spots anxious to see who had scored the point that time. “Judges call points!” the center judge commanded. At the same time, all three judges raised their red flags in the air giving competitor Will Franken another point. It was the final round in the youth 4th degree black belt sparring competition. These two competitors had won every round they had been thrust into, and now they were battling each other for the gold medal at the Tiger Rock Martial Arts world tournament in Nashville, TN.
One cold winter day sitting at home waiting for my kids to get home from school. It was almost 3:00pm and they get off the bus at 3:05pm and all the sudden my phone rings and it’s the kids’ school. All I heard was “We have Diego; we need to come to school right now.” My heart dropped, and that was the longest ride ever and we only lived 3 minutes from the school. I got to the office and I had no idea what to expect my son sitting in the chair in the Dean of Students office, he spots me and just starts crying. I asked “What’s going on with my son?” When the effects of bullying have been brought into your life, the effect it has on your family as a whole was hard, but we did overcome the problem that faced us as a team.
There once was a salt shaker, named Saltina, who fell in love with a pepper shaker, named Pepprico. The two grew up in a grocery store down town, and began to grow rather fond of each other. Unfortunately, their love was forbidden among the spice world, but they did not care. As they grew closer and closer they decided to elope, and get married at night in the produce isle. The two eventually had an oregano child and named her Baby Spice. They kept their child hidden with their good friend, Herb, who lived in the isle next to them. The family became tired of having to live this secret life, so they decided to run away. Saltina took Baby Spice to a place where Pepprico and his wife could bring the child with them. The three would leave at the busiest store hour, so that way all the
My entire childhood I lived with my maternal grandparents. My grandpa drove a truck and was only home on weekends, while my grandma stayed home with me. I had the same rotating schedule for visiting my mom, I stayed the entire month of June, a week in october, a week in January, and if it was an odd year I went to stay on all major holidays. My life was fairly predictable until the day my grandparents decided to divorce.
I was genuinely surprised I didn’t have to wake up earlier. My flight left from Los Angeles at 10am, and I was to arrive in Scotland in the afternoon of the next day due to time zone differences. My Uber driver was asking me tons of questions on the way to the airport, and personally, I like to play a game whenever I’m in an Uber; it’s called “Who Am I?” That day, I was a college student going back to St Andrews University, I had previously researched it when I considered majoring in English, so I had all answers at my disposal. I arrive at the airport and there are practically no lines for TSA, leaving me to wander around the airport for an hour before my flight is called. No matter what time of day, airports have always been surreal to me. It feels like time doesn’t exist, and there is an overwhelming
My mother is an excellent chef and tonight we are having one of her specialties: philly cheese steaks. These aren’t just any philly cheese steaks though. The rolls are homemade honey wheat and each bite reveals just a hint of fresh basil. The meat is a succulent beef that has been sliced paper thin and has been cooking slowly in its own juices for eight hours. The mozzarella was made by my grandfather earlier today, and it melts into a delicious, gooey mess. Mom does not make this often as the beef she uses is pretty expensive, but today’s special. Today, not only do I turn eighteen, but I was also recently accepted into the honor’s program at Moss University.
I woke up late...it was the day after my most recent move. Therefore, it is safe to assume that I was tired and not entirely on my A-Game.
I was so annoyed with this hike for the fact that the mosquitoes were so bad it's like when my little brother throws a bunch of legos at me, and the night hike has started. This hike is called the sensory hike it's at night and it's when we do our solo hike AT NIGHT it's gonna be so scary. When the hike started it was I should be thinking more positive but so much could happen in the next couple hours. I have been so tired from atwood the hikes take FOREVER and they make your legs hurt a lot. After walking for like an hour my group and I finally went to the stop for the solo hike.
Have you ever thought to yourself, “Today is the day that I will part from my family to go to a whole new country to work for a plenty amount of money to support each and one of them,”? Well, that’s exactly what my dad thought to himself when the time came for him to move to the U.S. when he was just only 16 years old, he heard that the United States was a country where you could be free. He was the only child, in his family of 3 siblings, to move to the U.S. hoping to earn the money that can support his family because of the place he lived in. A poor city, named Xiao Ao, with only a few cars and no tall buildings, unlike New York. My dad lived in Xiao Ao until 1990 he moved to New York not knowing a single thing about English hoping to go down a different path to change his life forever.
It was a hot July day in the city with the sun shining down on the busy streets and sidewalks of New Albany, Indiana. A few miles away from the city lived a kid whose name was Jack. Jack and his family didn't have a lot of money back then. One day Jack's mom woke him from bed and said, “Jack, I want you to go into the city and sell the families' moped.” Jack got up. He took helmet and keys and hopped on the moped and drove off to the city. On the way to New Albany Jack decide to stop at a gas station so he could blow his nose. So he parked his moped and went inside the gas station. He went into the bathroom and blew his nose. On his way out of the gas station a homeless man walked up to Jack and said, “Hey son, I'll give you these magic beans for that moped.” Jack looked at him and said,
Have you ever wondered what it was like to live in a place where it rains everyday? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live on a totally different planet from earth? This is the story of a girl named Margot, who had lived on Earth and has moved to the planet Venus a couple years ago. Venus is a planet where it rains everyday, and once around every seven years the sun comes out for an hour or two.
