On a sunny afternoon in May of 2013 I learned a very important lesson. I was at a family auction in the small quiet town of Ames, Oklahoma. The dew was still wet on the ground and the air was crisp. There was a lot of my extended family there as well as people I had never met. I got to see my cousin Taylor as well as one of her cousins named Jadey. We decided we were going to go ride four wheelers out in the field and it was at that time I learned a valuable lesson. Four wheeler accidents happen often, but I never expected to be the one involved. Before my accident I thought four wheelers were fairly safe, but afterwards I learned that an accident can happen in a split second and you should never assume you won’t be the one involved. We were racing through the field and I just kept thinking to myself nothing bad will happen. There was an oil pumping jack on a hill up ahead. The hill was not to steep; it was much like a small ditch. The pumping jack was surrounded with white gravel. As we were getting closer Taylor started to slow down until we finally came to a complete stop. Taylor told us how she used to jump the four wheelers up the hill and how much fun it was. This was the point where I started to second guess being on the four wheeler with a person I did not know. Taylor sped up and jumped over the hill, she landed perfectly. Jadey decided to try it so I held on really tight, we sped up and shot over the hill. We landed great the first time and went back for another round. As Jadey got more confident doing this we began going faster and higher off the hill. It was the fourth round that did not go so well. We took off from about thirty yards away and were going fairly fast, over the hill and up into the air we went. The four wheeler started to tip forward and I could tell we were going to land with the front wheels first. Jadey panicked and hit the brakes right as the front wheels hit the ground which caused me to fly forward and fall off the four wheeler. The four wheeler ran over my left inner thigh and I hit my head on the hard gravel. It all happened so quickly that is was a
Well I was not that lucky, as I went around the corner, I said “Watch this!”, as I pushed harder on the gas pedal. I came around the corner drifting off more than expected; I corrected it too much to where I lost control of the wheel. I blinked for a second, I could see we were heading right into a ditch. Not having much time to hit the brakes, right into the ditch we went. If it wasn’t for the way the wheels were turned we probably would have been able to drive away. The wheels were turned to the left, therefore the way they hit the ditch made us tip over on the driver’s side. I knew we had to get out instantly making sure nothing was leaking, or caught on fire, also to check if we were seriously injured. My friend and I had our windows down, therefore we climbed out of her window. When we got out of the car we both checked ourselves for anything, which I was covered in broken glass from when my window broke hitting the ground. Luckily I did not fall out the window because I was not wearing my seat belt. I had used my hand to catch me from hitting my head or anything else. I was bleeding all over from the many little cuts I had from shoulder to my fingertips. After making sure we were
It was about 2 hours before we had to leave and I kept going over the jump on that little path and jumped higher and higher every time. Finally one time I drive over to the group by the fire and told my dad to watch me. My plan was to go really fast and get really big air. I went down the path like always. All of the sudden I was in midair thinking “How did I get myself into this.” I felt scared because I was looking at the ground and wasn’t close to landing. I came crashing down on the right front tire and somehow landed back on all four wheels but not before hitting my face on the front rack of the four wheeler. After I landed I didn’t really realize how close I was to going to the hospital and having really bad injuries. I rode back over to my dad and he had the most scared look on his face. I said “Did you see how high I got?!” He looked at me and said, “Don’t ever do that again.” I laughed and asked why. He said, “If mom was here you wouldn’t get back on the four wheeler because you almost just died.” I looked over at the rest of the group and they all shook their heads in agreement with my dad. I was too scared to ever jump that jump ever again. After that big event we stayed for another hour and a half. We packed up and headed home. I was to wore out and I slept all the way home. Once we got home the people that we picked up in the beginning of the day came to our house for chilli that my mom made. At dinner we talked about what we liked and what was the most fun and how I almost died. My mom’s response was, “Good thing I wasn’t there you wouldn’t have gotten back on the four wheeler.” After dinner the other family left with their four wheeler and I went to bed because I was to beat. The
We were all scared. My grandpa, dad and I running straight into the track. The only thought there was in my mind was, he isn 't okay. Making sure that he turns over and lays on his back as someone calls 911, I left to go get the cart from the trailer. As I left the track to get it, I start crying, fearing the worst. I run back the track and have my dad help me put the car on the trailer cart and pull it back to the trailer and run back to my uncle. As I got back to my uncle, he was talking some intolerable words. After a few minuets, I heard my name from him.
I gripped the wheel and made a sharp left and went up the curb into the heavily landscaped median. My shiney black Charger went airborne, grazed a tree and landed on top of some shrubbery. A disaster had been averted, I was humiliated and ashamed at my negligence, but we were all alive. The people in the car ahead of me with the terrified eyes never even pulled over, they just kept on going. I sat there atop the shrubbery in my sleek black Charger, first laughing and then weeping. I never played the radio that loudly again, and that was the last time I cruised Gratiot Avenue. It was a lesson that was not lost on me. I still love cars but that moment was a slingshot into adulthood, where my carerfree reckless world gave way to booster seats, and insurance rates. Don't get me wrong, I still get goosebumps when I hear the sound of a six cylinder hemi, but from that night on I learned to understand and respect the responsibility that comes with that kind of
One summer day in July , Me and my friend Carol went to an amusement park called Cedar Point . Cedar Point is located in Sandusky , Ohio and two and a half hours away . My mom and me wanted to go on a ride called the Maverick . The Maverick is Cedar Point’s steepest roller coaster and its speed is 70 miles per hour . The Maverick also has a 95 degree drop ! Then we went in line and waited for about an hour and a half . It was about eleven o'clock when we got close to the front of the line . When we finally got to the roller coaster I regretted going on because it was very dark and I couldn't see where the drop was and I don’t like steep roller coasters . Because of that me and Carol where panicking the whole way up . As soon as we got to the
It was a Saturday afternoon and my sister and I were bored so we decided to race down the driveway. She was on her moped and I was on my ripstik. We started counting down three, two, one, at two Mackenzie cheated and started going down. I intended to jump into the grass, I landed in the middle of the driveway. While I was in the air I came down and landed on my side. My sister came to see what happened, she saw a puddle of blood where my elbow was, she said that it was like a person had dumped a bucket of red kool aid all over the pavement! My toes looked like my little sister creamed a bunch of red lipstick all over them. Also my waist looked like someone took a knife and cut all of the skin off. After this all happened my sister ran
Ashley and I were up for the short go on the last day of the rodeo. All we had to do is catch and we would win the team roping champion title. We drew a really fast steer that outran us. Ashley roped it at the end of the pen and I was coming in very fast. My horse plowed into the steer and the next thing I knew I was on the ground. I was telling myself that we just lost the title because I fell off of my
Our drill director decided to stop by and see how we were doing. There was an issue that we had talked about before where the color guard would mesh with the drum line, while throwing a toss at the same time. This was extremely dangerous considering that we had no control of our flags and of how close we were to other people. Because of this, the drill director decided to change the drill so that we would be moving while throwing the toss. I was extremely resentful of this because i was not very good at this toss and now i would be moving while the flag was in the air. The first few times we went through the new drill i simply did not throw the toss and when i decided to throw it i would not throwing it as high as it was supposed to be. Once i had the drill completely memorized, i decided to push myself and throw the toss the way i knew to, with all of my strength and keeping my free hand in the air. We were going through the set and i was nailing it, i threw my flag up high up into the sky, watching it as it spun round and round. It seemed to come down with double the force that it was thrown with and because of that and because i didn't leave my free hand in the air to catch the flag and to guard my face i t came crashing down onto my nose. My hand flew up to my nose and i ran from the flag, not wanting to mess up anything else. I knew right away that my nose was bleeding. I took my hand away from my nose and
I was eight months old when my chubby little body broke its strongest bone. Being my outgoing, curious self I was beginning to become more and more comfortable with the edges of my parents bed. With my brother not paying attention, I decided to test my knowledge of life. The result of me falling to the ground is captured in photographs, a chubby kid with a groin high blue cast, sitting on top of the same bed.
We had this playset that had a bar on the left side to do flips on. On the other side there was a climbing rope, and in the front there were two swings. My brother and I came up with a game to see who could get over the bar fastest by doing a flip. So the first few times I did it I was fine, I grabbed the bar put my stomach on it and spun down. My brother and I took turns and on my 3rd turn I must not have done it correctly, but either way I hit my head on it right below my eyebrow. I fell on the ground and held my hand to my eye, by then I started crying because of shock. Surprisingly it didn’t hurt that bad, but it was just throbbing. My brother came over and told me to move my hand so he could look at it when I did he looked worried, he told me that we had to go in the house right away. I had blood all over the palm of my hand and on the right side of my face. He helped me up and walked there with me to the house.
I was curious about why I would need goggles. I said no thank you. We started the quads and we let them sit while they warmed up. We walked around then they were ready to go. Then I started riding. I realized why I needed the googles, the cold breeze whipped my eyes and stung so badly that immediately I went back and got the goggles. I said to Tanner's dad now I know why I needed the googles. I went around the little field that we were riding in it was very bumpy and we started going faster as we new the place better. It became more fun than we thought it would be. and here comes the bad part. We started playing a game sorta like cops and robbers but better tanners quad was faster than mine so I would try to ride away from him and he would try to catch me. He would make me stop kind of like pull me over and then he would pull me over and then pull in front of my quad but I would kick I into reverse and run away so we played this for like a half an hour. We kept on but this time I was running and I was going top speed and I fell straight into a ditch About 3 feet high and I went straight over the handlebars my sweatshirt pocket got stuck on the handlebar and ripped. The string of my sweatshirt wrapped around the handle bar and got stuck in a not. I was laying with my sweatshirt strangling the quad kept on moving I thought I was going to get run over by the quad but tanners dad stopped it just in time and he got me
All of us ended up arguing about it how we would go down it all together or one at time? Eventually we decided that we would all go at one at a time we jokingly said just in case one of almost dies we can get to them a lot quicker. My friend Josh goes first he made it all the way down and gave me the okay signal that i could go now. When i started making my way down it felt amazing the wind blowing in my air,how everything passed by me in a blur and that feeling of adrenaline, i honestly believed i could do anything well i was wrong. My Longboard started to wobble and i immediately panicked, I was going to fast to slow myself down. so i tried to jump into a grassy area, but that did not work out the way i planned considering i slammed into a brick mailbox Going easily past 21 mph. i don’t remember much about what happened afterwards. I remember being winded i could hardly breath and i couldn’t move i saw blood coming down from the side of my head going onto the concrete floor. The last thing i saw was my friend Noah running from the top of the hill towards me and my vision turning into a blurry
So one day I was hanging out with some friends we were just sitting in my room then we decided to go longboarding. After we came up a hill and one of my friends decided to go down the hill on are stomach. As we lined up getting ready to go down the hill my cousin went down the hill first so we were zooming down the hill going, so fast then as i hit a pebble I fly off the board as i was coming to the road i braced myself with my hand skinning my hand also tearing some of my flesh off of my hand. I stood up instantly as my hand was gushing blood everywhere the blood was painting the road with the blood .
I was driving a truck and I had some people in the truck. It late at night and I was driving on an empty road out in the countryside. I tried to slow down the truck but it just kept speeding up. I didn’t tell anyone and kept stoic facial expression, but the passenger noticed that my leg was repeatedly hitting the brake and that the emergency brake was on. Everyone started to freak out, I stayed calm until someone from the back reach and turn the steering wheel with force. A soon as the truck hit the side of the road, I woke up.
It all started on a sunny afternoon this past September when I was riding my uncles quad in the trails behind my house. I was just cruising around in the trails when I decided to go up a very steep hill. I shouldn't have even attempted making it up this hill, but I went for it. I had almost made it to the top when the quad stalled out 5 feet from the top. The quad started to roll backwards, so I grabbed the brake and cut the wheel which turned out to be my worst move. I should have grabbed the front brake and rolled down the hill slowly and kept the wheels straight. Instead the quad was sideways on the hill, so I jumped off and the quad came with me. After the quad rolled over me and landed upside down at the bottom of the hill I flipped the
