I Believe in Fear
I believe in fear. Yes, you read this right. I believe in the stomach-dropping feeling you get when you flunk a test. I believe in the regret you feel when you’re about to ride a roller coaster more rapid than your mind can comprehend. I believe in the spine-tingling feeling when you’re watching a horror movie on TV. I believe in the reason why you can’t drown a fingernail-size spider that lives in your sink.
Everybody is afraid of something. Some people deny that they’re afraid of anything, but they’re either lying to you or themselves, because everyone is afraid of something, even if it hides in the back of your mind. Some of the most common fears are fear of heights, fear of spiders, fear of people, fear of death, and
Everybody has a different perspective on fear and everybody is affected differently. The Mental Health Foundation stated that, “Fear can last for a short time and then pass but it can also last much longer and stay with us. In some cases it can take over our lives, affecting appetite, sleep, and concentration for long periods of time. Fear stops us from travelling, going to work or school, or even leaving the house.” This quote shows that fear does not affect people as much as it does to others. Although, fear can affect people for a long time which can cause them to stay isolated from others. There are many types of fears and some examples of fears include: the fear of the number 13, the fear of spiders, the fear of heights, and many others. There are hundreds of fears and many people have these fears and everybody is affected differently.
There have been a lot of times that I have been scared in this life, but this one was the
Everybody that you come into contact with on a daily basis will have a fear of something but a phobia can be defined as an irrational fear, this can provoke feelings of intense anxiety and initiate avoidance behaviour.
Everybody has fears; whether they'd like to admit to them or not. To each is own on why they won't admit to them but to me everybody in their right mind as at least one fear. Fear is such an unpleasant emotion that is all caused by something or someone that can be some type of danger to you or if you nothing about it’s capability. People can be afraid of anything, the most common fears are Death, for the unknown of what comes after you die or the unknown of how you're going to die and Heights because
Another cause for people having fear is the past experiences they have had. Generally, if something bad has happened to somebody, they try to forget about it and/or they try to make sure it never happens again. However, in doing so, they still have a subconscious fear that something similar to the terrible event they’ve experienced may somehow manage to happen again, especially if there are a few similarities between the past event and the current situation. For example, if a man had surgery for his heart to perform better and he nearly died, he may be very reluctant to ever have surgery to his heart or any other body part(s) again.
In my life I had a lot of negative people that I was scared of. My brother was one of those who scared me the most. Although he never meant to, he still did. My entire life I was scared to go home. I didn’t feel safe. I was always full of negative. I hated it. I was always scared. I was always having attacks. At first the attacks didn’t happen that much. But they soon became my entire life.
Native Son by Richard Wright is a piece of literature that is meant to demonstrate how fear in the white community drives society to label blacks as dangerous, immoral, and subhuman. The main character, Bigger Thomas, embodies all of the preconceptions and secret fears that people associate with black Americans. He lies, he steals, he is violent, and by the end of the story he is a rapist and a murderer. The first time he is given an opportunity to improve his family’s life, he tries to adapt, but because of a turn of fate he has to throw his chances away. Bigger wants to evade all of the stereotypes of “people like him.” Eventually he realizes that he has become what everybody fears most: a nigger. His
Fear can be different for everyone, but everyone will encounter it at some point in the lifetime. Some people have a fear of the dark, or Nyctophobia which really isn’t about the darkness itself. It happens because people imagine things that could go wrong in a dark environment and they get a sense of danger. That sense of danger is what
"I'm scared to death of allowing someone to read my work." a girl in my college English class says in one of her posts. I want to write back to her: Be scared. Do it anyway. However, this class isn't somewhere that we all have free reign to say whatever we want to one another, or maybe it is, but I feel awkward because maybe our professor, a published author, should tell her this instead. All the same, I can't shake it.
Fear is very common, and it is a basic emotion. Fears form in our nervous system, and are instinctive. Some fears animals are born with, and others they learn through experience. Animals respond to fear when they sense danger or feel unsafe. Although fears can seem bad and scary, they actually help protect us in many ways. It makes us ready and alert to deal with certain situations. Fears come naturally, and help in many situations. Like all other human emotions, fears can be of all different quantities or intensities. They can last very short or very long, depending
Fear, an emotion that boost hearts' rate and creates tear-stain faces. Most fears are common among multiple people, slimy, weird shapes, and the unknown can use to describe those fears. However, my fear does not include those characteristics, but an action that has scared me since I was a child. An adult acting like a toddler is an action that terrifies me. My older sister, Tiffany would do it a lot when I was a child and it would make me wail. Now, as a twenty year old woman, I still tear up when someone does it. I enjoy horror movies and have a soft spot for scaring others yet, I am terrified of someone portraying a toddler.
of me. I remember how I felt after being awoken by the fear of death.
Everyone is afraid of something. These fears are all normal; lots of other people feel the same way that you do. What do you fear more than anything else? Everyone is afraid of something like spiders or heights, these fears are all normal. People who have a specific powerful fear suffer from a phobia. A phobia is an intense fear of a specific object, situation, or activity. Mental health professionals have identified hundreds of phobias. No one is certain what causes a phobia. People can sometimes manage and even overcome them on their own. In other cases, they need to seek professional treatment to deal with their phobias. This research includes the definition of phobia; also it will describe the common types of phobia, it causes and signs.
Most people have rational fears. I have both rational and irrational fears. The one that sticks out to me the most is the fear of drowning. That pit in your stomach when driving over a bridge. That you need to unlock the doors just incase you are in an accident. The need to be able to escape. That is just one of the many emotions I feel about water.
I used to be bold and fearless, until I was attacked by a group of men. Even though, my friends have known me as a fun loving and an outgoing girl. The incident took my happiness away and made me reserved. Living with fear is a terrifying way of life. Now I would rather stay home and be safe than enjoying life surrounded by strangers.
