Rachel is my best friend. We have been friends since the third grade, and she knows me the best. We’re like two peas in a pod. (simile) She told me earlier today that she had a huge surprise for me. I was excited. She just texted me telling me she was on her way over. I have no idea what she could be getting me. My birthday was coming up so I assumed it was an early birthday present. I saw her car pull up in the driveway. Rachel gets out of her car. She begins to walk up to the door and with each of their steps, I get more and more anxious. My mom comes downstairs with a suitcase.
“Where are you going mom?” I asked. “I’m not going anywhere,” she replies.
Just then Rachel knocks on the door. Three big knocks like claps of thunder. I run

I grab my suitcase, and head out the door with Rachel. I get into Rachel’s car, and we head off to the airport. On the way Rachel tells me that it 's a three hour flight. Jeez. I think I forgot to mention how I’m scared of flying. It something about the height I think. But three hours of suffering leads to two days of happiness.
We arrive at the airport. I forgot how loud it is. We get our tickets and get out our passports and wait in the line for security. This line is moving slower than molasses in January. We finally get to the front of the line.
We sit down on the plane. I text my mom and say we 're about to take off. I start to sweat after I send the text. Every possible situation that could happen runs through my mind. My pulse is a car race. (metaphor) Faster and faster. Rachel looks at me and knows exactly what I 'm thinking.
“Lily,” she says, “Everything will be okay. We will land safely. I promise.”
“I’m just so worried,” I say.
“I know. But I promise it will be okay,” Rachel says.
We take off. Wow this three hour flight will be amazing! (verbal irony) I fall asleep. Three hours later I wake up, and we 've landed. Wow that went by fast.
After we check into the hotel, it downpours. Even through the window the beach looks perfect. Although it 's so dark, I can see the white sands, and choppy blue waters. The palm trees are blowing with the forceful winds. I 'm sad because I was really excited to go surf today. But we still have
I am your pilot this morning, and I will be taking you to Newark, New Jersey. The flight will be about three hours. Sit back, relax and have a good flight. I looked to my left to see my parents on their phones, not paying attention to any of their surroundings. There was a long line of people in the aisle waiting to take their seats, each person pushing large suitcases. In the row across for us, Jack was sitting in the row seat listening to music. Since there was four of us Jack had to sit by himself with two other strangers but he didn’t mind. The engines suddenly started to roar as I started to get pushed gently back into my seat. The front of the plane started to rise from the ground and as soon as I noticed we were up in the air. I took a deep breathe as I took my backpack out under the seat. I grabbed my new book “Looking for Alaska” and began to read. One of my friends gave it to me as a going away gift because she knew I loved to read. After a while, my mind slowly started to drift off onto a whole different planet. I was still in shock that I just left all my friends and I was moving to New Jersey. The whole situation was not processing through my head and I thought that we were just going on vacation to New Jersey, and we were not actually about to live there. Even thinking about having to make new friends and joining a new soccer team sent chills down my body. I am always shy around new people and now I have to break out of my
I step off the plane grateful for the safe landing as I wait for the my family to get out of the plane, my little brother comes out with his hair all messed up and matted from the long flight, he gets airsick . While we walk to the baggage claim I look around trying to absorb everything around me thinking, “so this is what it's like in America”. Remembering how sad it was to leave behind all my friends especially Claire and Bella, the airport in France was just a cryfest, we were hugging so long they had to ask us to stop unless we wanted to miss the flight. They both shouted YES! But I knew I had to go, I waved to them until they were just little specks in the backround.
As I walk through the revolving doors at the airport in my hometown, I feel the anxiety begin to spread through my body. I have never been away from my parents for more than a couple days. How am I supposed to go nearly two weeks without them in another country? I greet my classmates, and we check in our luggage at the counter. The agent hands me three boarding passes one for each of the flights I will board today. When I check to make sure they are correct, it finally sinks in, ‘I am on my way to Costa Rica.’ As the final member of our group finishes with the agent, I hug my mother goodbye and step into line to go through security. It is time for me to be responsible for myself.
I am forced out of bed before the sun gets the chance by the high-pitched screaming of my alarm. Working against the clock, my brain fights the last-minute task of arranging all my clothes into a suitcase. The taxi ride to the airport is all but a tired blur. With a long hug and a bittersweet speech from my parents, I am off on my own to break new boundaries. The airport and I are no strangers.
It was 7:00 am on a summer morning and I was still in a daze after just being woken up. Today was to the day that I was going to see my sister and as soon as I made sure I had everything, I headed out. My sister lived far and instead of wasting gas to drive, I was going to fly. I was on my way to the airport with my mom and grandma and as we got closer, my heart began to race with fear and anticipation. It wasn’t because I was afraid of flying, because I actually loved it. I loved the way fields looked like worn quilts from so high above. However this time was different, because on this trip, my family would not be accompanying me and I would be flying alone.
As I walked quickly to the arrivals, my suitcase making skid marks on the terminal floor, I couldn't fathom the thought of waiting another second for this adventure. For what felt like hours of waiting, my aunt had finally picked me up. It was a three and a half hour drive to Mark Twain National Forest and I watched through the window as the sky changed into a colorful painting of pinks and blues. The fresh air of the Midwest ran through my veins and I felt like I was home again.
“I’m sorry you feel that way, Lucy. But your Mom and I already decided! We already bought plane tickets! I suggest you start packing.”
I woke up to the sound of clapping and cheering. I turned to see everyone on the plane clapping for reasons unknown. I quickly put my seatbelt back on, as I felt the plane starting to land. Finally, no more stale plane food, sleeping in uncomfortable positions and listening to other people snore.
“I don’t know, I’m excited but scared at the same time. What if I mess up?” I couldn’t mess up. It is the only thing keeping me tied to the ground, keeping me sane. Just take a deep breath and walk out… you’ve rehearsed thousands of times the only difference is that it will be just you and Rachel. You can do it. You are prepared.
It was a trip planned by my mom and my mom’s friend who lived in Texas. “The trip to Hawaii was going to be a blast!,” I thought. I never went to Hawaii, so it was going to be a new experience. I was also going to meet my mom’s friend’s daughter, Annabelle. Annabelle and I had been best friends when I lived in Texas; but after I moved to California, I didn’t get to see her. My mom and I took a flight from California while Annabelle and her mom took a flight from Texas so we could
The drive was roughly two hours, and then we finally arrived at the airport. I had been to that airport so many times, but never boarded a flight, so it was a strange feeling. It made the entire trip feel very sudden and real, and it made me excited. Going through security, thankfully, did not take as much time as we expected, and it wasn’t as complicated as I previously thought. We then waited patiently to board our plane. I was expecting to be tired because it was unusually late at night, but my nerves and the anticipation ensured I wouldn’t be sleeping for a while. At last, we boarded the plane. It took longer than I imagined for the plane to take off. The feeling close to weightlessness was worth it, in spite of that, and I was ecstatic about having the window seat and getting to look at everything
My family and I were so excited that we didn't even sleep the night before. We spent our Thursday night watching movies and talking about what are plans were for the trip. Once the clock hit 4 o'clock in the morning , we left our house and were on our way to the airport. The airport was quiet and peaceful. I could smell the freshly brewed coffee once I set foot in the airport. We checked in, then waited patiently for our flight to board. Suddenly we heard on the overhead speaker, “Flight to New York, New York is now boarding, Flight to New York, New York now boarding.” Once we boarded the plane, we settled in and got comfy. The flight was fairly smooth with little turbulence and the sweet sound of babies crying filled my ears. Once we heard the pilot's voice telling the crew to prepare for landing, my excitement grew big.
My grandpa told me to be safe and his mustache tickled as he kissed my cheek. I hugged and kissed my grandma then walked to the line. A sign and security employee directed me to place my backpack on a x-ray conveyor then walk through the gate. On the other side was my escort who would take me to the plane. She brought me to the plane and I boarded before the other passengers. I relaxed until the first passengers arrived. I quietly listened to their conversations and waited for the passengers who would sit next to me in the center isle. The doors were shut and still my row was empty except for me.
I woke up from my nap when I felt a light tap on my shoulder by my brother, Alex. He told me that it was time for the plane to begin its descent so I gathered my belongings and adjusted my seat until it was upright. As the airplane began to descend, I was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. I could feel so much energy rush through my veins as my ears popped and I finally heard the flight attendant say, “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Singapore Changi Airport!”
It was Tuesday, July 18th. I was a nervous wreck. In desperate need of clothes to wear to impress... her. I begged my best friend Todd to join me at Woodfeild mall. He gave in and we went. Todd and I shopped for hours. Nothing looked good enough for...her. We were running out of time. I made-do with four short sleeve shirts from Champs and two pairs of sweatpants shorts from h&m. The total came out seventy dollars. We walked out and got into Todds car. I was shaking the entire ride home. Will she like it? Am I going to look fat? What about my acne? What if she doesn’t end up liking me? Nothing else crossed my mind as we pulled up to my house and I was dropped off. There was around an hour and a half until I had to leave. I walked inside
